The fake punt from our own end.

I couldn't see the game today but am wondering what the circumstances were in that situation. Was it like a 4th and short or something? Trying to figure out who fakes a punt from inside your own 10 and why would anyone be enticed to do that?

Believe it or not, this is the first one.
You're telling me this is the first thread to bring up the fake punt? Well I'll be.

All I can say is that is as beautiful play.......not. But then again our special teams are beautiful thing as well.....not.

pretty weird call. i was, actually, in the lamenting of bad field position in chat going to give Hawk some credit for no major bonehead calls. like the Year 1 crazy stuff that works against WAC lowtimers....but didn't work for us (minus OU 07, i guess).

then that happened. D played pretty good. too bad that was it.

It's the first thread dedicated to this topic. The team acting like they'd rather be somewhere else and the "Resurrection of Cody" overwhelmed it.

Just so it's clear, when we ran the fake punt we were inside our own 10 yard line and needed 10 yards. DiLallo ran for 8 yards.

And Behrens badly missed on a block that may have made the difference in DiLallo getting the first.

I love how you bait me with your first post, then you say how you've moved on. Shouldn't you be splitting some threads in the pub mr Admin?

I think it must be a read by the punter, not a called play. He gets it if #41 makes a block. Not that it matters; you don't run a fake punk from your own 10.

Remember how DiLallo and Hawkins were on the sideline behind the bench having a 1-on-1 chat and laughing it up earlier in the half? The next punt was the rugby style one that went nowhere (looked like an aborted fake). The one after that was the one DiLallo took off, iirc. I think you're right and Hawkins gave him the green light.

Had DiLallo gone full bore, he may have made it. He kind of tippie-toed out of the end zone like his mind wasn't made up. I didn't really mind the try. Nothing else was happening that suggested we might cut into their lead.

He was waiting for the block....

when was the last time you saw someone/anyone fake it out of their own endzone?

and with the D getting stops.

Hawk has some kind of aversion to playing field position....

I have never understood his disregard for field position. It is really quite bizarre.

So was this thing in the first half or second? I just keep hearing people say how stupid it was. If what you guys say is true, and they were talking it up on the sidelines beforehand, this sounds like one of the biggest bohnhead plays of the Hawk era.

I assume it lead to a Kstate TD after that?

And why do I get the impression that Valdez is trying to put out fires again after this loss? It seems like he tries to squash every negative thread after a horrible loss.
