Nepotism issue with the Hawk's just got brought up on the Shawnee vs Carl Albert Oklahoma HS game...

Im not paying attention to this horse-****, but, i assume one of the coach's starts his son or something, just perked up when I heard Hawkins and CU being discussed.

(For the record, I dont buy the nepotism thing AT ALL, but, even I had to shake my head and laugh).

Any publicity is good publicity??? Theyre talking about us all over the country i guess.

Meh - it's moot whether it's nepotism. The decision to play Cody every snap hasn't worked, and hasn't been changed.

I don't believe that Dan has made Cody the starter the past 3 years simply because he is his son. I do believe that it has worked to Cody's advantage as far as being more trusted by Dan and being Dan's eyes in the locker room.

But the real nepotism issue is that it is a real perception that:

- damages team morale
- hurts recruiting
- kept us from getting a QB to transfer here despite the apparent opportunity

If you're going to bring your son in, he either needs to be a superstar no one would question or a benchwarmer the coach treats worse than everyone else (Bobby / Pat Knight). The Dan / Cody Hawkins scenario of an average to below average starter treated like he's special is a recipe for disaster.

Right now, they're too busy saying Landry Jones is the next great OU quarterback and how they'll easily roll over Miami tonight.

I mean, he might very well BE that for them, but he's beaten up Idaho State and Tulsa -- we'll see how he does tonight.

After what I have seen this year I will have to say that I am convinced that is it nepotism. The 12th rated QB in the Big 12 with 30 starts under his belt and no one considers pulling him. In 2000 Zac Colvin was starting, they didn't feel he was getting it done so they benched him for Bobby P and they still struggled so they pulled the redshirt off Ochs and started him. Guess what all of those QBs had higher efficiency rating than Cody Hawkins. That is what most coaches do, I don't care if Cody looks better in practice - that is a pathetic excuse.
