Colorado:
Our source has confirmed that Head Coach Dan Hawkins will be given a buyout and not retained at the end of the season.

Sad, if true. I really wanted it to work out for Coach Hawkins. This season has been a disaster.

Yesterday it wasn't there.

I feel bad for Hawk because Hawk is such a good guy and he tried.

However, it's for the better if true, it is just not working and isn't going to work.

Time to move on.

If the decision is made, why wait to fire him?

Kind of a tough situation as they were away this week. The team plane probably hasn't even left for Boulder yet, and it's the weekend so we may not hear anything official until Monday. Then they've got to figure out how things are gonna work in the interim (Cabral) and he says goodbye to the players and cleans out his desk and all that. Course, if what we're hearing is true, there's a short turnaround before another road game on five days' rest so for continuity's sake (good or bad), maybe the AD doesn't strike so quickly to shuffle things around before then.

It is sad. It was extremely sad for the first 30 minutes of the CSU game.

I said then he had to earn back my respect, but he definitely could earn back my respect.

I'm done.

Bring on a new coach.

I say keep him on board to finish out the season if he wants to but just announce that they will have a new coach next year. Hawk gave it a good shot but it just didnt work. If he would have resigned after the Toledo game I would have respected him and felt bad for him but with him staying on I feel like he is just stealing from the University by not living up to being worth what he is getting paid.

At any rate, it is time for a new guy to get a shot.

LOL

If I was in Hawk's position I'd take the money. Either way you are out of a job, so I'd rather have the 3M I was guaranteed. I'd consider him to be an absolute fool to give up that much change. Let's just pay him and move on. We are going to take a financial hit, but if we don't the financial hit will be bigger than before.

Thems the breaks.

That site isn't breaking any news.

They're just trying to be the first to call news that most people expect. Tommy West being fired was expected, they just "called it" and put it on their site and then it happened. Everybody knows Chuck Amato won't be retained next season. Everybody knows Steve Kraglethorpe & his staff is going to be fired at Louisville.

They're jumping the gun to be first on the story to boost their legitimacy.

The season is over in terms of going to a Bowl, but no move should be made until after the Cornholio game. Then he should be fired Franchione-style.

I hope so. My dad thinks Hawk will be back next year, and I said no way. We made a friendly wager. If Hawk is back, we won't get season tickets. If we have a new coach he is buying the season tickets. It was a no lose for me.:smile2: Let's make it official!

loose ends, mostly. (And I'm not saying the decision HAS been made, but hypothetically, if it as been made) reasons not to let him go today:

In the middle of recruiting, for one thing. Have visits scheduled for NU game ... need to have people in place. He's still a good closer with recruits.

They still have to finish out two games, why disrupt whatever system is in place now by throwing in an assistant? And until they know WHO is going to replace him, to CU's advantage to keep Hawkins in place until they have the guy they want and have figured out how to pay him and fill the buyout.

They have a year-end banquet Thanksgiving weekend, awkward to have the players there with an interim coach, and then have to invite your back-up quarterback's parents ... can't exactly exclude them, etc.

Probably just nice and neater to wait until first of December.
*IF* he's gone, which is still a big IF.
