"When I came to Colorado there were a lot of guys going, 'Don't go there, man, are you
kidding me? Don't go there,'" (hawkins).

i bet those were the same guys telling him he was a great coach and he was doing a great job earlier this year. told you guys he wasn't such a great guy

I'm afraid you'll see more of this. If anything doesn't go right, I get the feeling it's never Dan's fault. It will always be someone else, in this case CU....

Thought this would be a thread about your fans. Instead it's about your deadman walking coach. Looks like Big Red will get yet another fired!!

I did not undertand what you wrote until I read the whole article.

To me, that quote has to be taken into context that 4 years ago, there WERE recruting restrictions, and the administration wanted a "clean" program above all. I do not doubt one bit that "people" told him at the time, that he was setting himself up for failure because he was not playing on a level playing field with the rest of the Big 12.

That is what makes this so troubling. There will be many that says he is a crappy head coach. His record prior to CU does not indicate that at ALL.

He has made mistakes here that probably will cost him his job.... but to be so bitter about him and say that he can't coach... the facts don't support that.

well... start listing those that the "Big Red" got fired..

can we start that list with:

Frank Solich?
Bill Callahan?

It's a pretty odd thing to say.. we don't really care if Hawk believes in Colorado anymore, we care that Colorado doesn't believe in Hawk. Sorry Dan, we just don't believe anymore. I think he's a good guy and won't go all Tommy West on us when he leaves, but things like this are oddly placed. Hawk isn't an idiot and can be pretty choice with his words.

i don't care if people told him not to take the job. the fact that he did and says "well people told me the job sucked anyway" as he's about to get fired is just classless.

what facts are you talking about that don't support him being a bad coach? have you seen the buffaloes the last 4 years? most people believe it was koetter that built boise state and peterson that brought it so much success. i don't know how you can argue otherwise

And CU's HC is still not playing on a level playing field; look at the admissions window. Kids don't get in here that probably would get into every other B12 school except Texas.

The truth in the above statement may hinge on who the next hire is and how much success he has.

I'm pretty sure that the first 11 games this year sealed Hawks fate, but I understand your need for approval and sense of self-worth, so go on believing that your team had something to do with it.

Um, isn't it pretty common knowledge that it was Barnett that told him that?

4 years ago, I would agree with Barnett - this was a program at the crossroads. That's why I refuse to say a bad word about Hawkins besides it's best that we all move on. He brought us back out of the shadows of the scandel but he hasn't been able to establish a winning program. For that he needs to go.

DH knows he has lost his job...I would love nothing more than to see the Boise state DH come out, throw everything at them, put 60 on 'em (again), and end his career in the Black n Gold with a HUGE win. The stage is set for this one to be big. I don't like DH as our HC, but I wish him the best elsewhere and would be happy to see the season end with a new HC and a huge win over the fuskers.

I really hope we pound the **** out of them fuskers..and hawky doesnt try to get cute with some ****y play calling and get's us beat :blah:

I must be in the "least people beleive" category.....

Dan Hawkins was the head coach and responsible for Peterson. Please don't tell me that Peterson was THE coach and Dan was the figurehead. Dan's job as HEAD coach is to coordinate his assistants and oversee the programs. Peterson certainly falls UNDER that job description. So if you will give credit to Peterson, then you HAVE to give more credit to Dan.

Secondly, surely you arent suggesting that Koetter basically carried his assistant Dan Hawkins throught his career? Koetter's stint at ASU wasn't that successful... so maybe it was Dan that carried him.

My "secondly" paragraph is facetious.

In summary, Dan has good coaching credentials and I don't believe that you can call him a bad coach. His resume says otherwise. He clearly was not successful at Colorado from a won-loss standpoint and he will pay for that. I beleive that the order of his priorities were not the same order as the fans.... and he will pay for that. I also believe that he had a dream of seeing his kid play every game in Boulder..... and he will pay for that as well.

Dan Hawkins will pay for those mistakes by losing his job in the near future. But to say he is not a good coach is mistaken.

GB told Hawk to chase his dream

I don't know if I buy that. I really don't have a clue about what does get in or what doesn't, but from what I've seen, it seems like Hawk and staff recruit a lot of questionable kids. Recruits that other schools shy away from due to their grades. Nuckols was a pretty example of that, apparently he had some pretty bad grades and that's why the big offers weren't coming. We swooped in and told him to work on it and it'd all work out. It didn't and that's nobodies fault, but the coaches.

I get that it sucks that we can't recruit just anyone, but it seems like the staff doesn't really know what is or isn't required to get in and just recruit anyone. There's a lot of guys we have this year that grades have come up as an issue, yet we're recruiting them anyway.

I don't really know who is responsible for the success Boise has had lately, nor do I care. Koetter and Hawk have both failed miserably at the two big time programs they have been at. Playing against Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, A&M, OSU, etc. just isn't the same as playing against the Nevadas and New Mexicos of the world. Is he a good coach? Sure, just not at our school I guess? I doubt he'd be successful anywhere in a BCS conference, maybe a Washington State type deal, but that's not even likely. I hope he gets another chance someday to prove people like me wrong, it just shouldn't be here.

Hawk was confused by this and thought it meant, "You should go to a New Mexican sweat lodge to gain insight". Naturally, Hawk didn't have time to do that, so he assumed GB meant don't go there. Now had GB said, "Follow your bliss...", Hawk would have understood....
