If I were Hawkins

I'd shut my ****ing pie hole and stop saying "we really are" or "I really do." I hate phrases like that. He needs to shut his mouth and start getting and actiung serious. He needs to just shut up and focus on how to get better. I think he has it in him and I've put my rep on the line to stand up for him.

I interupt this message to say that Jeremy Boom was just named as number 19 in the "Sexiest Men in Sports" on the TV Guide Channel. I was voted number 164 in sexiest anonymous posters on sports boards, conincidentaly.

Back to my thread. I cannot believe that Dan Hawkins cannot coach. I also believe he has a certain charisma that will attract kids here. But he'll never attract the big boys unless he shows that he can win. One of my worries is that, because of the year he had this year, he will lose yet another year in the recruiting battle. He really needed a good year to start turning heads, and he didn't have it. I worry that our recruiting gap will grow because of this year. This makes it CRITICAL that we turn it around next year. And I think we will.

He wouldn't be as universally disliked if he would take responsibility for what is happening on his watch.

Thing is, I think he does take responsiblity. He just has this manner of speaking that comes across like he doesn't. I think it has to do with that "Power of Positive Thinking" thing. Maybe he needs an advisor, kind of like Presidents have. He needs some guy who knows how to do damage control. You'd think Plati and/or Bohn would do that, wouldn't you?

Exactly. My biggest complaint isn't the losing (well it probably is, but let me finish my point) it is that he disregards losing and acts like he's not responsible or it's not a big deal because we almost won.

I agree with your first paragraph. I think showing a little fire, a little indication that he feels like losing is losing, no matter how "close" you might come to winning, would give people a lot more faith that things are going to get fixed. Right now he just gives off way too much of an "oh well, what can you do?" vibe much of the time.

Of course, I'm skeptical that you would actually shut your pie hole, no matter who you were.... :smile2: And I'm not even going to ask why you are watching TV Guide's sexiest men alive, when there is football on. NTTAWWT...

If he would just say "The fans have been super supportive since I've been here, but I haven't held up my end of the bargain so far, but I will do everything in my power to do so..." I would at least feel like he acknowledges that there are problems that need to be fixed.

Along with Woody's spot on article on his vocabulary, one thing I can't stand is his soft statements, specifically the "kind of" crap. We just kind of need to improve the running game, etc. Be effing assertive coach! The running game has been an issue and we need to address it yesterday!
Try something like that.

:yeahthat:

And stop acting so happy-go-lucky and golly gee, we're just gonna keep working and get this thing done.

He needs to lose all the "awesomes" too.

Everything is "awesome this" or "awesome that" ... my god, he sounds like a CU freshman, not a 40-some year old head coach.

If he would talk more like an adult, he might command a little more respect from the fans, and his players.

And that would be awesome. :smile2:

Like I stated in another thread, all dan had to do was say " Myself and our coaching staff need to do a better job, we didn't get it done and that's my fault"

But as you stated DBT, that won't happen due to his positive thinking mantra and that gives off the impression that he's an excuse maker and not accountable for himself.

I have zero faith in this guy and don't need to, it's his job to prove to buff fans he can get it done and until that time if ever, he deserves the doubt from fans.

This will be a very long off-season and he along with bohn will load up the PR spin and people will be throwing up state-wide.

FWIW, I voted you #2 sexiest anonymous sports poster behind (both literally and figuratively) Junction.

I don't think he will ever change the way he speaks and how he comes off...firstly, HE thinks he's great, so why change anything and secondly, HE thinks he's great, so why change anything?, etc., etc.

He bugs me...I can not stand to listen to him.

I think people would tolerate him a lot easier if he came out like Weis did when he said 6-5 is not good enough....not good enough for ND and not good enough for me. If Hawkins came out and said you "you know what 3-9 is not acceptable at CU and I won't accept it and I am going to figure out how to get it fixed"....rather than "you know GB burnt it to the ground so you know I am just trying to win in spite of him and i know it happened four years ago but it was still a scandal and that is why i won three games"

I think that the money that they're saving by not buying him out, they need to invest in a PR person to coach him on his interviews and pressers.

I think he could win a lot of people back over (not all, but many) by simply "saying" the right things, versus insisting that he is "doing" the right things.

Kind of like what pelini said after they won the ****ing game. He won, and he was so pissed you would have thought they lost.

Good points by all. LBuff's point how everything being "awesome" is right on the mark. I have never heard a grown man use that word as much as Hawk does.

I would pull in a top 10 recruiting class like I promised Bohn and other donors in the middle of the season.

I think to say that Dan Hawkins regularly takes responsibility for his team's issues is a bit of a stretch.

He does quite the opposite pretty much... every time.

An expanation is probably warranted here. I was going about my remodeling project. I'm putting in baseboard. My daughter was watching some **** assed channel. I heard "Jeremy Bloom" and looed up to see this dip assed "Top Fifty" thing. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it.

It was fruit of the LOOM, not bloom .....

Maybe some of the same emotion he generated whne he exploded about the letter from a mom asking for more time off for the players.

That was a notable rant about basically nothing. Then a season like this and its all awesome, grrovy and far out.

I'm a man, i'm 40 I know about these things.

Fer chrissakes, DBT, after pumping up a 10 win season, Hawkins had the nerve to suggest that with a few different plays, we could be in a bowl game... I'd rather the guy set a goal, admit he didn't achieve it, and talk about how he will improve to get there. Okay, I'd really rather he just went away, but evidently that isn't going to happen.

You win and you get to say whatever you want.

You lose and people are jumping all over you no matter what you say or how you say it.

It is what it is.
