CU is a boring team

I've looked at a lot of internet sites and the more casual fans, or fans of other programs, are posting that the big problem is Hawkins playing his son at QB.

But for the longtime fan, the most discouraging thing about last night's game has to be that there were SO MANY problem areas.

1) The o-line was really seriously outplayed. CU will not win one game with that type of game out of the o-line. They will lose at Toledo, to K-State and Iowa State with an o-line that plays like it did against that CSU defense.

2) The vaunted DBs were beat badly on numerous deep balls. CU knew going in that the Rams' strength was its WRs, NOT it's running game. But the CBs seemed to be caught flat-footed, looking for a run on the deep completions. What are the coaches telling these guys?

3) Colorado had no pass rush in the first half. That allowed Stucker, a fifth-year rookie, all sorts of time. He got some confidence, and that was that. There was no blitz scheme that worked. Again, what are the coaches doing to create a pass rush?

4) Clock management was foolish. Why does it take so long to get plays in, especially when you're trailing by two touchdowns? Why does the QB have to run to the sidelines to get a play, then run back to the huddle? Is it just me or is CU the only DI program to have to do this? I can understand if you've got a new QB, or a new coaching staff or something -- you're trying to get on the same page as far as logisitics or something. But in terms of game management, the offense looked like a new staff in Game 1.

5) So much substitution. Every frickin' offensive play, there are two or three guys coming in and out. Let the skill players get a rhythm. Don't make them think so dang much about whether they're in or out on every single play. Have the cajones to name a first teamer, and stick with him for a quarter at running back and WR. OR, if you're going to substitute every play, use the subs to run in the play so you don't have your QB running to the sidelines to get the call between downs.

6) Why do you run your slowest tailback to the outside on a crucial 4th and 1? I know I'm not a coach. I know I'm just your average scum-of-the-earth internet poster. But c'mon.

I think the worst thing, as a longtime fan, is that this team is just plain BORING. I can't put my finger on why. But I get bored quickly watching the Buffs -- a team I've watched and rooted for for 35 years. It happened last year, and it started again by the end of the second quarter yesterday.

Anyone else bored with this program?

Not bored, frustrated, tired of the big talk from Hawk and the excuses, btu can't back it up. This is year #4, rediculous, just rediculous!

The QB is not the issue. Sure, Cody isn't the prettiest most athletic guy out there. Sam Bradford didn't look like a Heisman winner Saturday either behind a porous front.

29 yards rushing?
Confusion vs. the pass rush?
Tight Ends and RB's along with O-Line did not protect.

Until that's fixed, the only question about QB play, is who will look the least awful.

That was a poor showing, but don't put it on the QB. He's limited in what he can do, but we all know that with NO running game and no protection, it doesn't matter.

Cody is not the guy. He is not very good. Good QB play makes a hell of a difference.

:yeahthat:

Hansen would have gotten more rushing yards, and might have gotten us some more first downs, but faced that rush, he would also have thrown more picks. hell Cody's only pick was on a drop by Mcknight.

The OL has to be better. So much hype and this is what they produce? I'd feel better if they were mad as hell about their performance but reading miller's quotes you'd think everything is fine

Guys, it's just the little things. A lot of little things. Got to fix the little things.

Oh, wait, that was 2006. And 2007. And last year. And Sunday.

At some point, if you really believe it's the little things, you've (coaches) got to own up to the fact that the teams you're playing have them fixed, and Colorado doesn't. That's on the coaches. Every time.

If you (coaches) really believe it's the little things, you've got to own up to the fact that your failure to get them fixed has led to a BIG PROBLEM. The Buffs are on their way to another sub-500 season in year four of the current regime.

But these 2 go hand-in-hand. Not to say that the CU secondary is all-world, but lack of a pass rush will make any secondary look bad.

And Cody should have been pulled in favor of Hansen, if nothing else to provide a spark. Not to defend Cody, but the OL problem is a bigger problem with this offense than the QB play.

Is it just me or does Cody attempt at least 90% of his passes in the 5 yards or less range? And to compound the issue they're always to players staring right back at him so they can't get any YAC.

4) Clock management was foolish. Why does it take so long to get plays in, especially when you're trailing by two touchdowns?
Excutiatingly painful ... watching them use the entire play clock and getting flagged for too much time - while fighting to come back late in the 4th quarter - was excrutiatingly painful. That clock mismanagement is the #1 most undeniable, inexcusable failure of the coaching staff. Absent some news that the headsets were malfunctioning, that failure is all on Hawkins' doorstep, nobody else to blame.

For whatever it's worth, Lapham was all over this stuff. AND he suggested no-huddle (shortly after i did), AND he suggested subbing for Cody.

Lapham was ALL OVER all of these points.

PLUS, they left all 3 TOs on the board in the first half! The Rams were rolling all over us, we should've stopped the clock a couple times to regroup.

1) They should've punted - they had momentum for the first time in tha game, and the defense was stoked. Pin 'em at the 10 and let the D ppin its ears back.
2) If you're gonna go on 4th there, sneak behind your best lineman. That slow developing sweep - behind Nate Solder who getting destroyed all day - is nothing less than stupidity.

The play call and failing to use a TO before the play - both signs of rank stupidity.

And Sumler, wtf?! Sumler must have pictures of Hawk, that's the only answer.
