they won't do it on a short week like now, in any case.

they are unlikely to do it at all until the end of the year, altho i think a strong case can be made for moving fast.

toledo is probably a job game. lose it and they could fire him and then there are a few extra days to get an interim hc in place and a few practices in.

i am done w/ this staff. i simply cannot foresee a legit scenario where they could turn it around this year.

and, yet, i expect we are going to have to sit thru a full season of crap before anything is done.

I think Hawk's time is up... but I have little faith that CU and Bohn will go out and pony up the cash to get a real coach in here.

they will give him the season... not sure if they should. Toledo is must win. He has to turn this around pronto.

I think it is comical how everyone is willing to just throw away the season after 1 loss. A bad loss with poor coaching, yes. But you don't throw an entire season out because of it. Any talk of replacing the head coach should be held until after the season. There is still ALOT of football to be played.

my reason for doing it fast, if we keep hawkins to end of year, recruiting is going to be a disaster. worse than anything we ever saw under barnett. if we fire him now, recruiting will probably still be terrible but maybe the new guy can salvage it a little and at least he'd be able to pick his own players

If they fire him now then they will make someone on the current staff the interim coach. That is why mid-season firing don't happen. You won't be able to bring in a coach from the outside mid-season. So if you fire him now you are just going to get more of the same with Helfrich or Collins running the show. Is that really what everyone wants. If you want a staff change fine. But it happens at the end of the season. You won't bring in a new staff mid-season. It just isn't reality.

it's not just one loss. it's a continuation of everything we've seen under hawkins. this team doesn't look any more disciplined, organized, or seem to have a plan any more than they did during the 2-10 season or during any of hawkins' other losing seasons he's had at cu. do you think of every single season in a vacuum?

You don't fire anyone after 1 game into a season. It's foolish. Period.

i would love to see cabral as interim coach. he'd probably fire collins on the spot, give hansen a chance at starting, and keep darrell scott from transferring by giving him more than one carry a game. we don't have to hire the new coach next week, but if we publicize that we are looking NOW it will give us a better chance of picking the right candidate

the guy has proven without a shadow of a doubt that he is a complete failure. he doesn't even do anything during games except ensure that his son remains starter and darrell scott doesn't get the ball. but if you think it's a better idea to let him continue to embarass cu every week, that's fine too.

:stupid:

Exactly. That's the thing, even if they fire Hawk, who are they going to get, at this point? And don't come at me with some bull**** pipe dream. I want to know who, for the kind of $$$$ CU is willing to shell out, are they going to get that's any better??? Not to mention, I'm not sure I want Bohn picking his replacement, anyway. If I were in charge and this did end up being another ****ty season I would clean house. Bohn, Hawk and Buzz....all gone.

And Bienemy? Seriously?? Yeah he can recruit and I'd love to have him back as an assistant, but as head coach????? WTF are you people smoking and where can I get some?

it is unlikely they'll pull trigger, but there are some guys out there who aren't currently working who could come in. and, even if not, cabral as interim hc would be unlikely to do as badly as the current crew.

recruiting is going to suck regardless.

i agree that the most likely scenario is they whack the staff at the end of fusker game. if they are able to move fast on a new hire, the new guys will still have 2 months to try to put a salvage class together.

this whole thing is sickening.

I think the idea of firing Hawkins during the season is ludicrous.

First, who would take over as head coach and why would the result be any different? Promote Cabral to Interim Head Coach and what changes? The offense still stinks. We've still got the same players. Keisau and most of the staff are loyal to Hawkins.

Second, firing a coach after just two games would be a terrible idea. Talk about a lame duck team. There are a lot of kids who have worked their butts off the past nine months who deserve the best chance to win every game they can this year.

I think the best plan is to wait until the season is over to make a coaching change. Bohn needs to communicate with whoever the hiring agencies are (Neinas, etc.) and tell them that he is going to make a change, as soon as he makes that decision - so they can start the leg work of identifying who is interested in the job. Then when the Nebraska game is over - if a change is going to be made - it can be made swiftly, and Bohn already has a leg up on potential hires.

Get a new head coach in place immediately following the big conference championship games - by December 7 or so. Make sure you hire someone who has a staff picked -- coaches who are ready to come into Boulder and start recruiting asap. That would give the new head coach two full months to hit the ground in recruiting.

Fire him the day after the NU vs CU game

Why would we do that. He wins that game and takes this team to bowl game. Then all these asshats will saying how he turned the season around and has us headed in the right direction.

I love fan overreaction.

:yeahthat:

I'm also biased in waiting to fire when you know it needs to be done.

I'll use UW as an example here. Coach is fired, kept on for the season, team quits and goes winless for the first season ever in over 100 years of football. The players knew Ty was a lame duck, they knew he couldn't coach, and many, many players thought about leaving the program due to lack of confidence in the coaches. It was an utter freaking disaster.

I really don't want to see CU have a disaster season this year. We have talent, just not good coaching. I think the players lost a lot of respect for the coaches yesterday, and it's not a stretch to think 'Hawk may be losing them...

'Hawk should be fired in the team locker room at Toledo if CU doesn't win.

coach ken! or just any coach that can maintain discipline, teach solid fundamentals, and dedicated to running the ball. we don't need a 5 star coach, just one that meets those three standards

Stop being rational. There is no place for that on AllBuffs.

exactly. it happened to washington, making them the national embarassment of the season. it happened in patton's last year in basketball, making us the embarassment of the basketball season. i don't want us to be a national embarassment again. most fans have lost faith in the coaching staff after yesterday's game. is it that big of a stretch to think a lot of players did too?

it may be too late for that. what do you think wvu, texas, osu, mizzery, etc. are going to do to this team?

the odds are overwhelming they will wait until the end of the year to do it, but that doesn't mean we have to like it.

i will note again, however, that Mac started 0-4 in 86, including a loss to the sheep, and then they went on to beat the fuskers and go to a bowl. it was the beginning of a turn-around. this doesn't quite feel the same, though. they'll give these guys the year to try to show something, no matter how much i bitch about it.

I agree partly. Liver is in moving quickly from denial to anger. :smile2:

It's better to lose early and all may not be lost. But Im with Liver in so much that these guys have been here 4 years and done zip so far and the offense looked poorly organized and poorly coached. Its no one thing to come in prepared and lose on talent and strength. Its another to just be a mess.

Two things.

When Mac did he had a lot of rope because their was not much tradition or expectations behind him.

We have yet to see a coherent, tangible scheme on offense.

What do you do if the team quits on the coach? Just keep him around? If he loses this team I think you have no choice but to fire him. And if we have these questions don't you think the players are asking the same questions?

I think he should be fired on the spot if he loses to Toledo. Brian Cabral can take over until they find a new coach, the other coaches can also stay until the new HC replaces them. Cabral will ofcourse stay dont know who else.

If he wins and at least goes 2-2 in OOC maybe he allowed to stay until the end of the season, although that will hurt recruiting. If he gets fired right away and Tuberville or the like comes in and tries to salvage the season w/ at least 6 wins, and tireless recruiting then we may be better off.

The only scenario that I could see happening would be that Bruce Benson steps in and gets rid of both Bohn and Hawkins. That ain't going to happen guys. We are stuck with "The Hawk" until he either falls off Machu Pichu, gets eaten by a shark, or his chute fails to open. Shoot!

I actually laughed out loud imagining this.. I don't really wish him ill but I do wish Hawk would take a job with the oakland raiders or something. Post Haste.

I think we're talking about saving the season and the 2010 recruiting class, Chilly.

You guys really think this team is going to beat Nebraska?

Why?

I don't think they will but they certainly can. Let's get real for a second: nebraska isn't nearly as good as they think they are. They'll win games (thanks sun belt teams) and beat the bad teams but they'd get hosed by Texas just like any other north team. Their fans know it too. They're in here gloating over how bad we are but all the schadenfreud in the world isn't going to help them become elite again. They are what we've always thought they were. A good program with elite facilities and a proud history but in a miserable barren wasteland of a state. If you're a recruit do you choose a school like Florida or neb? Queue fusker response: "b..but. in the 90's we got the top talent with no problem". So did we. So did Kansas State. Times are just different now. Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Mack Brown and a few other have just about locked down their pipelines and schools in the flyover states have to fight over whatever's left. Scheduling 4 creampuffs at home and having 8 home games a year will get crazy bo and company to 9-10 wins most seasons but to what end?

well lets see...Dan Hawkins record at CU is 13 - 25 with 4 road wins (2 at Invesco field) 9 home wins and 2 loses CSU, 1 lose Montana State............
