Does Anybody Actually Believe Bohn Would Fire Hawkins ?

How much money (that the university does not have) would it cost to buy him out?

What are the risks that many of the players would leave ? Hawk guys like Kasa, Miller ....

CU won't fire him mid-season unless they are 0-5 ...0-6

Unfortunately, I think we're stuck with Hawkins until the end of this season, and probably next unless CU looks down the barrel of 1 or 2 wins.

It's going to take campaigning from the alumni to the school and booster to make something happen.

Edit:

Seeing Valdez's smilely face up there may change my opinion knowing how well he knows the pulse of the program...

I don't know about that. If he goes 0-5 he'll have to be replaced.

I remember the same converation after NU drilled us 30-3, then the UT massacre. We did not think Bohn would fire Barney either. If the misery from last night continues, there will be enough outcry that Bohn will have no other choice.

I think Hawkins would resign before he got fired. But I think if we were looking down the barrel of a winless season, Bohn would be forced to fire him.

JMHO of course.

Another losing season and I think Bohn absolutely fires Hawkins at the end of the season.

I can't believe CU will go winless through the entire pre-season. Surely they will beat Wyoming. But I guess if the Buffs went 0-6 or something - including a blowout loss to UT - it's possible they could make a coaching change midseason. I seriously doubt it though.

Very mininal. It is only one game.

After a season of this though, with 2-4 wins reasonably expected after last nights performance, with the "star" players riding the pine the whole game... No one's going to leave after one game, but I think over the course of the season, you run a greater risk of losing players by keeping him in place than replacing him.

Good idea.....Bohn needs to run the numbers to determine what makes sense. Is $3M the buyout number? I will run the financial analysis for Mike....:smile2:

I remember there used to be a website that actually had every college football coach's contract.

Since Dan Hawkins is a state employee - his contract is a public record and anyone can obtain a copy of it.

Does anybody remember what that website was where we could look at contracts?

I don't think Hawk is close to being fired, save for an 0-12 or 1-11 season and losing by 40 pts per game.. If he was under tremendous heat, he wouldn't be redshirting Hansen..

Its nice to talk about future coaches and speculate but I believe its a moot point. Hawk will be here next year baring a total collapse (like what Barnett had 30-3, 70-3)..

Now if we end up 4-8 and 5-7, obviously he will be on a very hot seat going into next year and Bohn will be forced to cut the cord if we have another losing season.

Hawk's contract and buyout is here:

http://coacheshotseat.com/DanHawkins.htm
I think that was the original contract. Dan signed an extension and I think they changed the terms of a buyout.

The contract also includes a buyout clause that would cost Hawkins $1 million "if terminated between July 1, 2008, and the day after the final game of the 2009 football season, including any bowl game . . . "
Hawkins' buyout would be reduced to $500,000 if he wants to leave after the 2009 season through Aug. 30, 2012.

If the new contract is anything like the old contract, then I need to revise my previous statements. I don't think there is any way Hawkins is gone, regardless of his W/L record this year.

According to the original contract, Paragraph 9(b) if HAWKINS decides to terminate the contract (i.e. Hawkins can BUY HIMSELF OUT) he has to pay CU $500,000 if he terminates the contract during either 2009 or 2010.

According to the Paragraph 12, part (a) of the original contract, if CU terminated Hawkins prior to the expiration of the contract, for any reason other than cause - CU is on the hook for $850k per contract year for each contract year remaining on the contract.

If those terms remain in the new contract then CU would presumably be on the hook for $2.5mil.
