What do we have to look forward to?

Looking forward, beyond this year...

I really could see CU being at a bit of a crossroads here. Most, if not all, teams go through down periods. We are not, and are never going to be, a perennial national championship contender.

At this point in the Hawkins era, I expected the team to be ranked. Hell, when he was hired, I even bought into the top 10 BCS contender crap. Obviously, that has not become reality.

I guess my question is, when can we even expected this team to be ranked again? We were for one week in 2005 before our well-documented meltdown, but haven't been since.

No one with realistic expectations can really think that we are going to be in BCS bowls or beating Texas every other year or anything of that nature. But that doesn't neccessarily mean that we can't at least be competitive and respectable.

I think Hawkins has made it abundantly clear that he is not the answer here. I have 0 expectations of CU football even being mediocre until he is shown the door. All I am looking forward to is the inevitability that he is out of here, be it at the end of the season, the end of next year, or (worst case scenario) the end of 2012.

I think spending 4-5+ years in the absolute basement of the Big 12 could really have long term ramifications. How many non-Colorado kids are watching cfb on television and saying "I really want to play there"? Personally, I think the appeal of Boulder should always attract some out of state kids, particularly from California. I do not think, however, that that is going to get it done as far as bringing in the Texas kids and the southern kids.

For whatever reasons, after Mac left, we really didn't capitalize on all the momentum that winning a NC should generate. At this point, we are down right bad. So what is going to change that?

I am concerned that we are approaching permanently-rebuilding status.

College games tonight...with some teams that are well-coached....

f baseball, it's almost as boring as bowling and golf

we have nothing to look forward to, except one more losing season under hawkins. then, if bohn takes some head coach hiring class, maybe hope.

all of these same q's were asked after the CF era and during the beginning of the BM era.

its a mixture of things. part of it is catching lightening in a bottle with a coach. such as getting Mac here. cant tell me that there was not a bit of luck involved in that.

part if it is a natural cycle that just happens for what ever reason in college football. see miami/fsu/notre dame ect falling short. see florida/'bama/usc/texas/ou that had thier struggles over the years. see the wake forrests/oregons/mizzous/cals that have made some sort of impact on a national stage over the last few years. then you have teams like washington/tennessee/michigan that have had thier fair share of opps/palm face moments recently.

its gonna come and go. CU is down in china town right now (what ever that means....)

CU needs some luck. a great hire, someone tripping over thier dick in the south for whatever reason and most improtantly someone who can cheat and not get caught. f in a.

hey I like golf.. :smile2:

forgot one: world series of poker.. see if phil ivey can beat those amateurs in two weeks..

Time to get excited about that other college team we like to follow (whoever it may be) because there is nothing to look forward to in Boulder and there won't be as long as the status quo is maintained.

I love college football in general so I always have that. And the surprisingly good season by the Broncos is certainly helping.

maybe Mac can take a position free from Bohn, or under Bohn but with some powers to hire and fire as Chief of Football Operations. I think someone else has already brought this up, but I think its a good idea.

I don't really buy into the idea that we can't have one of the best teams in the nation. Certainly we don't have the resources or fertile recruiting grounds or even top notch tradition, but like someone already said, we just need one of those coaching hires that is an actual home run.

Let's just assume for a second that Mac doesn't leave so early, if he had stayed for another 10 years or so, we easily would've stayed competing for titles and going on championship runs imo. Rick, Gary and Dan have all taken what he built and each driven it into the ground more and more. We just need to start over and hope for another home run.

I agree. Right now I'd be happy with a double, maybe even a base hit instead of the strikeout we currently have.:sad2:
