Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

Wray has named a top 3 of Colorado, Arizona and Nebraska in a Rivals article today at HuskersIllustrated. "With Colorado, they want to get me up there for a visit as soon as possible. I've talked to coach (Dan) Hawkins a few times and he's a really nice guy."

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

Wants to be a QB? What do you think Valdez, BB, and Buffnik? 3 star demanding to be a QB with his size, I just don't know. Looks more like a CB or WR but I know nothing about his skills or upside.

If you watch his videos, it looks like the 4.3 - 4.4 speed is legit. Kid's a burner. But he's also got a big arm. My concern at QB is that if he's listed at 5'11" on scouting services, that means he's probably 5'9" or 5'10" at the most. Definitely worth a shot because he's got everything but the height you'd look for. My feeling is to give him a legitimate shot at your most important position and if he doesn't make it he can happily move to a different spot and still be a playmaker for you. So, yeah, I'd recruit him as a QB.

His height and weight on Rivals is listed as verified. That said, even though it's still somewhat short I'd agree on giving him the opportunity to try out for QB. You never know, he could be the next Pat White.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

bounces around like a pin ball, very explosive, but has horrible footwork. i would still take him in a heartbeat.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

Whatever happened to picking an offense and sticking with it? I thought we were looking for pro-style QBs.

Florida State didn't do so badly when they plugged Charlie Ward into their offense. Same type of thing. I don't think anyone's saying to change the offense, just that if someone is a special athlete then it's a bonus.

East St. Louis quarterback can dominate by running or passing
By Jim Halley, USA TODAY

East St. Louis, Ill., quarterback Detchauz (pronounced Day-Chaws) Wray is an accurate dropback passer whom opposing defenses don't want to chase out of the pocket.

Wray, a 6-0, 180-pound senior, threw for 2,564 yards and 38 touchdowns with only five interceptions last season. But he also has 4.3 speed for the 40-yard dash and rushed for five touchdowns, helping his team finish 13-1 to win the Illinois 7A title. His potential colleges include Illinois, Nebraska, Arizona, Purdue, New Mexico, Colorado State and Kansas.

"He has exceptional accuracy," East St. Louis coach Darren Sunkett said. "He's one of the more accurate quarterbacks that I've coached for the past 14 years. Then you add that with his running ability, and he's just one of those special athletes."

East St. Louis 77, Alton 7 — Coming off back-to-back losses in Ohio, the second-ranked Flyers took out their frustrations on the visiting Redbirds, scoring 41 first-quarter points en route to a Southwestern Conference rout.

Courtney Molton (six carries, 192 yards), Herhsall Molton and Darius Stewart had two touchdowns apiece, while Detchauz Wray had a pair of touchdown passes.

Alton is 0-3 and 0-1.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

CU will be getting a visit per Scout.com.

It's going to be us or the corn. Doesn't sound like the Big 10 schools are as high on his list and he wants to leave the state.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

****, ****, ****, my ****ing ****!!!!

Adam at Rivals is reporting that Wray meant CSU when he said "Colorado" and won't be visiting CU.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

Supposedly, every single interview up to now when he said "Colorado" he meant Colorado State. Rivals (Adam) realized it when he was speaking to Wray today and Wray said he really likes Fairchild. Precipitated a "Huh?" moment and then it turns out that Wray is going to visit CSU in a couple weeks and isn't planning to visit CU.

Okay the kid is now dead to me

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

Update on Scout says we are in his top 3.

Detchauz Wray the 5-foot-11, 175-pound, three-star quarterback/wide receiver from East St. Louis Senior High School (Ill.), has narrowed it down to Nebraska, Colorado, and Arizona and plans on making a decision by the end of October.
He was supposed to visit CU early in Oct. but one of his games was rescheduled. Couldn't determine if he has scheduled for a visit or not.

And it clearly says BUFFS, not lambies.
Wray was supposed to visit the Buffs on Oct. 3 but had to cancel after one of his games was rescheduled for that date.

His team is ranked #10 top in country (preseason poll).
http://www.618football.com/Schools/IL/east-st-louis-flyers
East St. Louis won its first state Class 7A title in school history in 2008 with Wray at the helm as QB.

Won their last league game 62-18 Friday night, going on to playoffs, and Wray won't know his schedule week by week if they keep winning.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

probably picking AZ

except he says:
... the Buffs are recruiting him the hardest. “I think I could play early there,” he said. “I know they’ve struggled but that’s not the most important thing for me.”
Although he says that he’s narrowed it down to three schools, the Buffs and Huskers may have the inside track over Arizona for Wray’s services. “I don’t really know Arizona as well as the other two,” he said.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

well, OK, I stand corrected. Hmm, well I hope he picks us then.

Well, you could be right. He got CSU and CU mixed up earlier, said he would commit without taking visits, then scheduled some anyway, so who knows. I don't think his recruitment is over yet by a long ways.

But in a strange way, our difficult season seems to be drawing some players here who see it as an opportunity -- he may be one.

Re: '10 IL ATH Detchauz Wray

Wasn't he quoted as saying the reason he likes "Colorado" is because of his relationship with "Coach Fairchild." I think he is mixing up Colorado with Colorado State
