And they'll have plenty more chances to impress in their next 2 games, which are at VT and home against OU. They do look very good tonight, particularly on offense, and Harris looks great. He's been very accurate and seems to fling the ball downfield with ease.

Yup, couldn't agree more. I give Miami a bit of a pass because the OB was probably doomed anyway, I'm guessing. And at least the OB would get loud and had a bit more of a college atmosphere instead of these games you see being played at the newer pro stadiums. It probably also helped that it was alot closer to campus. If you ever watch a Pitt home game, that place is lifeless.
talk about walking the gauntlet to start the season...florida state, georgia tech, va tech, and oklahoma. jeepers. they are playing some awesome football though.

All football played on a visible baseball infield is hideous. Props to Miami for having the juice to schedule their September as they did. And they're backing it up. OU fan is sweating. The U may have their swagger back and Randy Shannon is letting his players do the silencing of his critics who put him on the hot seat. Jimmy Graham is Greg Olsen Lite, and that's a good thing for the Canes.

Yeah, it was falling apart. Plus, the OB was in the Little Cuba area of Miami I believe and it's pretty dangerous there. Good thing the place was razed so the Marlin's new stadium could go there. lol
Miami wasn't able to fill the OB consistently; they'll do worse at Landshark. In fact, I think I saw some seat covers on the upper deck ends earlier.
They need to build an on-campus stadium, but I'm guessing that won't happen until they've spent 10-15 years at Landshark and people start getting tired of the empty feeling there emotionally.
If they get through Florida State-Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech-Oklahoma undefeated, they should be ranked #1 in the country. I don't care about pre-season rankings and what teams did last year. No one will have run a more impressive gauntlet if they accomplish that.

They beat an overrated and poorly coached FSU and they beat GA Tech at home.. Count me as one that's not that impressed.
If they beat VT and OU or even go 1-1 against them, I'll be more impressed.
We'll know quickly just how impressive the FSU win was. I think they've got BYU this week.

The Goofies built their own on-campus stadium. Last weekend against Air Force was the first game there.
Looked pretty nice. I particularly loved the announcers who kept talking about how college football belongs on campus, not in a pro stadium. I was hoping a few people in Fort Collins were watching... :lol:

The city of Coral Gables will not issue a building permit for an on campus stadium. When The U built the basketball arena the city made them remove seats from the design so the facility seated 8000. Weak sauce. IMHO, two blocks away and across Red Road is the city of South Miami. If I were them I would start aquiring property there with the intention of locating a stadium across the street.
The City of Miami refused to invest in or renovate the Orange Bowl (which they promptly tore down after The U left) for their only tenant UM.

Yea, I made a reference to Pitt in one of my earlier posts and how dead that place looks for a Pitt game. Of all these teams that play in pro stadiums, Pitt deserves the award for biggest loser because they actually moved OUT of an on-campus stadium to play in a sterile NFL stadium. :asskicking:
We can't give Miami too much credit for the tough schedule because 3 of these first 4 games are conference games, so they didn't have anything to do with those teams being on their schedule. And it just happened to work out that 2 of the top teams in the opposite division of the ACC ended up on their schedule (one is FSU, plus they still have to play Clemson down the road). But they certainly deserve credit for scheduling OU, plus they also have USF on the schedule.
How do you justify spending 100 to 200 million dollars on something that generates $400k to $600k net of net per game? From a labor prospective its often cheaper to demolish and start from scratch then it is to repair an existing facility. That said I think a lot more schools will turn to Pro facilities because its cheaper.
Their old stadium, Fitzgerald Field House, was falling apart and their basketball team had no place to play while regularly being the better program at the school of the two. Fitzgerald seated 6000 while the new Petersen center seats 12,500 for games and 14,000 for concerts. Which do you think benefits Pitt more? It cost $120 million to build. What do you think rebuilding Pitt Stadium would have cost?
