24-0 with 7+ minutes to play and Cody is in the game?

24 - 0 with 7+ minutes to play and Cody is in the game? Anyone else find this strange? Why put your best QB at risk? Didn’t Dan see what happened at the end of the game last week? Starting to think Dan doesn't want people to see any other QB's. As long as there are no comparisons to make, then he can maintain Cody is the best option.

His other option is a true freshman. Keeping Cody in the game gives him more reps. I know it sounds insane, and it is, but this is the reality of the situation.

Plus I think Hansen sees the writing on the wall that he will not play until Cody is gone, so he wants the redshirt. And I don't blame him one bit. The other options are true freshmen, and why play them when they can hopefully redshirt too. Get Cody the reps and move on I guess.

Because Lobato is supposedly the backup. So if CH goes down for a quarter, we have a guy who's never taken a snap in college.

LOL

They really should have gotten Lobato into that game for just that reason.

If Cody gets hurt, Hansen plays and burns the redshirt. I suspect Cody is going to play every offensive down this year, barring injury.

This crap wouldn't fly anywhere else. Hawk would be questioned and people wouldn't shy away. They would ask him why his more talented wr's aren't playing and why his son is playing every snap in blowout games.

The way he's running this football team is baffling.

Dan Hawkins is up to his ears in bull****. He must think the Colorado football program is his personal toy and he can do as he damn well pleases with it. He has virtually eliminated all competition for his son. I actually feel bad for the kid for being in the middle of this nonsense.

I don't believe a word Dan Hawkins says regarding his perceptions of players' practice performance, their attitudes and subsequent playing time. What else is left after the head coach is completely disingenuous about the quarterback competition and another player's "injury" before the first game of the season.

Now there is no true backup quarterback. Coach Dan is sacrificing the program for his own selfish agenda. Good Grief, Bohn and DiStefano, make the move!

I know, I know... but is Hansen going to play if there's an equipment problem or Cody gets dinged up and is only out for a series or two?

Ya still gotta have someone at least a little ready for those short term problems that Hansen isn't coming in for.

The QB situation is laughable. Not sure why everyone is suddenly shocked that Cody looks in over his head.

Everyone (including Coach Hawkins) was critical of the previous regime because Klatt got 85% of the snaps. Now Cody is suppose to get 100%. No other team would do this. If Hansen is really going to redshirt - then pick your number 2 guy and get him some snaps. Clark Evans can redshirt next year when both Cody and Hansen are sharing playing time. Redshirting everyone so Cody can take all the snaps is plain stupid. What about Hawkins talk of building depth.

Someone else should of gotten 4th quarter snaps the last two weeks.

I thought Lobato was going to play in garbage time or if Cody is only slightly injured. 24-0 vs Wyoming doesn't count as garbage time I suppose.

Hawk figures the other team will have their back-ups in and his son can pad his stats and brag how good he was.

This is going to backfire in a big way. Just wait until the texas game......

Burning Lobato's redshirt is an incredibly shortsighted idea. He is nowhere near ready

Completely wrong.

What if... Cody goes down at the end of Okie Light and we're 3-8.

Do you burn Hansen's redshirt for one game against Nebraska in a losing campaign? I say no.

But, the only option left is Lobato... or Evans with NO experience, for an entire game?

There are 5 QBs on the roster right now, if you redshirt the three freshmen, they still aren't spaced out, they aren't all going to play.

Keeping the redshirt on three freshmen when one should be gaining experience is incredibly shortsighted.

Especially when you can just redshirt the one who plays this year next year.

Makw hawk play qb .

meh. he just was scared ****less to the lose the game somehow. He wanted the post game coverage to be as positive as possible. He was coaching for his job. That was the most conservative I have ever seen a Hawk team play.

In essence: He risked his son and made bad coaching decisions to try and save his career.

We are so ****ed.

No we are not! It's just the little things and what would you know? Until you've been in the fire and failed and picked yourself back up, it's easy to sit on the outside and say we are ****ed. :smile2:

**** you... you've never coached D1 football!

Here is a very cynical thought. Not saying it is true, but it is an interesting thought.

Dan has to play Cody because he has insisted no one is better. If someone plays better than Cody now, Dan is discredited. If Cody can beat Klatt’s all time passing record, then Dan can tout Cody’s record breaking resume. Red shirt the two biggest threats, get Cody the record and wave it in vindication. Now Cody can play his senior year because you can’t sit the all time pass leader over a red shirt freshman. Tyler never sees the field again as a Buff, because if he does well, there will always be questions. Cody currently needs 1716 yards to get the record. (191 Yards per game)

What will Dan do if Cody gets hurt? Does he roll out a QB and scheme that proves Cody is the best, or does he save his Job?

I agree, given the current state of affairs, it is quite possible Hansen may never see the field again as a Buff.

Hansen might get a chance next year. Though I doubt since Cody will be a Sr. Unless he blows Cody out of the water in camp. But as long as he gets his RS this year he will still have the opportunity to start for two years once Cody is gone.

I think you're partly right. I think it's misguided pride that has Juicebox keeping Cody in. He's spent so much time insisting that he knows what he's doing and the Cody is the best and only option for the team right now. If someone goes in and outperforms Cody, he looks like an ass. As tenuous as his job situation may be right now, that could be very bad.

I think Hawkins is coaching for his job right now, which is detrimental to the team. He want's to keep his job and prove he's been right come hell or high water. I truly think that deep down inside, that's part of it.

That being said, I'm not sure anyone would outperform Cody right now, which is one of the top 2 problems on this team. Of course, you never know unless you put them in the game and get them some reps.

Guys, I am sad to say it, but I am starting to think Hawk is right. every report I have read coming out of spring training, training camps, says that Hansen is no better than Cody. And if none of the new guys are showing any promise, then you have to try to redshirt Hansen to give you as much time as possible to get a great QB in here and up to speed.

I bet if Jordan Wynn had come here we might have been having a different conversation, as he was good enough to supplant the QBs senior to him at Utah, like Barkely is good enough to supplant the QBs above him at USC.

If a 5 star QB wants playing time, he could sign with CU this year, redshirt next, and have a great GREAT shot at being a four year starter for CU and breaking all the records.
