Fun with depth charts

The new depth chart is out.

Josh Hartigan is on the chart at DE, backing up Herrod.

Conrad Obi's a tackle now, third string.

Two true freshman only listed players at right DE.

Ray Polk is the starting free safety.

... and on offense: Will Jefferson has jumped Espinoza on the WR depth chart and Miller starts at right tackle.

Obi is third team DT? What the hell? Does he show up at practice stoned or something? What is going on with this guy? Does anybody know? I can't get over the fact that this kid was a 4* coming out of high school, redshirted, and then got passed by a bunch of Freshmen before he was moved from DE to DT, where he's now 3rd string. Talk about a disappointment. I would love for somebody to tell me what is going on there.

My guess is Josh Hartigan will be a pass rush specialist. Probably not a bad move against Mizzou and a gimpy Gabbert.

I like the moves. Positionally, we get much faster and more athletic with Obi as a DT instead of a DE and Hartigan as a DE instead of a LB. We need to get faster and a great way to do it is through these types of position switches. I really commend the coaching staff on these moves. The next one I'd like to see is that Mahnke is going to pack on 10-20 lbs and become an OLB for next season.

One concern I have is that we don't know how either of these guys will work out (and Goree looks like a bust right now). Bandison has said the targeted number of scholarships dedicated to D-Line is 12. With Cunningham, Pericak, Bonsu, Obi, Goree and Lawson returning at DT (6) and Herrod, Kasa, West and Hartigan returning at DE (4)... we would only have room for 2 scholarships this cycle. I would like to see 3, if not 4.

He hasn't been bringing his horns

Only if he ever plays... I need to know what's going on with this kid, too. He passed on SEC schools to play DE for us, and he's played 19 snaps this season. My guess: homesick. Or Hawksick.

We no longer have 4 co-1st team RBs.

Goodman in now our backup punter.

And pardon me if I'm not thrilled about having to move 6'1" 230 Hartigan to DE - way too small for a DE IMO.

I cant remember **** today, rough day but who was the player in the GB days that was about 230 and a beast at DE??? Got in trouble and had to leave, but, plays (played?) for the Chargers and was from Grand Junction I think??

Marques Harris? That right? Wasnt he about this size but his speed made him nearly unblockable

Right, Harris. I forget his trouble but I think he had some ankle or knee issues as well. From GJ and played LB and special teams with the Chargers.

Yep, just like Jesse Nading.

The other side is mostly manned by Beatty.

So we have 3 DEs and a LBer?

I don't really hate how they're trying to go fast on defense, in fact I love it. However, we must also have some regular DE types so that when, for example, a Kansas State rolls up on us with a regular running game and crams it down out throat.

Now that I'm writing that it occurs to me that KSU really didn't do that great on offense. We could've done better to stop the run, but what lost us that game was ST and our offense being the immovable object. Maybe it's just the lack of depth that worries me.

Too bad, as Legrone Shields learned, we run a 3-4 or 3-3-5, so the only time we use 2 DE's is in goal line...

If you're going by the participation report they put up on the CU Buffs website you should be skeptical, it's full of errors every week. They listed Derrick Webb as the starting center for like 3 weeks in a row and DJ Dykes played some QB last year.

I know some players have duplicate numbers, but someone in the AD has to catch that.

haha awesome. I just checked the statistics page and he's not in there. Looks to be a mistake.

No. But, we did play Nobriga. Is that new?

Damn right that's new. Can someone confirm? Is there a link to a list of who played in the game? I'm shocked that Nobriga's playing when Major and Mohler aren't seeing the field.

Yea Marques Harris was a great DE even though he was pretty small. I remember seeing him in Will Vill when I lived there. He dated a girl I knew, don't think he raped her though. Anyways, he transferred to a small Utah school, then played for the Chargers. I remember him getting a sack in a game in garbage time. He signed a 1 year deal with the 49ers this year.

Marques was another victim of the media vultures. His name got published in relation to the recruiting party but there was clear evidence that he was not there and had nothing to do with it, it didn't matter he became identified as one of the "rapist" and then they went looking for other stuff on him. He had some stuff that would probably apply to about 80% of the students on campus but he ended up having to leave. Went to Utah State, then to the Chargers. Got hurt and went to SF. Got cut this week after playing mainly specials this season.

No, as I recall Marques was at the "party." Take that for what it is worth. Monteilh was the person wrongfully identified as being at the "party."

I was taking generous breaks at work to follow the game on Yahoo and Darden ended up in the box score. Definite WTF moment.

I checked the official game notes on the cubuffs.com main site.

Darden was not listed among the participants in the KSU game. His redshirt appears to be in tact.

However, Liloa Nobriga was listed as having played. For some reason and despite all the linebackers we have this year, the coaching staff thought it was a good idea to burn his redshirt. I'm guessing Special Teams? Did anyone notice or has it DVR'd so they can confirm where/when #48 played?

those game notes are often wrong. Interns have a pretty rough job getting all those #s right I guess.
