Did anyone notice the push that Cunningham

was getting all game on Saturday? He was really effective getting upfield, and he showed a spin move that really was tough. I know he's only 5'6" tall, but he could be a real force for us over the next couple of years if he continues to develop. For that matter, at one point on Saturday night CU was playing true freshman West, Kasa and Bonsu at the defensive line with Beatty playing his hybrid DE/OLB.

5'6?

I'll admit I'm loving the way the young DL kids are playing lately. Push from the front 4? Haven't seen that in a while.

Yeah - he isn't 5' 6"....he is 6' 1"

That's the official listing, but I'm pretty sure he's a bit short of 6 feet.

Whatever, though.

I stop caring about camp/combine measurables once someone starts performing on the field for us.

All of a sudden they seem to look a whole lot more athletic as a group, at least imo... Some good speed pressuring the QB, some lateral movement, hell even some spin moves. Don't know what brought it on, but it is damn nice to see...

It's good to know we won't need to recruit anybody at DT for a couple years now..... :smile2:

I talked to CC's grandmother before the game and I told her that I was excited to see what her grandson would do in his career here at CU. He obliged me sacking Reesing for a 14 yard loss. I've been seriously impressed with how we've improved on defense this year. I hope they keep it up.

I don't know who's going to line up against Kasa this week, but they better bring a lunch and some back-up.

yeah!! 'cause Kasa will be putting on his hard hat, bringing his lunchpail, and clocking in for a full day's work.

Against the pass, gimme herrod. Against the run, gimme Kasa. However, I am happy to have them both :smile2:

I'm with you on Herrod, but if you watch the replay of the game, you'll see that KU started double teaming him about 1/2 way into the second quarter. Reesing was sacked 6 times, and even though Kasa didn't get a sack he caused all kinds of havoc in their backfield. I'd like to know when Reesing has ever been sacked that many times in one game?

Herrod, Kasa & West is a lot of DE talent. Unfortunately, it's also our entire scholarship depth chart. With Kasa/West so good as true freshmen I don't think we need a JUCO in the next class, but we do need to pull in 3 DE recruits.

We've got Diribe, who we need to hold on to. Of the next 2 at least 1 needs to be a strong side DE and there's this guy named Chris Martin over in Aurora. I guess he could work out ok. :smile2:

getting double teams as a true frosh playing at less then 100%.... And FL wanted to move him to offense... THANK YOU FL!

Marquez Herrod was on fire. He was playing like a man who was possessed. Let's see if he can keep that level of intensity.

The way the young DL guys are playing is what makes us for real in the North (+ Hansen of course). We went from getting NO PUSH against CSU and Toledo to getting sacks and fumbles versus West VA, Texas and Kansas.

If we had gotten the kind of DL line play against CSU we did Saturday, it would have made a lot more difference in that game than starting Hansen, imo...

Gee, ya think "c-o-a-c-h-i-n-g" might have a little something to do with it, just maybe????

Like most of the yakkers on this board, when the players do something great you think its all about them. When they suck, as they have been known to do, its always the coachs' fault!

Show some tiny little consistency of thought will ya?

:rolleyes::lol:

After we shut down the run, KU went to an all pass attack. We ran a 3 man front often with Herrod in the middle, and West and Beatty at either end. That is a serious speed rush. We were in a 3-2, with 6 db's. 3 safeties, Smith, Brown and Brown.

My buddy kept saying, man our D looks fast compared to a month ago. You think?

Cunningham was moving the middle of the line even against some double team action. He is strong guy with great leverage. Pericek was holding his own and is much more mobile than most DTs, can get to and make some plays that interior D-linemen usually don't make. Bonsu is also looking very good for a true FR. Herrod has stepped up his game and become a factor and West looks like a playmaker. He makes some mistakes but also makes some plays, as he gets more experience and develops physically he could be a difference maker on D.

I give a lot of credit to Bandison. I was really down on him, but he's done an impressive job that's shown on the field the past 2 weeks.

But this is college football so there's an intentional inconsistency. Most of us try not to be too negative on the players. Coaches are fair game, though.

I think Bandison deserves a lot of credit, the young guys are playing well. They are actually showing technique and running stunts.

That said, we cannot afford to step off the gas in DL recruiting. Need to sign another 4-5 guys this class. Depth is still a major issue.

Romeo said in a recent article that his number is 12 for defensive line. Unless Goree moves to offense or we suffer attrition, we've got 9. If nothing changes, it could mean we just recruit 3 DEs (assuming Obi's a DT now).

FWIW, I'd totally disagree with that. I believe we need 3 DEs and 2 DTs this cycle.

I can't for the life of me figure out how Cunningham, West, Kasa, and Pericek have all passed Obi on the depth chart. What on earth is that kid doing wrong? Was he simply overrated coming out of high school?

A certain caucasian safety hasn't played the last two games.
