Tommy Tubberville?

Almost forgot that the guy resigned from Auburn, what do you guys think about him as a coaching candidate for the eventually vacant HC job?

Proven coach, suffered from extremely impatient and unrealistic Alabama fans in the extremely tough SEC.

Um do you know who Tubbs is?

He coached at Auburn, and he was their for near 10 years, his inability to replicate his undefeated season is what did him in not impatience.

I don't think he'd fit in at CU. I don't think he'd even want to come to CU. He's a good coach, but he needs a SEC/ACC coaching job.

No we need someone who bleeds CU FOOTBALL, someone who played or coached at CU during our glory days someone who knows what it takes to take CU back to where we belong and that's in the TOP 10 every year.

Hiring from 'with-in' is a foolish idea that greatly reduces your pool of solid applicants and ultimately increases the chance you'll fail.

not neccesarily, Mac didnt have any CU connections or bleed BnG before he got here.

Tommy didnt resign, he was fired by the boosters despite what the media and school said.

He would be a great fit and would succeed, even though I agree he's more of a Southern Coach. However, he's out of a job and cant get too picky himself.

Slick Rick was successful before he took off, GB won before he got canned, we went out side of the house and look where we are at now. I understand your argument but right now CU isn't the CU of the 90's and what big name coaches do you think would want to come to CU and start all over?

you mean like how John Blake and Mike Shula "got" OU FOOTBALL and ALABAMA FOOTBALL?

pass on the back to the past hire.

Many schools chase their alums to bring glory back, Miami has just done it, look at Michigan they tried very hard to land Les Miles and he didn't want to go back and pick up the mess that was at Michigan and start over. Many coaches go back to schools that they have ties with in the past.

This has Logan written all over it.

And I seriously want to know when has CU been in the top 10 EVERY year. Yeah we had a nice run, but lets not pretend that CU was in the top 10 EVERY year for 80 years.

Auburn is in Alabama. When DCBuff said Alabama fans, he was referring to the State of Alabama, not the University of Alabama.

Tubberville is an excellent coach, but he won't be hired at CU.

This type of thinking gets people in trouble. If you are going to hire someone you find the best fit possible.

CU has a lot of advantages but it also has some barriers in recruiting. My first criteria is a coach who is a lights out recruiter and understands the importance of assembling a staff of good recruiters.

Second, is someone who has a good football knowledge and has demonstrated the ability to develop talent.

I trust his resume and his choice of assistants should he come here. He won't be scrutinized here nearly as much as he would be in the southeast as long as he WINS GAMES. Which he has proven he can do. Winning at Auburn is very different from winning at Boise. He would toughen up this defense and bring in some great recruits on that side of the ball.

You guys keep bringing it up and I cannot help but laugh. I love the guy and he would be a HORRIBLE fit for Boulder. HORRIBLE fit.

Like Bill McCartney was a horrible fit for Boulder. WINS, I tell you!

I also think you guys would pull your hair out if you hate Dan Hawkins' postgames. But hey, Auburn, Alabama and Boulder are pretty much the same place.

That's the least of my concerns. A guy who won in the SEC in his first head coaching job is very attractive to this program, IMO.

You need to understand how he won those games. He recruited Georgia, southern Alabama, and the Florida panhandle exclusively (along with southern JUCOs). How is that going to work at CU?

We'd get a few guys from there, I believe. And more than that, whoever's one the roster would be coached well. A college team doesn't go 13-0 on the strength of athletes alone.

Believe me, I'm not ignoring your concerns. I just think it's worth looking at if you're Bohn. Guy's had his eyes shut this year, period.

Okay. Just know also that the guy loves Auburn (family does too-bought a newer house not too long ago) and he has had some health issues recently. Not sure a major move across the country is in the cards.

Fair enough. For the record, I want Gary Kubiak. Geography would be much kinder to him.

CU was lower when Mac came in than we are now...

You are wrong. Slick took a national championship program and had it reeling by the time he left. His teams were getting worse and his record was falling off. He left the program with ZERO QB's in the program as well, which evidently, is why the media refers to him as a QB genius.

GB won at a time when the B12 North was ridiculously weak. We got killed by good teams after 2001 (Rick's recruits) and the recruiting fell off each year. Ultimately, the recruiting scandal put a halt to any semblance of recruiting, which I do not blame on GB.

Mac: Top 5
Slick: Top 25
GB: Top 40
Hawk: Top 100

We are a QB and 2 WR's away, along with a seasoned DC who can use the talent we have to get this D to stop giving up huge plays. The talent nucleus right now, mostly Sophomores and younger, is much better than it's been since 2002.

Despite my criticisms of Hawkins I do agree with this statement for the most part.

I think that no matter who the coach is, we are going to be a very talented team in 2012 with a few more players stepping up at key positions. Next year will should have a set of very talented WR (if they all play), but we still won't have a QB ready to play in the Big XII.

I still don't think that Hawkins is the coach that can get the most out of that talent, however.

What about doing something similar to KSU and bringing back Coach Mac, I bet he could still get it done!

Granted I do not ever want to compare us to KSU but you get the idea.

Tubbs bleads Auburn, the problem was always the people who actually run Auburn, the old Jordan boosters. They never liked Tubbs even when he was hired and waited patiently on his first failure to get him out which took 10 years to happen. Tubbs is 54 and there is not any big SEC job opening up in the near future, I think that will play into his decision as well. The buyout money from Auburn was good, but you can tell from his work on ESPNU that he still has a fire for the game.

Recruiting would be interesting to watch, Tubbs is a good closer and he can assemble a good force of recruiters & coaches. The only drawback would be the lack of development of WR's and if he can recruit California.
