Pissbomber, when you went to the scrimmage.....

you were very upbeat. I am interested in hearing your thoughts concerning what you saw during the scrimmage vs the actual game. Why did everything fall apart from the scrim to the game? Or was it that we were practicing ourselves and we looked good because we suck so badly.

thanks for the insight. They better come out with their hair on fire Friday. The more I hear about Hawk, the less I respect the man. I always thought he was such a good character guy. BS, I am not sure he can be trusted when the chips are down. Seems like people are on to him. I am sure that this is a situation he's not found himself in before, as it seems he's most of the time been successful in his endeavors.

. AND HAWK KNOWS IT AND HAS SAID AS MUCH.

So he can continue to run .350 and there's no way to put pressure onhim? If that is the case Bohn was pretty foolish to give him that kind of leverage given his performance or lack thereof...

A. We were playing our 1s versus the scout team. Seeing as how bad we got beat up by CSUs 1s, our scout team must really be bad.

B. We deferred the coin toss and gave up 7 pts in 4 minutes...went 3 and out and then got scored on again. Seems to me that we lost our collective heads.

C. Lastly, much of what was run at the scrimmage was in the gameplan, but the score etc dictated that we throw it 40 times. Also, the line was getting pushed around pretty good so some of the running stuff we wanted to do looked like it may not work.

I think if you have read any of my other posts on other threads that I am very disappointed to be sure. I am not an excuse guy anyways but there are no more excuses that the staff can use. We have more athletes then CSU for sure...and yet if you didnt know you would have thought we were the MWC team...not CSU.

I hope that helps.

BTW...Take this for what it is worth but, Hawkins is not going anywhere soon. It would take a meltdown of massive perportions. We cant afford to pay him $3mill and pay another coach at the same time. AND HAWK KNOWS IT AND HAS SAID AS MUCH.

where did you come up with this 3million number you are running all over the board? A 2 second google search revealed the buyout to be:

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/oct/07/CU-buffs-hawkins-gets-contract-extension/

The contract also includes a buyout clause that would cost Hawkins $1 million "if terminated between July 1, 2008, and the day after the final game of the 2009 football season, including any bowl game . . . "
Hawkins' buyout would be reduced to $500,000 if he wants to leave after the 2009 season through Aug. 30, 2012.

That's if Hawkins leaves before his contract is up. We still don't know what the buyout is if he gets fired prior to the expiration of the contract.

I'm not sure, but I believe there is a distinction between Hawk buying out the contract to go elsewhere, and CU showing him the door early. The quote you have is for the former, not the latter.

The part where it says, "if terminated" leads me to disagree with y'all.

As I read that, in section 12, if the University terminates without cause, Hawkins is entitled to $850,000 for every year remaining on his contract, which, according to that, expires in December 2010.

But that doesn't have the extension, so I guess it is outdated, sorry for the confusion.

That contract would be superseded by the terms of the extension, so reading it does you no good. Also Coaches hot seat appears not to have been updated since prior to the 2008 season, the extension was announced on 10/6/2008. We need a copy of the extension to settle this discussion, as he is a state employee isnt it public info?

I was wondering about that myself. It would be interesting to know what the extension says about his termination clause. At the very least, it would appear that the minimum amount due to him would be $850K.

we could chunk 850K or better 500K if indeed it dropped to that post bowl game, 3 million seems to be a fabrication though, also one other thing to note, is that the original linked above says "termination without cause" I would imagine that language appears in most coaching contracts, but I'd also think not winning any games would be "cause."

To you and me, perhaps. But there's nothing in the contract that says anything about winning. If he's terminated for cause, it's because he's breaching the terms of his contract. Look at his responsibilities. There's lots of stuff there about making appearances, teaching the fundamentals of football, etc. Nothing about losing to CSU.

So getting our arse kicked by CSU means he is not a good character guy. Come on people. I understand why you guys are pissed. I don't blame you, but Hawkins is a good character guy regardless of the win loss record.

Yes.
And we (okay, I'll speak for myself) .. I .. appreciate that he has worked pretty hard to change the perception of the University and athletics after a very damaging time. Things like holding out Marques Simas are REALLY hard to swallow, but it is a character lesson to MS and the entire team.

If I can make a small request, can we kick the crap out of Toledo this Friday?
Thanks, much obliged.

AJ... I agree with you on each and every point in this post.

Here's what I'm thinking...

We beat Toledo like we beat Miami last year.
We beat Wyoming like we beat Miami last year.

Then the season becomes meaningful again. Bring on WVU, please.

Since he pretty much let the cat out of the bag...

Pissbomber PM'd me after the scrimmage thread and asked me to be the keeper of his observations until after the game. I thought I might keep them under wraps until after Toledo so we'd have more than 1 game to go on (and in case there was a surprise we were holding back for the Rockets).

Anyhow, here goes (I've put PissBomber's stuff in blue):

Here is what I believe:

Offense>

Hawkins is the QB. (Barring injury)
We will throw it as much as last year, but will run more power running then that shotgun crap.
Simmons is legit...looks like an NFL WR.
Oline is better, but needs more time to gel
Lockridge will line up in different spots
RBs will sort out and Scott will get more carries in the end the rest
Defense>

Worst DLine we have ever had.
LBs will make up for the weakness on DLine
Beatty is the best player on the defense and will take Brad Jones job as rush end on passing downs.
DBs are the best in the big12.

Special Teasm

DiLallo P, Goodman FG, Davis KO.

I went in to the day thinking 7-5...I left tonight thinking 8-4 or even 9-3. Very injury dependent.

It was tough to get too much tonight...it was 1s and 2s vs. scout team all night. Played like a game. Offense scored 8 times about 50 pts...defense gave up 3 scores 13 pts.

One more thing to add to my list....
Watch for some "wishbone" type formations...

1 FB and 2 RB at the same time.

Forgot about that.

My take is that if we had stuck to the gameplan then PissBomber would have been pretty spot on. Like most of us, he underestimated how badly the defensive line would hurt us and how out of sync the offensive line would be. The defense did eventually come around and find ways to make up for the defensive line getting no push and having trouble shedding blocks. The offensive line never got an opportunity to respond to getting punched in the mouth early by getting to punch back. Instead the "pound the ball with Scott" gameplan was abandoned and they were pass protecting the rest of the night with no time at the line of scrimmage to figure out their protections & assignments.

Buffnik, that's interesting. I remember bomber saying, "don't believe everything you read." I now realize he was referring to his post and not other sources.

As you said, pretty spot on.

thanks
