Shanny turned down the Skins...

No huge surprise but if he wanted into the NFL, DC wouldn't be a bad place to go with an owner that has an obvious open checkbook and would probably give him the most control of the potential Shanny destinations. We know the GM in San Diego and Jerry Jones will not give him as much control as he could have had in DC.

So if he wants to stay close to the Shanny-mansion and be in the national spotlight he still has the one single option.

With any luck, there is an under the table deal that will be announced at the end of the season so he has time to put a staff together.

I don't know why you guys think it is that far fetched of an option?

If the guy wants an easy lifestyle near the comforts of his own super house he just finished building this is his only option. You gotta think, in this economy there are only so many places he can go and get the big coaching dollars that were given out a few years ago.

I also have a feeling that the reason why all these super bowl winning coaches are sitting out is because no one is willing to pay they type of money that the agents of these coaches are talking about. McD is proving that you dont have to have a big name super bowl winner to turn your club into a winner and that seems to be the route that most teams are starting to go. For some it works, for others, not so much but in the end they tend to hire the guy that is cheaper.

If Bohn isn't at least exploring this option, then I am totally pissed with our leadership at CU!

that.

and college coaching is NOT an easy job. Not when your entire roster turns over every few years. At Texas they pay the assistants a fortune and Mack just manages. The Colorado job will NEVER have that luxury. Shanny isn't going to work that hard for that little pay when he can get an NFL job. THat's the difference between him and other NFLer's who return. Carroll would not have gotten another job. Recruiting to Rebuild is 24/7 and evidenced by Shanny's last few teams, he doesn't put that effort in at this point.

Absolutely. Why people think Shanahan wants to take the redeye to bum**** Ohio to sweet talk a 3 star prospect is beyond me. Carrol and Brown have it easy compared to any CU coach, they barely have to leave California or Texas to recruit. Being successful at CU is hard work; harder than sitting in Dove Valley thinking up offensive plays.

Shanny down fall was when he got full control, he lost focus on what he does best and that is coaching and offensive play calling. His last few yrs in Denver his play calling became so predictable and his personal in the draft was confusing....I think he could make it work at CU, if he surrounds himself with personal that can recruit. Shanny can focus on in state talent and the 4 and 5 star players.....but it wont matter, because we will win the North and Hawkins will save his ass once again....GO BUFFS!!

Am I the only one who sees what McDaniels is doing with the Broncos and is questioning whether we really want Shanahan as our coach?

good point, but remember that this team (Broncos) has 53 new roster players that were not with the team last yr...but McDaniels is doing one hell of a job

Which begs the question as to why, when Shanny was the GM, didn't he make similar changes when he had the chance?

well he did, remember the patch work d-line from Cleveland....I just think that Shanny had lost focus on first thing first and that is coaching...and there is were McDaniels is focusing at, and the only thing he has to focus on....but as said before, have a better chance of winning the lottery then Shanny on the side lines for CU..

After watching the Chargers last night, they are gonna have a HC opening by end of year.

I say no chance at getting Shanny to CU.

I also think Juicebox is back regardless. I just don't see finding $3 mil in spare change to get rid of him.:sad1:

It takes this to get you "totally pissed with our leadership"? You got more patience then I do...

Well there is still the chance that they already have a plan in place to take care of it at the end of the season and we just dont know about it yet. But I was on the Hawk bandwagon until halftime of the CSU game and then totally fell off agaisnt Toledo.

Well, again I will point out that the Chargers have a GM that does all the player moves which is pretty much the same situation in Dallas. To me, you can strike both Dallas and SD off the list becuase of that.

So what does that leave open? When you consider that he just turned down the Skins, that tells me that just having an owner with an open checkbook isn't compelling enough. If not the Skins and free reign over Snyder's Free Agent money, then where? This is what leads me to believe that he wants to stay close to home unless someone throws an ungodly amount of money at him, and in this economy no one will do that when you can get a good up and coming assistant coach for 10 times less than what the Super Bowl winning coaches want.

With the Chargers, you have a GM calling out his players as soft. And he was the guy that picked them. If they continue to implode this year, I'm guessing the GM is gone along with the coach.

He tried. He failed. I guess that's my point. McDaniels knew exactly what kind of players he needed to do what he wanted to do and he went out and got them. Shanahan would go out and do wholesale changes that never produced anything better than the guys he had in there before.

I wouldn't say that. He did try to do the 3-4, but it was during mid-season when the personnel wasn't set there, letting NE kill us. The 3-4 was then scrapped for the remainder of the season. We were definitely going to switch to the 3-4 after the season, and a new D-Coordinator was going to be hired. However, if he got a hold of Nolan is not guaranteed. Shanny and Nolan have worked together before, and I would like to say that Nolan would've come here due to CO connections regardless of McD or Shanny. Who knows though, and McD made a great hire.

If it turns out that McD had a large part to do in every personnel hire, great, give him praise (even if that sounds Shannahan-esque), but I've got to think that Nolan played a bigger part in putting together the defense. The offense was good last year too (you can't pin the lack of running game on Shanny, since all of ours got injured). It was just the defense (who had many LB and S injuries last year too...not that excuses their performance).

I do think Shanahan would be interested in the college ranks though (remember UF?). I highly doubt that he would consider CU though - he's not an alum, his kids didn't go there (at least not Kyle), we can't pay too much, etc.

One thing about the NFL is that everybody has the same resources. Nobody has a big recruiting advantage or funding advantage over anybody else. Had Shanny fired the DC, it would have been the fifth DC in 7 years to come through Denver (or something like that).

The results are right there for everybody to see. Shanahan, post Elway, was an entirely mediocre coach. You are what your record says you are, and the Broncos were exactly .500 the last three years. That defines mediocrity. Enter McDaniels, and the Broncos are all of the sudden being mentioned as legitimate Super Bowl contenders after the first six games of the year. That's a huge turnaround. And it's not something that Shanahan couldn't have done himself had he wanted to.

Like I said originally, I guess I'm falling off the "Shanny for CU coach" bandwagon.

Shanahan post Elway was an entirely mediocre coach? There is that argument out there, as you state, that .500 is the definition of mediocrity. However, look at his body of work. We were within one atrocious game against Pitt away from another Super Bowl. They won fair and square, but we did not show up either. Indy was a thorn in our side for awhile too; those were still good teams. I still argue that last year was one of the best coaching jobs I've seen - and many media members thought so too, considering all of the injuries we had at RB, LB, S.

Yes, his offenses were not able to do what he wanted with an average QB (Griese, Plummer, etc.), and when he finally found his go-to QB, his defenses were horrible. I think he gets a lot of undue blame when certain factors were out of his control (injuries, Darrent and his death's effect on Javon) and because he set the bar so high for himself with the two Super Bowls. "couldn't have done himself had he wanted to"...Who is to say that he too wouldn't have gotten Nolan for a DC? He had turned the team around once quite nicely...who is to say that it couldn't have happened again? I too don't think we'd be 6-0 if Shanny were still here, but I do think we would have been noticeably improved.

McD is doing a great job right now, but I don't think that his performance warrants Shanahan bashing. Shanahan was a great coach, and Denver fans should be grateful for all he did...instead of downgrading his accomplishments/abilities.

If Hawk goes 4-2 or better to finish out the Big-12, it will mean the team has really bought in to what he is preaching and has made great strides. The McCartney '86 paralells will get pretty spooky if he ends up beating the Huskers after winning against Okie Lite. In my opinion, he shouldn't be fired if he goes 4-2. Continuity is valuable when it comes to building organizations and a 4-2 finish shows a great deal of improvement with a young team. 4-2 buys him a breakout year in '10 IMHO. Write it down now. ( Sunshine, on my shoulder, makes me happy!)
