Im telling you, I feel like we're going to win 7 or 8 games this year. I dont feel like this Toledo game is even going to be close. **** Toledo. Im not calling anyone out on being fans or whatever, I think the majority of anyone on here who would spend their day on a message board is a fan, throw **** at Hawk(coach), this isnt about him, I dont give a ****...but, be there to support the team. Financially and in voice. **** anybody we play. I hope they watch that garbage CSU tape and plan to come in Folsom, or wherever we play, and beat our ass. Good.
Theres a few former athletes on here, and I'm one too (kind of), and I have to tell you two observations I have. First---the first game should nearly be thrown out as a yard marker for the season. The first game of the season anyone can be beaten and you are often times so out of sorts. The cliche that the biggest improvement is between games 1 and 2 is so true that its silly. You have people out there who have never stepped foot on a college football field, who are just now understanding schemes, in CU's case receivers that are just guessing what they're supposed to be doing due to missing nearly all of camp. Can someone tell me we're not more talented than CSU? For the first time in years, we are. Im not saying that this has nothing to do with Hawkins, it does. I get it and this has nothing to do with saving his job or anything. I could give a ****. Part of his job is to have the team prepared. A big part. But, I also think it runs deeper than that. The man has won elsewhere, he's capable of preparing a team. Until this year, Im not sure we had the talent to win games (going to a Bowl was a damn good coaching job, IMO). This game we got beat. Period. Shouldnt have. First game and i'd be SHOCKED if we ddint blow out Toledo and win 7-8 games this year.
Second---the theory that coach is "losing the team". Ehhh, thats way over-rated. If there was some mass upheaval or uprising against Hawk, okay. Thats a big deal. Thats not happening guys. THEY got beat. The players are pissed at themselves, D. Scott is pissed (though such a class act, he just wants carries this week), the rest of the team isnt like giving up on the season. Theres seniors on the team that just want to win and play. The underclassmen just want to prove themselves and earn a job next year. This **** about the team being, pissed about TH is crazy and not true. You and I can say what we want about who should start, but, the team doesnt believe this is a problem. First, Cody is super popular. Second, TH wanted to start first, if not, he WANTED to redshirt. The team just wants to win....for Dan Hawkins or for ****ing batman, they dont care whos coaching at this point. They trust their coach and coordinators. There are some players on every team who are disgruntled, some who LOVE the coach, etc, etc.
Im rambling so heres the point---we beat Toldedo by 28. Book it. I wanted to go on record BEFORE the game so I can be called out if Im wrong. Im not.

Pass me the Kool-aid. I've come out of my slump!

I'm with ya here....maybe it's just that today is the first day I've been able to shake off that game and feel somewhat ok about it, but I also think the Buffs can do good things this year.

The CSU game is always a lose/lose scenario for the Buffs, I definately buy the first game of the season argument, we looked terribly flat and things could definately get better...Friday will be a very telling sign of if Sunday was an abarration or if it what we should expect for the rest of the season...I think we pound some Toledo skulls as well!

ALL I know is Hack better beat the next 2 teams or the meltdown experienced this week will be have been but a small quake prior to a St Helens-like eruption.

I'm still pretty pissed about Sunday, but I can't see the point of writing off the season. We can still have a successful season, and while there are plenty of reasons to criticize the staff, if we win 7 or 8 games this year they will have met the expectations of most of the people on this board, at least what people SAID they expected.

But if Darrell Scott doesn't touch the ball at least 20 times against toledo I'm going to be extremely pissed.

Good Post. Here's my take:

We were too optimistic. This team beat who last year? CSU in their coach's first game? E. Washington with a defensive TD late - at home? ISU and KSU at home, in close ones? WVU - when their coach forgot how to manage the clock? I'm not taking anything away, I'm just saying we were BAD last year. We had a lot of in injuries, especially on the O-Line. But we were bad.

My concerns? The O-Line. We return 2 guys with experience. Granted, Iltis, Adkins and Givens should be upgrades. It was not their first start though. It was their first snaps, and then Iltis went out after 6 of them.

Cody is never going to be able to put this team on his back and ATHLETE us to wins. We have to have a running game. We have to have playmakers at WR (Simas, get your SH&T together please). Simmons looked great, but he had no clue where to go half the time. Wright was a mess. WR can only improve. This week without Simas will still be a big challenge. Cody is locked on Scotty and he needs to involve everyone. He clearly doesn't have confidence in some of the WR's because they did not get a look. The Tight Ends became part of the game in the 2nd half - we need that.

We got a new O-Coord and a new O-Line coach. The jury is out on this bunch. I have confidence in Kiesau but really, when was the last time a team of CU's stature promoted a guy to OC from within with as little experience? This doesn't happen anywhere else. Fix the Freaking one-year contracts please for our assistants!

If our O-Line can fix itself we will be a lot better. If....

Our D will fix itself. They got scorched by CSU WR's but I know this will get fixed. A turd a year on D is our average. Got it out of the way before Missouri this year!

I tried pointing that out all off-season, and all that got me was being labeled as a bad fan or worse, a Husker or Ram troll.
