would Landry Jones be starting at CU, or sitting behind Cody

i'm not a huge fan of the nepotism theory but more it's effects on recruiting.

i really thought Hanson gave the O more in the fall scrimmage. i'm not sure where we are at in our "mojo" offense that apparenty isn't about pounding the ball (as was yakked up since April). Some new wrinkle in the Boise Playbook that will finish last in the conference again?

I have to believe Jones would be starting. If I believe he'd be sitting behind Cody, I really don't think I could stand to watch the rest of this season...

He would start, that guy can ball a little. I saw him play as a high school senior in Artesia, he was a man among boys. Eventhough NM competition is weak for the most part, Landry couldve played in any state and been highly recruited.

No doubt Jones would have been starting last year. Hawk went after Jones HARD, and he's gone after other QBs too...it just seemed that Jones liked Hawk a lot. We're just striking out on kids at some key positions - either we don't get them, or they don't do that great when they get here.

I completely disagree with the nepotism theory by the way. I just don't think Hansen was that good last year, but I will be surprised if Cody is starting next year.

I have no doubt from his performance this year that he could get the job done and would be an upgrade for the Buffs. The bigger question is what would it have taken to get him to sign here over OU? The current QB situation certainly doesn't help, but I think it would have taken more than killing the nepotism angle to get him to choose us over the Sooners.

there's too much at stake for the HC at a major BCS school to be playing his kid because he's his kid. i do question the staff's assessment of everything else that makes them in the position that no recruit can challenge Cody at QB.

i said after the BJax year, that year 2 was important since the so-called Boise Playbook would need to put up numbers and show flash to recruit QB's. that didn't and hasn't happened.

we lose Ballenger. Hawk's comment that Cox and White weren't ready because Klatt took 85% of the snaps is horse****. this offense sucks more than it's genius stuff, imo.

how many game snaps did Landry Jones get last year? Colt McCoy as a freshman?

Landry Jones is too tall for the Hawkins system, he may be too fast as well. The Boise playbook is almost like Karma Suitra. What the hell is that like in real life?

If you're running it in real life (Boise State, Colorado), there's a 50% chance you're getting ****ed? Is that what you're reaching for?

I see the Boise playbook on TV when Peterson runs it in Idaho and beats Oregon. Yes it is a reach to see it in Boulder! I just don't think the Buffs players can't line up right and look snappy. I thought Hawkins could expand the Boise playbook at C.U. I am still waiting!

I see nepotism everyday in the business world. People can be incredibly stupid when it comes to their relatives. I have seen people lose fortunes because they promote relatives into key positions and fail to correct the situation when it is obvious that they have made a bad decision. I don't think for a minute that too much is at stake.

The situation also causes a lot of other problems for the assistant coaches. It is not a good career move to suggest benching your bosses son.

I like Cody as a person but there is no way he would still be QB if he wasn’t Dan’s son.

He is so effected by the pressure that he is getting worse over time not better. His stats across the board are the worst in the Big 12. Every other starting QB in the Big 12 has gotten better as they have played, Cody has gotten worse every year. When the long term trend, shows your QB is getting worse, it is time to change QBs.

Last year when Cody struggled all year long, Dan burned Tyler’s redshirt; but instead of showing Tyler confidence and increasing his time, Tyler had to split time with Cody. Then one day, Dan sat Tyler for the rest of the year. Nick Nelson was Cody’s backup, why pull Tyler’s redshirt if you are not going to take advantage of the opportunity?

When we went 2-10 and B Jack was struggling Dan didn’t pull Cody’s redshirt?

This year Tyler and Cody were about even coming into the season. Cody had a miserable first two games, But he was not replaced. Any other coach with two qualified QB’s, would at least try to put the other QB in to win the games.

I don’t understand how anyone can believe the Cody isn’t getting special treatment.

Because Im not sure how great the alternative is. Tyler seems like a great kid, but, last year he wasnt better than Cody. He was worse IMHO. He can run, but, unless he's learned to occasionally throw the ball, why not start Speedy at QB??? I think Cody's the best option (sadly) and keeps TH's redshirt in tact. PB knows more inside info than I do (see: none) and he says that TH WAS going to start before this incident. Which proves my above points wrong, I suppose. I have no reason to doubt PB since he's been correct and ahead of reporting on every single thing he's said thus far. So, not seeing the nepotism.

****ty coach? Granted. Great kid-not so great QB? Yep. Best/only option---think so.

Am I crazy on this??

I don't think Hawk is a ****ty coach, but maybe outcoached at this level. And I think signing his son has hurt his QB recruiting is a way that maybe he did not anticipate, thus leaving him with Cody as the best alternative, and no better choice to put out there. I am not sure he would admit this, but I bet if Hawk could do it again he might have suggested Cody go so a different school, just to ease pressure on both of them.

:cry:noway... landry jones would not even sniff the field !! hawk is not gonna make hes kiddo look bad..

I actually do not beleive that now. The decision to play Hansen may of in fact been more like I feel the decision was last year, 'Let's put Hasen out there and show the fans that he is not a better QB than Cody.' Never felt they really stuck with Hansen when the change was made- but kind of kept pulling the rug out from under both QBs.

...Tyler did not do that well last year. I think you're just really pulling for him to win the job, and therefore, you're searching for reasons why Cody is still playing. Special treatment is the most convenient excuse, because for some reason, a lot of you guys don't see that Hansen really wasn't good last year. He was like BJax - except not as great of a runner and a better thrower. We didn't get to see him throw though, because he just kept tucking and running - and they weren't ALL be design.

I agree - Cody isn't that great. He has glimpses, but just isn't that great. But at the same time, he is receiving a lot of unfair criticism, because he's the coach's son. Each bad throw he makes - cussing. Each dropped ball - cussing, but Cody isn't said to have made a good throw. Each completion - frustrated/sarcastic expressions of joy.

Cody was pulled last year, because he wasn't performing. Is that special treatment? Hansen just kept tucking the ball away and obviously was confused a bit out there. I completely understand why Hansen wasn't completely given over the reigns. Cody did come back and win us that Iowa St game, and I think he deserved to get the majority of the time last year. Hansen wasn't just mysteriously benched - Cody earned it with that game and Hansen's poor performance.

In all honesty, I think Hansen is being redshirted to save him for next year, and perhaps beyond. Him redshirting isn't something that goes against him, but potentially helps him (similar thinking to when Cody was redshirted when the team under BJax wasn't doing that well). They may burn it again to help spark some offense, but I doubt it. Sure, our team sucks right now - get used to it. Stop bashing players though, and keep supporting your team. They know they're not performing on the field that well...

Supposedly Hansen caught up in the spring and fall, but then suddenly he has to be RSed? That's BS, and when Cody isn't performing (like in the 1st half of the 1st game) another option should be tried.

With that porn 'stache...he should start anywhere

it's the shaved and sculpted eyebrows that are gayer than anything else.

i thought we (as a culture) got over that with boy bands 5 years ago.

In Oklahoma, it's 1999 right now.

there's a lot of truth to that. i went to high school in Norman after my folks got divorced and my mom remarried a guy in Norman, and about 5 years real time is the fashion/reality lag. i will say that the Norman public school system is pretty good compared to what i had in Denver. got me in to Vanderbilt and some other good schools.

Public education is kind of a joke in CO.

I didn't go to the Spring game, but imo Cody was the better qb last year. The only time Hansen played more effectively was when he was slipped into an game where the opponent hadn't gameplanned for him. He was miserable at Mizzou, had a low pass completion rate at aTm, and Cody was unquestionably better in the ISU game. In addition, the ISU game gave me the impression that the better team leader is Cody.

I can't see any proof nepotism has influenced who plays, but I do think it probably effected recruiting.

Cody is more experienced and is playing behind a more experienced line, and he is statistically getting worse. I think that a point to a confidence problem and leaving him in the game is making it worse. That is unfair to Cody.
The Coaches didn’t give Tyler a fair chance to improve last year; if they did maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation this year. When you pull you starting QB and jump the Backup for a true freshman, it normally means you are looking to the future.
Nobody knows who is better in a game situation because nobody has ever been give a fair shot to take Cody’s Job. But we do know with high probability that this year will be a bust if Cody continues. The QB is pivotal to making the offence work and he is not getting the job done. Some chance is better than no chance

I agree with this. For all of the negative comments about Cody at QB, I have never seen proof on the field that anyone else is a better option right now. Considering that I do not consider Cody a very good QB, this bothers me a lot. Maybe Cody affected recruiting, maybe not, but being four years in with a Big 12 team and not having a quality QB developed in the system is not a good sign.

How many games would you consider a fair shot? Hanson started 3 last year.

He started 3 and was yanked the next series in at least one of them. I know we joke about the RB (joke is the wrong word) need to get in rythem, QBs need the same. Cody is the only QB that has had a chance to play any consistant time. Time to see how someone else reacts when they know they are the only option for that game.

I don't think that's completely accurate. He got a fair shake at Mizzou and played the entire first half vs. ISU. If he would have been given the entire ISU game, most likely we would have lost.

So you're just going with the coaches on the QB selection?

Me too, I'm going with their statement that Hansen had caught up and it was a tossup who to play. If that's true, and QB #1a isn't playing well, then QB #1b ought to get a chance.

:huh::cool::cool: I think that Hawkins put a lot of stock into the "Elite 11" stuff that his son was involved with, and I believe that DH thought that CH was a viable BCS QB. I also believe that they both came here with the plan that CH would redshirt, then be the 4 year starter. DH just thought CH was that good. I'm sure it hurt QB recruiting for a couple of years, but shouldn't going forward. Now it's just the losing record(s) that hurt recruiting.....

DH & CH are just two examples of big fish from a small pond.

I don't see Hansen as eventually being head & shoulders better than CH.

Question: If you had a kid who was a high level QB recruit who wanted to stay in Colorado, and seeing what you've seen already with Fairchild and DH, is there any question whether he'd be better off (football-wise) going to CSU? Now there's an Inconvenient Truth.

Tyler had a better QB rating than Cody in the MU game.

Go back and look at how they used Tyler. Run on first and second and try to pass on third and long. Passing stats never look good in that scenario.

They pulled Tyler's redshirt to play him over Nelson, which indicated he was the future of the Buffs. If they would have kept giving him game time experience maybe we would not be in the exact same situation again this year.

The two things we know for certain:
1. There is a high probability Cody will not get us to a bowl game again this year.
2. Nobody else has ever been given a fair game time chance to take his job.
