2010 Captains

Since this year is now in the rear view mirror. Thought I would take a look at next year already.

With Riar's comments about not being ready for the CSU game I really think we needed more fire from the captains this year.

Next year's captains could be interesting.

My three would be: Scotty, B.J. Beatty & Jimmy Smith.

looks good to me.

Scotty's an obvious choice.

I think you've got to consider Herrod, too.

true. if Jimmy stays (small probability) he will def be a captain, he was already the guy trying to get the team fired up late in games. He acted like a leader. Never saw our "captains" do that this year.

Smith is not going anywhere early. His tackling is too poor to be an early pick. If he learns to put a shoulder into someone and wrap up he will play on Sundays after the 2010 season.

Yep, if you want to tackle like Deion, you better be able to cover like Deion to play in the league. Jimmy isn't quite there yet...

I know it may not be popular, but I would have no problem with Cody as a Captain(NOT a starter). He is a solid emotional leader and knows his stuff.

I've got no problem with anyone the players want to vote in as their captains. It would be unusual to pick a backup, though.

Cody will be voted one of the captains. I'm pretty sure of that.

Outside of that, I'm guessing Beatty and Herrod, though McKnight and Smith have a shot at it too.

I like all those choices!! We just need someone who will light a fire every now and then!! Cody will be a good captain!!

Dont they traditionally give it to an offensive, defensive and ST player? If thats the case I dont know if you could give it to Cody over Scotty, but thats just me.

I think Marquez also would be a great choice. I would have zero problem with Cody earning it though.

Honestly I wouldn't either. I think Cody is a great kid and I'm sure he will lead off the field even if he doesn't get to play. He is just a youngster and has been through a lot. =)

No way he grades out to a first day pick. He showed that he can do well, but I remember him hitting numerous guys and not wrapping up because he would go for the big hit. Sometimes he'd even whiff. The guy is definitely good, but isn't in the same league as our last 2nd round CB, TWheat. Another year under Brown and as the SS CB and he'll be ready.
