If Bohn Is Really Waiting To See What Happens These Last Two Games He's An Idot

What good are these last two games going to prove ?
They don't mean jack schidt other than beating a NU team you never want to lose to.

4 straight losing seasons-
2-19 on the road-
a team that looks just as bad as it did 4 yrs ago- I've seen no improvement in that time span-

seriously - these last two games shouldn't be the deciding factor
the last 47 should be :sad1:

I think that is all chatter.... there is no way that these 2 games make or break Hawkins.

Bohn is making this decision based on many other factors.

I just find it humorous that since the Toledo loss, every game there has been a thread that says... "If Hawk wins out....."

i bet you that thread will be posted tomorrow after we lose...

IF HAWK BEATS NEBRASKA.........

we are a bad football team under Dan Hawkins. if we fluke a win against NU then I don't see that as the critical difference for this team.

OK State will name the score tonight.

But we shut okie st out last time we were in Stillwater. This shoudl be an easy win IMO.

Woody points out the DiStefano is a homer for Hawkins. That could be the obstacle.

He also mentioned that Benson is not happy but he's in a pickle because of the state funding issue and the appearance that a buyout will have in front of the tax payer. Damned if you, damned if you don't (decline in ticket sales) type of predicament. Think about this; $180,000,000 in HE funding cuts of which about $22,000,000 is for CU versus a few hundred thousand to maybe a $1,000,000 loss in ticket sales. What would you do? Do you risk agitating the tax payer and tipping the Governors hand for further cuts?

I think Bohn has already concluded that he wants to make a change. He may still wrestling with getting his bosses approval to terminate him. He is not an island unto himself. After being Tharpedoed I'd guess that Bohn does not have as much discretion as previous AD's did and Academia has more oversight.

As well he could still be lining up the money. If you announce the end early then in peoples mind its a done deal and they think funding is there. So why help? We all know they have to borrow the money. If you prolong the pain, and I think they will until after NU, then people, certain boosters in particular, might open their check books because they can't stand it anymore.

There are 3 scenarios:
1. He has made the decision to fire Hawkins and the last two games don't matter. He just wants to let the season finish before announcing it so that the team doesn't "give up" for the last two.
2. He is waiting to see how we perform in the last two before making a decision.
3. He has decided to retain Dan for another year and is hoping the last two games gives him ammo to argue his decision.

4. The decision is out of his hands and comes down to money and politics.

FIFY

If the buyout money is there via private donations, as has been widely reported, I don't understand what CU's finances / politics have to do with anything.

Bensons trying to get the governor to agree to free him up to increase revenue. Ritter says he will veto any deal that raises tuition or increases the percentage of out of state students (currently 33% capped). Bruce's hands are tied and he's had to reduce staffing and services on all campuses. He did recently have international students reclassified so they don't count towards out of state population though they pay out of state tuition. There will be little to no financial aid next fall.

Firing Hawkins in this political climate and using more general fund revenue for a buyout might make it harder for the Governor and the Legislature to help CU's revenue woes. Unless the termination money comes from private sources.

He is gone. His performance the last two games just determine whether it will be gone tomorrow, or gone after *ebraska. But either way, he is done.

I totally agree, but I'm sure they're concerned about the perception that it would give the state legislature.

Laughable that in 2005 we beat OSU 35-0 on the road. We certainly are NOT better off today with Hawk as coach than we were then. That alone should be reason to fire Hawk.

Agreed. A coach should get 3-5 seasons to turn a program around, as long as he is showing improvement over the course of his tenure. As others have stated, things have not improved... the one real bright spot looks to be that Tyler Hansen seems to be a legit QB (sadly enough though, he has had 2 seasons of eligibility essentially wasted). But besides that, things have not improved at all and this is year 4. He has his players in, he has had time to install his system (whatever that might be.) He still hasn't gotten it done. It's definitely time for a change... just hope that the money is there.

I'm not sure that game is a good barometer. Okie lite had hired Gundy before that season and they were completely revamping their offense. Their qb that year was marginal, at best, in the passing game.

Toledo was revamping their offense. We didn't quite beat them 35-0. The point is, we don't beat anyone 35-0 on the road anymore, hell we don't even win unless it's a 35-34 win.

I believe you meant OSU, but Toledo is an example of a team changing it's offense, under a first year coach to boot. Toledo whipped CU. I shudder to think what a non-first year coach with athletes does to Danny's sandcastle on the road...

EDIT: nevermind, my reading comprehension is apparently in the toilet...had a root canal yesterday, still not thinking real clear...

 all good.

It's all about the perception of Joe Colorado. It doesn't matter if the money comes from a monkey's butt, the average Colorado taxpayer will see an employee of a public institution receiving a wind-fall, and the politicians will fall in line.
