Cody is our starter

the guy had a good season in 07 because the fans had his back! now he gets booo'd by the crowd when a receiver drops one of his passes . Home games for him are know different than an away game now, and thats Bull ****!!!! support the kid chant his name during the game, the kid is a leader he will feed off of the crowd. he wants to win and can win he's showed us that before (OU in 07) if he plays well you know the rest of the team will... just saying putting him down during the game does not help the team, im sure it helps the other team tho...

okay i need a another drink.... go buffs.

Cody seems very jumpy back there. Which really worries me. The kid is a RS JR. I think good coaching would've solved this issue with him. Especially with all the experience under his belt.

I thought last season was a sophomore slump. But it looks like it might've been more than that.

The Oline thing is just another reason why Hanson should be in there. Cody scrambles about as well as Estelle Getty. With Hanson in there, he can look at his first WR, maybe his second, and then run for it. Cody looks at his first guy and then throws it off his back foot while getting whacked. To top it off, the pass gets tipped half the time unless he throws it up for grabs.

In all seriousness, Cody would be more than adequate if he had a pocket like CSU gave Stucker on Sunday night (and a few other things). That's what makes him a great QB camp and practice player.

The "few other things":
He also needs to get the play in quickly so he and the rest of the offense have plenty of time to make pre-snap reads. He also needs wide receivers that can keep a defense honest and also make jump ball catches when he forces a ball into traffic with his water pistol arm. He also needs an effective running game to keep the linebackers and safeties honest.

But I do believe a Big 12 offense could be successful with Cody at the helm. They just have to be excellent at everything else they do.

Surely you are not serious...

I'd give Estelle the edge here...

I wonder if fairchild could coach him up?

Only if Fairchild can coach height....

I had no idea the teams' success was dependent on whether the fans "have their back." Learn something new every day.

Well, the problem with booing Cody and chanting Tyler Hansen, is that if Tyler comes into the game and struggles.. what then? Do the fans start booing Tyler? Do we start chanting Seth Lobato or Clark Evans?

My point being, Cody's play is far from the only issue on this team.

Funny how our coaches are suddenly saying Tyler is redshirting no matter what. It's almost as if they are hoping that by announcing his intention to redshirt, they'll get the fans to stop booing Cody. Do they honestly want us to believe that if Cody gets banged up again, that Seth Lobato will be running onto the field?

He is a guy who needs a little time. And got little from the 'new and improved' CU oline. Not a blue chip guy, but we knew that. If his WRs would catch the damn ball he would have looked alot better. Scotty dropped far more than usual on Sunday. Simas would have helped. CU actually running downhill would help Cody ALOT!!!! Back the opposing team off of the line of scrimmage some.

i'd be jumpy too with his o-line and no support....

Exactly. The coaches don't think Tyler is a huge improvement over Cody, so they are trying to redshirt him so they have him for two whole years after Cody leaves. I say play him so the next blue chip QB we have a chance at does not go 'well, they will stay with Tyler no matter what, so I better go elsewhere'. We need a Mark Sanchez type guy who knows he can come in and start right away, or at least redshirt a year and then be a four year starter. We can offer that to someone!!! (at least, after next year.:sad2:)

In 07, after B jack and 2-10, we were happy to see anyone with QB skill, but by mid season it was apparent that Cody struggled to throw the ball past ten yards effectively. Many people in my section 118 were questioning why Matt Ballenger or Nick Nelson were not getting a chance. So from my perspective Cody has been a question his whole career.
O-line play was not good but Cody struggled to make the right throw even when he had the time.
I believe in supporting the team, but we have had arguably the worst 4 year span of QB play in the B12. I think fans have reason to be frustrated.

I never boo Cody, I boo the play calling... Which would make Lee Corso say "Not so predictable my friend..."

that's what i've been f-in saying!! Hansen provides the best option everytime the pocket collapses!

What sucks for us though, is that even though two guys on an internet message board can see it, the guy who gets paid millions is blind to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but everyone I've heard from that saw practices and/or scrimmages this fall said that Hanson looked pretty terrible. He didn't look very good last year either. So why is everyone convinced he's the best option?

Because we have seen Cody struggle for 2 years, and know he will not get us were we want to be. Hansen is the next in line, and we want to see an attempt at making the team better.

Are the two of you, truly happy, to play the year out with Cody? If you had to rank Cody compared to all the other Big 12 QB’s where would you rank him? We are starting the third year of Cody as starter, has the Coaching staff done everything they could do to improve that position?

My question wasn't whether we're happy with the way Cody has played. We're clearly not -- though to varying degrees. My question is why everyone is so set that Hanson has to be the starter when all the evidence we've seen is that he isn't even as good as the player whose performance we aren't happy with?

I'm not trying to say that where we are at the QB position is just the way it is and Hawk and the other coaches don't have blame to face for that. But, going with what appears to be a worse option doesn't make sense. If Hanson is really an inferior option to Cody (which is what I've heard, maybe not accurate -- that's another debate), where are we if we try him out and have even worse results. Then you've undermined Cody, you've undermined Tyler, you've basically said that we have no direction. I just don't see how putting in Hanson for the sake of putting him in makes sense. He needs to be a clearly better option, IMO.

We have been told that Cody was better than Ballanger, Nelson and Hanson, but none of them has been given near the opertunity that Cody has. seems strange to me.
