Who's our next coach

Although we finally scored. I am more interested to see who everyone thinks our next coach should be. If our team is as bad as most of us think, there should be no other choice but to fire Hawkins.

The only name I've heard is Bienemy but I have to think working with Adrian Peterson would be better than trying to rebuild this mess.

EB is my fav... If not as HC then, OC for sure. He needs to be on the staff! I know most don't think he has enough experience but maybe that is the problem. We don't need a coach that has some elaborate "daddy day-care" system that only a few people can figure out. Football is a simple game.

I dont think we should hire a permanent coach mid season. Of all the coaches on the staff, Cabral has earned it. He should be interim coach the rest of the way. At the end of the season we should have a search committee set up with the most hardcore/loyal Colorado boosters, alumni and football experts. This decision needs to be taken out of the hands of Bohn.

I don't think it would be as big of a mess to fix as when Barney got fired. The talent is there in areas, these coaches just don't know how to use it. Get a good coach and you're looking like a Nebraska with Pelini type turnaround.

Talent... yeah but why do the announcers keep talking about how slow we look. We've all noticed that too. They've looked far slower than their first two opponents. What's it going to look like against the elite conference teams?

I don't see the "talent" you describe....

I agree. The only player I see who truly is "talented" is Scott. The rest of the team has potential but if there is so much talent we wouldn't be so bad. Coaching obviously has a lot to do with this, but our players look slow, disinterested and that's not ALL coaching.

People talk a lot about this 'talent' we supposedly have but there's no evidence to support it. Simmons, Simas, and Clemons have like 5 combined catches between them. Until we see evidence to the contrary this team has zero talent.

I liked that Heater guy valdez brought up last week. I also personally would love to see what Bud Foster could do. He's from across the country though, not sure that'd be a great fit. Maybe go with some young offensive or defensive coordinator and hope he can hire somebody not named Ron Collins as DC or some experimental OC from NFL Europe.

Very much agreed!

My "shopping list" after the season is officially over:

Brian Kelly, Cincinnati
Gary Patterson, TCU
Skip Holtz, East Carolina
Turner Gill, Buffalo (with another improved season)
Kevin Wilson, Oklahoma OC
Chuck Martin, Grand Valley State (say what you will but he will be a big-time coach for someone soon)

In my opinion we should stay away from the "flashy" hype guys and get a brass-tacks "X's and O's" coach that can get the most out of his players and actually get the guys he recruits onto the field and performing.

Good list, IMHO. I dont like Kevin Wilson though. doesnt excite people, not sure about his recruiting long term when not at OU, and honestly, he just strikes me as a complete D-bag. Maybe its because I live here and hate him. I like the rest of the list, though:thumbsup:

The calls for Chuck Heater are pointless, IMO.

Sure he is a GREAT recruiter, but it's not like Hawk hasn't had decent recruits.

In TWENTY years of coaching, Heater has held the titles of (sometimes in conjunction):
Secondary Coach (8 seasons)
Tight Ends Coach (6 seasons)
Cornerback Coach (7 seasons)
Safety Coach (2 seasons/current)
Running Backs coach (2 seasons)
Recruiting Coordinator (11 seasons)

He isn't a "coach", he is a recruiter.

While it would be great to have someone like that at CU, there is no way we can afford to pay him even half of what Florida is paying him to do anything but be a head coach.

We need a true football coach.

Under Barnett we had a guy who seemed like he intentionally tried to get less talented guys just because he knew he could coach them up. While this was somewhat successful he could never get over the hump and into the top national rankings because the talent wasn't there.

Now with Hawkins we have a guy winning some recruiting battles at skill positions that we haven't had in a long-time, but not coaching up the players and not even getting them on the field.

We need a ball coach that knows how to motivate players and implement a system that competes on the field, alongside a solid recruiting staff that brings in the talent to maximize what the coach is doing.

The budget for assistant coaches' contracts is a joke and needs to be fixed to give us a chance.

Honestly I'd just like someone that has a few qualities to them.

Tough.
Can recruit California or Texas really well.
Has a system that is actually a system.
Can hire good assistant coaches that have EXPERIENCE.
Won't be a PR mess like Barnett ended up being.
Preferably semi-young.
Isn't about to talk up a huge 10 win season only to get ran over by in state rivals and MAC teams.

That's all I ask.

The OU fans I know drink Kool Aid like it's a diuretic but even they have cautioned me about Venables. Patterson's a KjSU guy so that automatically disqualifies him and Norm Chow's one of those guys who's just too successful at being a coordinator, which makes me fear the Charlie Weis effect should he get a HC job. We need someone who can build toughness in this team but be approachable enough as the face of the program to aid recruiting.

I happen to like Charlie Strong and think he would help us recruit the SEC territory for speed on defense. I'd leave it up to hiring good assistants for help recruiting in California and Texas. Strong as head coach with Bienemy and Cabral as his coordinators doesn't sound like a bad start to me. At least from where we are now.

I randomly came across this list, it's a couple of years old.

Not sure what to think of Venables, their defense wasn't too hot last year, but it was only one year. Not quite in love with him learning how to big game plan from Stoops. I wouldn't hate this hire.

I personally love Foster, but I'm not sure he'd be a good fit and he's probably just waiting for Beamer to retire.

I'm really starting to like to idea of Walker, a strong recruiter and can get the most out of his players. Not sure I'll put too much stock into how well he does in New Mexico this year.

Ron English also interests me on that list, not sure where he is.

Charlie Strong is interesting, the gators always play great D.

Kevin Wilson, not sure what his deal is, but that OU offense sure is fun to watch.

I always thought Jon Embree was a great coach, but I'm not sure Bohn would go down that road with him again after passing him over for Hawk.

On another note I was just reading Hankowitz' bio, why Hawk would want to let that guy go in favor of Collins is beyond me. That guy lived to shut down offenses, we sure could have used him vs Toledo.

i have nothing to add other than my blood pressure and lady friend will not be able to take this mother ****ing pussy ass bull**** slow cockeyed sausage wallet'ed football one more week. hire me for free, i will coach this team up AND run the stairs with them. i've had enough.

Since he left CU:

DC Wisconsin
2006 11-1
2007 9-4

DC Northwestern
2008 9-4
2009 1-0 so far

Steve Logan is another interesting name. He was the Boston College OC when Jagodzinski was there, who is also out of work and did wonders at BC. Logan is currently the Bucs RB coach and was the East Carolina Head Coach from 1992-2002. He's from Oklahoma originally and was actually a RB coach at CU in 85-86.
