Dennis Erickson (Arizona State): 19-15, 1/3 winning seasons, 0-1 bowl record, 0 conference shampionships.

Ralph Friedgen (Maryland): 65-43, 5/9 winning seasons, 4-2 bowl record, 1 conference championships.

Al Groh (Virginia): 59-51, 5/9 winning seasons, 3-2 bowl record, 0 conference champhionsips.

Dan Hawkins (Colorado): 16-31, 0/4 winning seasons, 0-1 bowl record, 0 conference championships.

Steve Kragthorpe (Louisville): 15-19, 0/3 winning seasons, 0 bowl games, 0 conference championships.

Rich Rodriguez (Michigan): 8-15, 0/2 winning seasons, 0 bowl games, 0 conference championships.

Charlie Weis (Notre Dame): 35-24, 4/5 winning seasons, 1-2 bowl games, 2 BCS bowl games.

Ron Zook (Illinois): 21-37, 1/5 winning seasons, 0-1 bowl record, 0 conference championships.

Fridge should be removed from that list, Maryland football has been completely irrelevant for years before him and now everyone is upset because of 2 mediocre seasons.

I'd say RichRod at Michigan has been a bigger failure, he took a program with a great tradition and has buried it through his changes.

I can no longer say say anything negative about Hawkins for Pissbomber might get on me and recruits wont want to come here.

I'm kind of surprised no one has said Kragthorpe. He took over a program that was expected to finish in the Top 10 his first year.

I put Zook.
The guy has recruited lights out at two different BCS schools as HC and has nothing to show for it at either place.

This is a good thread. It reminds me there is worse out there than Dan Hawkins

I would say Kragthorpe. Most of his stay he's been in an easier conference than the rest (Big East is better this year, though...), took over a better program than just about any of them, and has been absolutely awful. He was also on my wish list when we hired Hawk (as was Hawk...) Hawk would be my runner up, though...

Friedgen has probably been the worst this year. And Weis deserves honorable mention for managing to suck at Notre Dame over a sustained period of time. That's hard to do with their resources...

I included him because he is on the hot seat. Totally a case of a guy being the victim of his own success, imo. Those first 3 years he had at Maryland were probably the best stretch in the program's history.

Most people probably wouldn't even be able to tell you who Dan Hawkins was, and who he coaches. That is how Hawkins has made CU fall in the public eye. No one knows we're here anymore.

Why am I actually surprised Hawkins got so many votes? I hate losing as much as anybody but there are far better options on the list. Charlie Weis was given keys to the kingdom and can't win. ND has every advantage in the world and should never be where he has brought that program, especially this year.

Some pretty good candidates on there. Weis is doing less with more quite well. Hawk was just massive fail for 4 years. Kragthorpe took a good team and they are now garbage. I'm surprised Erickson isn't doing a lot better at ASU. Groh is a lot like Hawk, except he had some good seasons. Zook and Rich Rod sure have gone downhill. Zook is just not a very good coach imo, great recruiter though. Rich Rod installing the zone option is just a huge fail so far at Michigan. Why they felt the need to get him when Lloyd Carrs players were always the standard Michigan types. Not good fits for Rich Rod's system.

I went with Hawk because as far as I know none of those coaches have lost to anyone near the quality of Toledo or Montana State. Weis losing twice to Navy is pretty bad though.

Hawk, because the guys closest to him on the hot seat have all accomplished something at least (10 win season - erickson. BCS bowl - Weis. etc.)

Here is a True Story (I heard from a friend who reads the internet)

PissBomber has has insider information, eats lunch with Mike Bohn and knows Dan Hawkins underwear preference.
