We forgot to congratulate Dan Hawkins after the Wyoming game for tying Dave Cropp for 14th on the all-time CU coaching wins list at 14.

Cropp did it in 2 years with records of 8-2-0 and 6-2-1.

to be fair to hawk and im finding it hard to be at this point... he inherited an unfathomably ****ty team in 06 and thats half of his bad record

And to be fair, he lost to Montana freaking State that year. You cannot tell me there are not coaching issues that contributed to that poor record. Not saying we should have even been a bowl team that season, but I think a halfway decent coach could have squeezed 2-3 more wins out of that team.

I do not think Hawkins is the only coach in the history of college football to take over a program under less than optimal circumstances. I am not that intimately familiar with CU football's coaching history to make any comments about any of these individuals specifically, but I am certain that at least a few of them with winning records started out with very little talent.

The team was not that bad. A decent coach would of had at least 5 wins out of that team.

CSU, Montana State, Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor were all very winnable that year. Our talent was as good or better than all of those teams.

The conspriracy part of me thinks he chased White off the reservation so the path would be clear for Cody after a redshrit year.:smile2:

To be fair, he inherited a team with a defense that held Georgia to 14 on the road and kept them in most games. And he singlehandedly destroyed the QB position in 2006 to the point which it still hasn't recovered. That 2006 team was bad, but it was hardly 'unfathomably ****ty'.

That 2006 team included players better than anyone on the roster now. Dizon, TWheat, Washington, Abe Wright, Hugh Charles, DeVree, Stephone Robinson, Patrick 'Stonehand' Williams, Blake Mackey, Jarell Yates, Mason Crosby, an offensive line that was head and shoulders above what we have now... I can go on... I'd take many of the starters on that 2006 team over most anyone we have now.

GBs recruiting mess hurt the depth on that team, but the top of that 2006 team was an experienced, talented bunch compared to what we have now.

:iagree:
Man, the "Stonehand" Williams line cracked me up. You forgot to add "the artist formerly known as" in front of Jarell Yates. All in all though you look at the roster from '06 and it was not bad at all except at QB and as mentioned before coach Hawkbanks ran Brian White off. Who knows how good that team would have been with a competent coach but I'd bet my house that Barnett would have had them in a bowl.

Mac's record after 41 games (12-28-1) was worse than Hawks.

Just sayin'.

Mac took over after the Fairbanks debacle, which was far worse than what Barnett left Hawkins.

In year 4, Mac produced a winning record and went to a minor bowl game. He never had a losing season after his first three years. Even in the first few years when he was losing, the product on the field was improving steadily, if it wasn't apparent in the W-L record.

Hawk is in year 4. If he takes us to a minor bowl game, then I'll back off. As far as product on the field, our offense has no passing game and has trouble scoring, our defense lacks discipline and constantly gives up big plays, and our special teams are a distaster with bad punting, placekicking and an ineffective return game.

Yeah... well... uh... how many GPA records did Mac's teams set? Huh? Yeah, bitches, put that in your pipes and smoke it!
