Hansen vs Evans?

DeNiro

My Dixie Wrecked
What exactly did we see from Hansen last year to tell us he would be a lot better than Cody / win more games? I know he can run and make things happen, but does he really throw the ball a lot better than Cody? First half of the spring game very erratic, and in some practice he was very erratic with his throws.

Lets look at Tyler's stats from the games he did play...

I know true freshman lots of pressure, not as much talent around him, injured O-line...but how much of a step up is he?

Now to my point:
Clark Evans is the future and will be the starter next year, even though Cody will be a Senior... Clark will get a shot to play this year and wow us on some plays, yes he will make lots of freshman mistakes too... but this is my called shot! I know Laboto (sp?) is ahead of him right now in the coach's eyes, but hell Espy is ahead of Simmons in the coach's eyes.

No Evans won't play this year barring some disaster. Evans is also higher then Lobato on the depth chart I believe

Let's give Tyler a ****ing break. The guy showed some ability, but he also had his RS burned 1/2 way through the season, and was tossed right into the fire with no OLine.

I would like to see what he can do now that he has had time to adjust to the speed and to the playbook.

Evans is not going to play this year. He is not a good passer, and he needs some work to improve that area of his game. He probably won't play next year either.

I have seen nothing from Evans that makes me write him in as a starter next year. Hopefully he will develop this year and make a real charge, but it is going to take a lot of work on his part.

I also believe that if the QB race was as close as it was let on to be that we might be seeing TH playing right now. At this point, I have to believe that it was not that close.

JMHO FWIW...

Fans like to speculate that some guy down the depth chart is the answer to their team's prayers.

I'm no different. Nick Hirschman starts next year. Book it.

That was what I was thinking too... I just want some hope for the future... I think Cody can manage the offense to be a good team, but not an elite offense, and with that I think our ceiling is just barely making it to the Big XII title game (talking about next year). Looking at it from the point of next year how vetern the team will be and a lot of the talent (I know we all here about that), that we will have (hopefully).

I have no doubt that with experience the core of this team is going to produce some exciting seasons to come. I have to admit that I expect that our current team will be a MUCH improved team as the season goes on...hopefully they can jump out ahead of our competition at some point vs. being just good enough to deliver a bunch of close losses. (I have faith!)

I do hope that our play at quarterback no matter who it is can be a compliment to this core team as it develops.

:yeahthat:

I pointed this out last year. I'm also on record saying if this is true that I will have lost faith in the coaching staff's ability to evaluate and/or develop QB talent. Evans is the 5th scholarship QB brought in by this staff, if my count is accurate. If there's not one good QB in the bunch, we're done.

they HAD wynn... and he almost ended up starting for UT...

I may be off (brain getting old) but wasn't Wynn a Barnett recruit? I am thinking of Cody, Ballenger, Nelson, Hansen and Evans as the QBs recruited by Hawkins and staff. I'm just trying to judge Hawkins on the people he has brought in.

Someone actually believes Cody is going to get beat out next year?

We've seen the Cody act and it isn't getting us to a NC no matter how much he knows about the offense.

Give Hansen the chance and if he doesn't produce, keep moving down the line. If Evans can do it so be it.

What do we have to lose?

Lack of a consistent system and plan is stunting development, so is forcing a system on your talent instead of playing to you teams strength. Those to me are the root of the issues with these QB's.

What on earth make anyone believe daddy will let anyone else have a fair shot at starting? I know, it must be the equal opportunity that Nelson, Ballenger, and Hansen have gotten to date. Cody has struggled for multiple games in a row and no other QB has even been given more than a half a game to prove themselves. (if that much)

Tyler should be given an opportunity and Evans should be being coached up to start if needed this year. If Tyler doesn’t cut it, then Evans has a few games under his belt and is better prepared for next year.
If Cody was not the coach’s son would he still be QB? Cody was statistically the worst QB in the Big 12 in 2008 and the third worst in 2007. Just look at Matt’s stats from last year, who was better. Tyler was a run first game plan, so he mainly was throwing in long yardage situations. That is into the teeth of the defense, so his numbers are naturally bad. If you look at the stats between Cody and Tyler game for game, as a true freshman Hansen out played Cody in two of the games.
