Brian Kelly: INTENSE AND PASSIONATE on sideline which is complete opposite of Talkins

Kelly is exactly the type of coach that this program needs.. Sick of this passive, Hawk love crap from Talkins..

Kelly isn't afraid to get in players faces when they screw up and coach them up on the sideline.. When our players do dumb crap, Talkins just claps his hands like a clown..

God love you...right on the money...and, Kelly knows football. Even though he can delegate, he is engaged....did you see him in the face of his assistant coaches? Hawk is a mindless boob (sorry, DBT, but that is the reality).

Yeah, Talkins probably tells Riddle he's "Awesome" after every special teams play regardless if its bad or good (when is it ever good on special teams?)

Kelly is the type of hands on coach that CU desperately needs..

Too bad he is more than likely going to end up at the "Golden Dome" (and I don't mean the capitol building in Denver)

Slow your roll there JB. I like Kelly and would be VERY excited to have him as the coach at CU, but saying that a "screamer" is the answer is wrong. Have you seen South Florida coach, Jim Leavitt? That dude is intense. Great passion, and a good coach. But they went to Rutgers last night, and despite him jumping up and down, they got blown out 31-0. A firey sideline coach isn't the end all, be all.

I would argue that Jim Leavitt is getting the most out of his talent....I will take emotion any day of the week versus the rusted stump that is Danny....

They were ranked in the top 25 and got BLOWNOUT/SHUTOUT against an unranked team. I agree that he is a good coach. My point is that a screaming, passionate coach doesn't necessarily mean he wants to win more, or WILL win more.

Have to agree with that...I've seen more than a couple CO's in my time who were like that, and their crew's morale, and thus the performance of the entire boat was crap!

A cross between Hawk and a screamer is the best combo for Boulder - I'll admit I haven't been watching the game tonight, but maybe BK is that guy.

A screamer(which I did not say Kelly was) is a lot better than some clown that just stands on the sideline with no emotion like Talkins does..

BTW, Jim Leavitt record vs Talkins record at CU isn't comparable..

True...I am only saying that perhaps they have been a bunch of over-achievers, with Leavitt the reason for their success...they were exposed last night. I don't know that the loss was because Leavitt is an emotional coach....

With all due respect (in light of DBT's recent posts :smile2:) ... there is another side to this.

I recall that in 1997 Skippy the Neu got all over John Hessler on the sideline during the game in Ann Arbor (I was there BTW ... as I was in '94 for the "Miracle in Michigan" ... although for that one I was still a Michigan fan as a long time resident of the Ann Arbor area, thus I have the distinction of having been on the losing side for ALL of the CU-UM battles in the 90's ... but I digress ).

Anyway ... I recall thinking that Neu really ****ed up berating a kid DURING a game ... and I also recall others saying the same thing in the press and in letters to the Camera and the Denver papers (I wasn't on any BBSs at the time ... hell .. I hardly knew what the interwebs were back then ). It seemed to me to be counterproductive for Slick to be in Hessler's face when he ****ed up against what was a very good Michigan defense that year (you may remember that UM shared the MNC that year, largely because of their D).

Hess was a kid who had performed so well for us in '95 when Koy went down ... then sat on the bench for virtually all of '96 without complaint .. but after that game in Ann Arbor I don't know if he ever really got his confidence back.

So ... just sayin'.

It all depends on the coach and the player and how their relationship stands. Saban ripped Julio Jones apart for a 12-man-on-the-field call making on a 4th down play (or was it a 2pt conversion) against LSU. A few plays later and Jones takes a WR screen to the house. Saban gets the most of his players and he gets in their faces.

Slick Rick doesn't seem to have that charisma to rip into his player and have his guy play even stronger the next time he's out there.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but it all depends on how much a player respects and loves his coach. The same can be said for everyone on the team.

Re: Brian Kelly: INTENSE AND PASSIONATE on sideline which is complete opposite of Tal

Saban made a DT, who he drafted in the supplemental draft, cry when he coached for the Dolphins, he never recovered  wasted 4th round pick god d*****. I think a mix is the best, not one who is just out of control yelling all the time, but not Hawk and his happily clapping whenever we're losing 60-0 is not the answer either. Kelly seemed to let his players know that they screwed up, but was equally happy when they did well. We'd be lucky to get Kelly, but he's coaching himself right into a premium job like ND.

I'm right there with you. Grew up in Ann Arbor, and then went to CU, graduating high school in the spring of '96.

Re: Brian Kelly: INTENSE AND PASSIONATE on sideline which is complete opposite of Tal

I am all for going after a guy like Kelly -- but I would be absolutely shocked if Colorado could land him (or a coach like him).

I have said it before and I'll say it again - I think the best CU can hope for is to give a top flight BCS coordinator a shot.

Re: Brian Kelly: INTENSE AND PASSIONATE on sideline which is complete opposite of Tal

Agreed, I think Kelly is out of our league. ND will pay him and pay him generously. We might have a small shot at Patterson, but we'll have to get a coordinator or a HC at a really small school.

The man is intense. Some guys would die for him and others aren't up to task. I wouldn't like a guy like him here, but it works for him at Bama. People know what they are getting themselves into with Saban. The media here would chew him up, even if he won a MNC.
