Kicking Game

Can we pull a Texas Tech and have a kicking contest at halftime to find a new kicker?

Goodman is horrific, his kickoffs are short and he couldn't hit a meaningful field goal if his life depended on it.

Maybe Cody can kick? We could move him to kicker and get a real qb in there but he would still get playing time which would make Coach Talkins happy.

Its amazing how Hawk just passes out scholarships to these guys who can't make FG when we have so many holes everywhere else..

I'd imagine Hawk would have given a ship to Katie Hnida if he was coach in 99..

Good Lord they must be dreadful if they still don't get a shot.

At this point, I am up for letting one of them take their chances.

Up until last night, it appeared Goodman had chased away his demons.
Up until last night, Goodman had made three and missed just one. Respectable.

He missed more than he made last night.

Game made, attempted
CSU 1-1
TOL 1-2
WYO 1-1
WVA 1-4

First three games: made 3, attempted 4, missed 1. 75%. Decent.

First four games: made 4, attempted 8 and missed 4 if my math is right.
Right at 50%.

If he'd kept up the pace of the first three games, we'd be okay.

In the CSU game, he made a 54 yarder, longest of his career.
That must be why they attempted a 57 yarder last night.

WVA stats:
[FONT=courier new,courier]Goodman, Aric 1st 10:45 40 yds - Missed
Goodman, Aric 1st 03:56 45 yds - Missed
Goodman, Aric 2nd 03:51 39 yds - Good
Goodman, Aric 4th 05:59 57 yds - Missed

I'm with ya. I'm now scared of a repeat of last year. I'm afraid that with those misses he's lost his confidence and will miss multiple kicks this year.

some of the misses were pretty bad. he pulled them across the goal-posts from the wide hash. i don't know much about kicking but from a golf perspective that's a bad mechanics miss. big pull-hook left of the green when you are lined up right of the target.

Even on his extra points he seem to have a natural hook. Being 40+ yards out he has to aim further right to get it between the uprights. Thata why he missed all to the left. The long one he just tried to hit the ball to hard. Plus that one step approach is crap!

The kicking game really frustrates me. We lose so much momentum every time Goodman misses a kick

he hit the ball pretty good in the scrimmage at Folsom. kid has a big leg. not Mason big, but he's got the physical part to be a good college PK. it's in his head, like golf. mechanics let him down when it's time to show.

I agree, it is between his ears. On the 40+ he has the distance, no question of his strength. He needs to get the mental part down, and I don't think he can. He is not showing the ability to shake off bad kicks and recover and get ready for the next kick.

You guys just don't get it....Cody's best friends are Goodman & McKnight (only guy who is thrown the ball)....unless we can get Goodman & Cody to get in a fight over a woman, he'll be kicking every game that Dan Hawkins is coaching.
