Goodman's hitting the uprights

I don't know if there is a stat where they keep track of this, but he has to own the record for most FGs hitting the uprights in a college career. That has to be coming close to 10 times he has done this now and I know if he were trying to do it, he never would. Amazing how often he does this!

Maybe he should aim at the upright.

Someone on Rivals said he's hit the upright 7 times.

Seven.

If it weren't for bad luck...

I was putting money down with the people sitting around me at the a&m game that goodman was going to hit the uprights each time he went out there for a FG.

I lost. But I still think it was a solid bet.

It is uncanny how often he hits that skinny frickin' pole. I always thought he should start trying to hit them so maybe he would get more through.

I was telling someone last night that if you asked to hit the upright he would miss it every time. But ask him to make it between the uprights and he hits those f-ing things at an amazing clip.

Anyone remember the Drew Litton cartoon when Karlis, I think, was the Bronco's kicker? He'd been hitting uprights all year. So Litton had a 'toon of him lining up for the kick with the goal posts in front of him. But instead of two uprights, there were, like, 6 evenly spaced. Kind of like one of those 'fro combs.

I cannot remember a time when the total kicking game sucked at the school. I thought we **** punters in Boulder to begin with? If Penn State was Linebacker U then Colorado should be Punter U.

It is tough to watch, I expect a miss FG or a lame punt...it is driving me nuts!

Coach Mac focused on the kicking game, it was not an after-thought. That's why we had all of those great punters - Helton, Rouen, English, Berger

Yeah. I that snapped into my head too. Wonder what Rich is up to these days.

I have to disagree a little, he didn't focus on it! Those guys were just good, and put in a tremendus amount of time on their own, supported each other and help each other through tough spots.

That's wrong, he believed in the kicking game as being key to the overall success of the program. I find it hard to believe that these 4 guys on their own were that good without any coaching.

Wrong Really? They prcticed kicking 5 minutes a day per special team and there was not a kicking coach, other then Hank, and he was good at saying "good kick" or "bad kick"! Sometimes what people say and do are two different things. Its easy to say you focus on it when you have the guys to back that statement up.

OK - I'll have to defer since I was not there - I guess Mac was lying or saying what we wanted to hear.

I wouldn't say lying! But everybody says special teams is 1/3 of the game and it doesnt get 1/3 of the practice time. What's he going to say? Yeah we don't focus on it at all and these guys are good all on their own. Of course NOT! They all say what we want to hear. Bottom line is Goodman has zero coaching, and no one to keep his head straight!

For fun today, I played a Madden game and kicked a FG every time I was in range and tried to hit the posts. I hit 7/10. I'm better than Goodman.

Only seven? I would have guessed ten.

It's ****ing uncanny! Never seen anything like it. We should get points just for the incredible unliklihood of hitting the post that many times.

Also, I'm hammered.

ding-ding-ding.
You would be very close. I came up with nine. It depends of course whether you are counting only kicks that hit the uprights and miss, or all kicks that hit the uprights.

But I'm pretty sure these stats are correct:

2009 FG good: 54, 32, 20, 39, 45, 39, 48, 37, 37, 22
(one GOOD kick hit upright)
2008 FG good: 23, 32, 25, 31, 37
(two GOOD kicks hit uprights)

2009 FG misses:
47 (wide right), 40 (wide left), 45 (hit left upright), 57 (wide left), 42 (wide right), 50 (hit right upright)
2008 FG misses: 35 (wide left), 27 (wide left), 36 (wide right), 43 (left upright), 44 (wide right) , 48 (blocked), 47 (wide right), 46 (hit upright), 50 (left upright)

2009 PATs total (through OSU game): 25=26
(one XP attempt hit upright vs KSU ‘09)
2008 PAT total: 30-31 (one blocked)
Total 08-09 (through OSU game) = 55 XPs for 57 attempts

2009 10 field goals made for 16 attempts
2008 5 for 14 field goals
Total 08-09 (through OSU game) = 15 fgs for 30 attempts

Hit uprights, but good FGS: 3.
Hit uprights, missed FGs: 5
Hit uprights, missed XP: 1

As long as I was crunching the numbers, I wondered if he was pulling more often in one direction, but there's no consistency in HOW he is missing - could go either way, although he slightly favors the left upright, when he missed entirely, he favored "wide right."

Missed (that didn't hit uprights):
Wide left= 4
Wide right= 5
Missed (that DID hit uprights):
Left upright = 3
Right upright = 1
Unknown upright = 1 (news summary did not say which one he hit)
Missed (blocked) = 1
-----------------------
08-09 missed FGs = 15 of 30
------------------------------
Total attack on uprights = 9 hits in 2 years (including 3 good ones, and 1 failed XP that hit upright).
