What has me jumping off the Hawk bandwagon

I really bought into the off-season hype this year. I was expecting nothing less than a thumping of CSU. We looked just like we did last year, which doesn't give me much hope for the remaining season. But I will keep watching and hope will pull off an upset here and there.

:sad1: What a disappointing loss.

I haven't jumped off yet, but I definitely moved a lot closer to the edge tonight. Looks like our "dominant" O-Line only looked dominant because they're practicing against our D-Line. :puke:

Soooo sick of ALWAYS looking like the less prepared team in this matchup, even the years we win. WTF are these coaches doing the entire ****ing month of August?!?!?!

So pumped that we have another game in 5 days, should be no problem getting ready, for this crack staff.

Last year? It reminded me more of Oh **** Six. As soon as they dumped that big pass on us I instantly thought to myself 2-10. let alone 10-2.

Our offense is the same discombobulated mess it was last year. Except that the blocking is slightly better. We remain incredibly thin at WR going all the way back to Barnett's last couple of years

If we see this same game plan week in and week out this year, I will admit defeat and think it's time for a change. I agree this didn't look like a team that was any better than what was on the field last year.

Simmons looked pretty good. I don't know if he had any drops but that one long one was nice.

So can you tell me what Pinkels records looked liked after Year 3 going into year 4? Would you agree that Pinkel is doing a good job at Missouri right now?

2001 Missouri 4-7 3-5 5th (North)

2002 Missouri 5-7 2-6 5th (North)

2003 Missouri 8-5 4-4 3rd (North) L Independence

2004 Missouri 5-6 3-5 2nd (North)

2005 Missouri 7-5 4-4 2nd (North) W Independence

2006 Missouri 8-5 4-4 2nd (North) L Sun

2007 Missouri 12-2 7-1 1st (North) W Cotton 5 4 2008 Missouri 10-4 5-3 1st (North) W Alamo Bowl 16 19

I don't like what I saw tonight just as much as the next guy. But Hawk brings somethings to the table that I do like. All this talk of firing him is complete overreaction. Who are you going to bring in who is better? Let's have a little perspective on this. He needs to do better I agree, but unless someone can tell me that Pete Caroll is ready to take over at CU, I am not willing to throw him to the wolves just yet.

What we need is someone who can recruit with the best of them. Someone who has some knowledge of the CU experience and history, NFL experience would be good, and has a variety of coaching experiences. Hmmm, what guy fits that mold best?

Pinkel was building some depth and talent through recruiting in Texas and his home state.. I'm not seeing that with Hawk..

I see talent on our team. I just hope maybe sometime soon the staff will get it clicking. Maybe the foot in the asses is what we needed................I know I know. Bs right?

We are still a very young team.. I know I've been critical of that comment/excuse but even I admit its an issue..

I'm upset and I'm critical of Hawk's coaching, but I'm not at the Vince Okruch he's gotta go moment for Hawk yet..

Plus Pinkel's trend was up except for the one hiccup year. And one example of it working when you stick with a guy who isn't winning doesn't mean that it's the smart thing to do. Most of the time, it's not.

Unfortunately, we don't have the type of AD whose belief in a coach inspires any confidence. Bohn is a very good marketing guy and he's done a great job with CUs finances. But he's not savvy when it comes to coaches. In his career as an athletic director, no coach he has ever hired has won more games than he/she's lost.

YOu don't see depth and talent being recruited on to this team? I would agree that our coaching is suspect right now, but the O-line and RB depth is much improved. CB depth is getting better.

Again. I am not defending the coaching decision and play of the team last night. They are awful and they need to be fixed. So lets all see how the season plays out and hope it does get fixed.

Hawkins has done some good things for this program and I think we are all to quick to remember. I for one, do not want a win at all cost coach who is willing to stretch the rules and not hold kids accountable just so we can win games. I want to see Hawkins succeed because I think he is attempting to do this the right way. However, intentions only take you so far and it is time he shows that CU is improving.

So how do we know last year wasn't a 1 year "hiccup". We are only 1 game into the season people. Yes the game sucked, now lets see where we go from here!

.

Its bits and pieces.. I don't see any dominant LB's, DL or WR on the team..

And as much as our OL depth has improved, our center goes down and a walk-on has to replace him..

We aren't there yet and Hawk has had some misses in his recruiting.

I have defended Hawkins and had hope for him rebuilding after the last debacle but this loss is the first time I am beginning to believe he is not the right guy. As a fan for 25 years, I can handle losing, but being unprepared (for the 2nd time in 3 years) for the opening game. Being outcoached and out prepared and having his team play with no energy or passion: that is all on the staff. Hawkins talks a great game and seems to care but the results do not match the rhetoric. In the Post today he is quoted as saying that the loss was 'not a big problem" and that they need to fix 'little things". That is a flat out delusional description of a team that got "whupped" up front, and deep and everywhere in between. A team that cannot even get plays in and called is one that needs a change at the top.

That is who he is. I am not going to get on him for his approach. What is the alternative. Bitch and moan and yell and throw **** and rant that the season is over and that all hope is lost, like 95% of this board. As of right now it is one game. It is something to definitely be concerned about, and there is clear room for improvement. Hawkins is a positive guy and approaches things that way. I am not going to fault him for that. I will fault him for not having this team in a position to beat CSU this year, and he needs to get it fixed. I don't care how he goes about doing it, I just want to see him fix it. If he does it while being the head chearleader, so be it. Let's just get it fixed.

Ordinarily I would agree with you.

But it wasn't just a matter of coming out a little flat, having the ball bounce the wrong way, and having a few plays not go our way. This organization is a complete train wreck.

What is Hawkins good at? Talking? Being really liberal in a really liberal town? (this is the only reason people like him)

- Not good at recruiting
- Not good at game-day coaching
- Not good at preparing his team
- Not good at making personnel decisions
- Not good at choosing assistants
- Not good at making adjustments

All the 5 year Pinkel and Mangino comparisons are a bunch of stupid b******* and there are 0 parallels. Why? CU DOES NOT HAVE CHASE DANIEL OR TODD REESING ON OUR ROSTER BECAUSE OUR COACH HASN'T BROUGHT ONE OF THESE TYPE OF QB'S IN.

Stop bringing this up. It isn't our situation and if you think it is you are delusional.

If you don't see parallel between the two, then there really is no hope and you have let your emotions blind you.

So can you tell me what Mac's record was at CU going into his 4th year? Care to tell me how that year started out? Somethings take time. Is Hawkins the right guy, I agree there are serious question marks right now. But there were just as many question marks about Mac and Pinkel 4 years into there program. This knee jerk reaction that we have around here after every loss is shameful to watch.

The hype and bravado hawk has spewed since coming here has been painful to listen to. His inept coaching and 13-25 record have been shameful to watch.

I want him to get this team back on track, we don't need another rebuilding stint with another head coach. But he has to do better than this. Either the talent we have solder, miller, scott etc... has been mistaken or our coaches are the problem,it needs fixed.

It wouldn't hurt for hawk to try and fire the team up on the sidelines would it? He just stands there by himself saying and doing nothing. Show some emotion, at least act like you give a damn. The players have a ho-hum attitude after the loss like they are used to losing. That's not good.

No argument on that front. He MUST get this act rolling. He MUST do better to keep his job. He MUST show he has what it takes to get us to the next level. All those things need to happen.

:dito::thumbsup: Those guys are better coaches than Hack. They were seeing some improvements and some semblance of a good base for future success. With Hack, we have some talent but he has no ideanwhat to do with them. He is so lost out there. No emotion, just isnt in the game at all. I think he's lost his will to win.

Come on Hawk! Stick it to them! Make a season of it! One game...Mac would laugh at your predicament!

Hop off the bandwagon, if you like. That's what you are, bandwagon fans. I'm gonna ride first class. Hope Hawkins is at the drivers seat. If he fails so be it. But I still want the Buffs to succeed this year.

Being critical doesn't mean you are off the bandwagon.

And people aren't openly rooting for CU to lose..

Hawk put up a stinker Sunday and he deserves the criticism he is getting.

The program is bigger than Hawk.. Always has been and always will be..
