What did Hawk say to Klatt?

on his radio show on KOA, a caller mentioned to him that Klatt had said it will help Scott that he isn't running the ball from a dead standstill out of the spread. Hawk responded something like "Since when has Joel Klatt been a coach."

Even I, who is trying to show a bit of support, rolled my eyes at that one and knew he'd get raked over the coals for saying it. Joel is pretty damned highly regarded by CU fans. But I figured that it may stem from Joel constantly ripping Hawkins. I think Joel goes a bit over board with his ripping, as well.

I can understand Hawkins blasting guys like me who have been football voyeurs since junior high school. But ignoring guys who have played at a high level, especially those that have CU resumés, is sticking your head in the sand. And when your head's in the sand, guess what's sticking up, begging to be reamed?

He said,"Not only are you a walk-on QB, but you're terrible". Or something like that....:smile2:

Let's not forget Klatt's dad is also a FB coach. Joel has been around football his entire life and played at a very high level in college.

I would kill to have Klatt back at QB. He may not have been the most mobile dude, but he was a far sight better than the guys we have on the roster today.

and Klatts dad was a football coach at pomona

**** Pamona! Go A West and RV!! Did Klatt Sr. coach Greg Biekert and, I think, Heath Irwin? Weren't they both from Pamona?

Biekert was from longmont i think. Irwin went to Boulder High.

Really? I could have sworn that both of them went to Pamona. Oh well, guess Klatt Sr. didn't coach them. No wonder Pamona sucks.

Biekert was from Longmont (class of 87)
Den Deluzio played at pomona

Funny thing is that Gary Klatt was my athletic director at Standley Lake. He came to our pregame prep rally against Pomona and told us how much he hated Pomona. One year later he was coaching his son at that damned school.

He is a great guy though. I know the family very well.

Funny. That isn't what he said about you. :smile2:

poser.

Edit: it would appear that you've already been corrected. Several times in fact.

you're still a poser.

The Irwins are one of those Boulder High legacy families. Like the Andersons, the McCartys and the Gondrozeks. They all went to BHS.

Since when? I'm definitely not part of that crowd, and I know quite a few others that think he was one of the most overrated quarterbacks ever. He had a great first game, but then... I don't hate on him like I do some of our other former players (not going to say who), but I definitely don't think the overall sentiment about Klatt is one of "damn high regard."

He wasn't the most skilled QB, but I think he was a great leader and stand up guy.

Compared to the other QBs CU has had since Detmer left, give me Klatt every time.

I wasn't big on Klatt while he was our qb either. However, when comparing what we have now to Klatt, he looks like a heisman candidate.

That says more about the dearth of talent we have experienced at QB since Detmer left than it does about Klatt.

Yeah, I won't argue with that. I'm just saying he's by far the best QB CU has had in the past 10 or so years.

I don't see the need to bag on him because he wasn't a superstar. CU has only had 3 superstar QBs (Hagan, Stewart, Detmer) that I can remember. I'm sure there were some back before Hagan, but there certainly haven't been any since Koy left.

But I hold Klatt in high regard simply because he's the best QB the Buffs have fielded in a long time.

where were Ted Johnson and C Brown from? damn, we had some linebackers back in the day. I really like Major and Rippy though, great ability.
