...you were right dudehead.

at the start of this season i thought we were going to take a "POUND IT" attitude onto the field and slam the rock down some throats.

man was i wrong.

here is some "fun with statistics" through the osu game (source cubuffs.com):

NET RUSHING YARDS = 921
NET PASSING YARDS = 2,446

TOTAL OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION YARDS = 3,367

conversely, take a look at our yards lost to mistakes this year...

OFFENSE PENALTY YARDS AGAINST = 511
SACK YARDS LOST = 317
TOTAL OFFENSIVE YARDS LOST = 828

it is pretty clear that for every 4 yards gained on offense, we lose 1 yard to mistakes...

further, if you look at that with respect to backfield performance this year...

STEWART NET RUSHING YARDS = 694
OTHER BACKS NET RUSHING YARDS (EXCLUDING QB'S) = 273

TOTAL BACKFIELD NET PERFORMANCE = 967

it is clear that our yards lost to offensive mistakes pretty much negates our rushing production this year.

finally...if you look at the overall yards lost to mistakes...

DEFENSE PENALTY YARDS AGAINST = 225
ST PENALTY YARDS AGAINST = 137

TOTAL YARDS LOST = 1,190

those statistics don't account for impact during the game due to loss of field position and momentum. it is clear to me that the yards lost due to mistakes pretty much negates any chance we have of winning games.

that puts the season in perspective for me, unfortunately.

vj, you were right. i apologize. i owe you a beer at the darkhorse during the basketball season for calling you out in the preseason...

IIRC, Valdez' argument was based on the idea that these coaches don't have the ability to coach that kind of offense. We all thought, because of what we had been told BY THE COACHES, and the fact that we had a stable of big and strong offensive linemen, that we'd be pounding the ball.

We were lied to. But props to Valdez for sniffing out the lie before any of us did.

...and all i am really apologizing for is not recognizing vj's nostradamic-like talents...
Wow. I'm right on one thing and I'm Nostradamus?

I've learned so much about football on this board from you guys it's not even funny. If I can make it to the kNU game, I'll be sure to bring you guys some brews.
