So I was going to make a post like this a couple of weeks ago, but for all intensive purposes it seemed like Hawk was on his way out. Either way, we stand at 11 commitments for the 2010 class and we need quite a few more before February. I figured it'd be fun to do a little position by position analysis of the recruiting class. so..

QB: Commits; Nick Hirschman and Munchie Legaux. Pretty much done here barring a surprise from a big time prospect. I guess we could put Danny Spond here if he recommits.
RB: Commits; Mister Jones. We need one more preferably with some size. We have offers out to the following uncommitted players: James McConico, Alfred Blue, Erick Howard, Kenny Bell, Devon Blackledge, and Darryl Fields. We're out of it for McConico and Blue, I don't think Howard is overly high on us, Bell seems like a goner. Blackledge and Fields are two guys I don't know much about. We also are after Jeremy Langford, but are waiting on his grades to go up to offer I think.
WR: Commits; Keenan Canty and Donnie Duncan. Still need at least one more here. Offers out to: Kenny Stills, Paul Richardson, Austin Hill, Kurt Davis, Tyler Slavin, Venric Mark, Jimmy Hall, James Butler, Saqwan Edwards, and Thomas Street. We're out of it for Stills. Richardson we have a shot at especially with the angle that he was Clark Evans favorite WR last year. I don't think Hill is really considering us. Slavin is from Denver and I think we're in his top two. I don't know anything about Mark, Hall or Butler. Edwards is a under the radar type out of Texas with a big time QB in the 2011 class that is a good friend of his. Street and Davis are teammates that we are recruiting, pretty good shot at getting them both.
TE: Commits; Kyle Slavin and Justin Favors. I would like to get at least one more so we can let two of them redshirt. Looks like the only guy left that we're after is Harold Mobley who might be a DE. Maybe Jarrod Darden might be in line for a move to TE?
OL: Commits; Daniel Munyer. We're probably going to get a commit from Kaiwi Crabb in the near future. Other than him we seem to only have a real chance at Alex Lewis and Dillon Bonnell, the Stanford commit. Maybe they're planning on only getting a couple of guys and going hard after some guys next year. Seems like there are a few solid OL prospects in state next year.
DL: Commits; Chidera Uzo-Diribe. We really need a couple more guys here this year. Offers out to: Sealii Epanesa, Foi Foi, and Harold Legania for DTs. DE offers are: Chris Martin, Nduka Onyeali, Jordan McDonald, and Kirk Poston. We seem to be out of it for Onyeali and Martin. I don't know anything about McDonald. Poston is our last hope for a DE it seems.
LB: Commits; Lowell Williams. Some pretty good prospects left for us here. Kris Benson, Evan Palelei, Kris Rice, Cecil Whiteside, Danny Spond, Justin Parker, VJ Fehoko, Garret Gilliland, and Dustin Elisara. We're pretty out of it for Parker and Fehoko. Whiteside seems to prefer Cal and ASU over us. Gilliland is a UW lock pretty much, in fact I thought he committed to them? I don't know anything about Elisara except he has an impressive list of offers according to Scout. Benson, Palelei, Spond and Rice all seem like great players. Hopefully we can get 1 or 2 of them.
S: Commits; none. Offers out to Kevin Smith(possible WR), Erick Dargan, Roman Abreu, and Josh Robbins. We really need to get at least one guy this cycle. I'm pretty sure we're out of it for Dargan. Smith is highly possible, he's one of the 4 guys we are after from Compton. He's also the highest rated one so he has more options than some of his teammates. Abreu I think we're in his final 2 with ASU. I don't know anything about Robbins. Some of the guys we're after at CB and WR could also end up at safety.
CB: Commits; Jered Bell. We're still after: Demetrius Wright, Bryce Callahan, Gregory Ducre, and Nelson Grammage. It's not looking good for Wright, he has been a strong USC lean for awhile. I don't know much about Callahan. Ducre might actually be the guy that is down to us and ASU and not Abreu, I can't remember. Grammage is another of the Compton boys that we're after.
K: Commits; none. I don't know who else is left. Kip Smith seems to have gone with UCLA over us. Justin Castor is committed to Kansas, not sure how good he is, he hasn't received the publicity that Smith has on this board.

I went by the scout recruiting website to see who had offers and what not. I think Rivals has better recruiting coverage, but I don't have premium on that site and their prospect search thing sucks now. Feel free to add anyone that we're after that I missed.

Pretty much all the info is in the stickied '10 Recruit Profile Index thread: http://www.allbuffs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32057

I won't go through every position, but Kicker is one I think is kind of interesting. We may still have a good shot at Kip Smith. If not, you've got to think Justin Castor opens up his Kansas commit just a bit if there's a coaching staff change. And we do seem to be pretty high on Ronnie Doherty out of Texas.

LOL yeah me too, but then again it only took me 15 minutes or so and now I don't have to be so depressed. Looking at the scout prospect list, the remaining guys were dwindling. Looks like we're after a lot more than I thought, which is great.

You should probably just delete this so it doesn't clutter up the board. It is pretty redundant after all.

You're killin me here. Lets dust this one under the rug and hopefully nobody that has seen it will remember it.

I think we should leave it. The 2010 thread is locked so people can't really comment. This thread will give people a chance to share their opinions on the remaining prospects. Good work though rabbit.

That's what I was thinking.

What are people thinking at RB? 1 more? 2 more?

Would you want a smaller, quicker back like Speedy & B-Lock to complement Mister Jones or more of a prototypical between the tackles type?

I think we need at least 1, 2 if coaches aren't as high on Hildreth as Jasper is. I'd like to see a big powerful guy, but those seem to be few and far between these days. I would certainly take Blackledge, guys that run 4.3 40s are few and far between, and one more of the bigger guys. Langford, Fields, or LeVeon Bell. Actually now that I think about it we should take 2 since we're losing 2 and we moved Polk last spring. That will still leave enough room for Ameen-Moore or Dorian Brown next year.

What do you guys about DL recruiting? It seems like we missed on a lot of DEs, but there are a lot of DTs still left that we have a good shot at. Foi, Epanesa, and Legania all could end up here. Humphrey, Legafuanina, Uko, and Onuahu are all really good under the radar types that we could have a shot at. I'm hoping on top of Diribe, we can get Poston or McDonald and 2-3 of the DTs. Then we can start getting them in here and redshirting them instead of starting them.

I'd like to see a run stuffing DT out of this class.

I have a feeling we'll make a late push and pull in a very good DL class this year.

I'm really hoping for a long lean kid with some speed. One of those 6-1 to 6-3 195 pounders who runs about a 4.4, and has GOOD HANDS. Basically, Ray Polk. With as much zone coverage and blitzes as teams threw at us last year, we could kill it with a good screen package.

I think we have a couple that Hawk, in his mysterious wisdom, red shirted this year. Hopefully they get lunch pails and are able to see the field next year.

not at RB. interested to see what quick does next year... god I hope they get rid of pit. He makes kids slower, and speedy really needs to put on some more pounds if he wants to survive next year

 I don't know how it didn't occur to me that you guys already had the prospect list. I mean, I had seen it and liked it, I just haven't looked at it in awhile because it isn't bolded, so usually I don't click on anything that isn't bolded. Either way I figured it'd be nice to group up the entire class and see what we have and what we still need to get in the next couple of months. Luckily you guys are on top of things or there would have been a few suicides judging by the alarming amount of players that Scout doesn't list us as after.

K: Commits; none. I don't know who else is left. Kip Smith seems to have gone with UCLA over us. Justin Castor is committed to Kansas, not sure how good he is, he hasn't received the publicity that Smith has on this board.

Walrus would be disappointed if I didn't comment on special teams, so here it is.

First, I'm not excited about Kip Smith either way. Since there is a school of thought that he might somehow become a buff after a fantasy decommit from UCLA, where his kicking guru/coach Chris Sailer (and former UCLA kicker) lives in the neighborhood, I'll reserve comment until after the ink dries on the LOI. If Kip goes anywhere but CU, I'll give an honest opinion at that time. Until then, go Kip!

Second, Justin Castor has decent stats, just not all the publicity. He attended CU's camp and could be contacted to gauge interest, IMO. Boulder>>Lawrence. He said in an early interview that he expected a CU offer, but it never came, so he took the KU offer instead.

His Arvada West team was knocked out of the playoffs last weekend, but up until then he was perfect 11 for 11 in Field Goals this year: 44, 20, 46, 40, 20, 25, 20, 53, 43, 32, 27 ... with a long FG of 53 yards. (Note of caution, volunteer stat takers may not track the misses as carefully as the good field goals.)

He also scored two touchdowns this season, one looks like a trick play or fake FG? "Castor 5 yd. TD PASS from Glanz" and "Justin Castor, 36-yard pass from Gavin Glanz."

Only found Denver Post punting stats for a single game: 2 punts, average punt 61 yds, long of 67. So he can do both, in theory.

Unless it was a long forgotten whim (and how could it be?) Hawkins said they will take a kicker/punter this cycle. With only one punter on the roster, and currently no #1 running back as backup :smile2:, they need someone in the wings. Our kicking situation is okay -- assuming one of the current three backups is better than the 2009 starter, which I think will be proven true. But you would want a younger player redshirting as THREE kickers (Goodman, Aweida and Kirkwood) will all graduate in 2010.

In addition to Doherty, CU also had an unofficial visit from Nolan Kohurst, p/k out of Green Valley HS in Nevada, I think the same school as recruit John Archuleta who stopped by to watch the Nubs game last week.

Whoever else they are looking at in the K/P position, it's been very quiet.

The Florida boards seem pretty confident they'll get him. But that's what they thought about Kasa. :smile2:

Not much hope but I've seen crazier things happen.

What's the word on the OL/DL from hawaii? Hatchie, crabb etc....

Crabb's probably going to be a Buff. Don't think it's gonna happen with Hatchie.

On the DL, Foi Foi has the Buffs with Arizona in his final 2. Epenesa is also very high on the Buffs but harder to read with it probably being either us or UCLA (he'd be a bull on the inside). Lagafuina is probably bound for the Pac-10 and we haven't offered yet, but he'd be a steal if Cabral could pull it off. I'd take all 3 and be very happy with our DT class this year.

I just did a search on Rivals and Colorado has

... wait for it ...

168 offers out currently.

Obviously, some of these guys have committed elsewhere, but still...
we have 64 offers out to currently uncommitted players, if the database is close to corrcect.

Flock shooting is illegal. :smile2:

I'm not sure how many Scout has listed, but I doubt it's that high. Their coverage is poor, but I prefer their prospect search system deal. The Rivals one is just a wall of options that I would rather not look at. Now let's see, if we aim high and get 15 more commits, we'll need Hawk to close on 23% of them!

How many LBers do you guys think we're going to take this class? Seems like we're doing pretty well with a number of them. I'd have to think we take at least 2 since we're losing 2, but it seems like we could easily land more than that.

If you look at the numbers after the 2008 season, we're losing a lot more than 2 linebackers.

Smart, Mohler and Burton were scholarship seniors. Stengel was granted a scholarship and he graduated, too. Katoa was unable to get himself academically eligible and left CU. And Hartigan was moved to DE. In actuality, we're down 6 linebackers.

I think the number is now 4 or even 5 for this class.

We've got Lowell Williams as a solid commitment. I believe we'll gain Evan Palelei from Nevada.

After them, the 2 we're recruiting hardest are Kyle Benson and Nigel Terrell. Plus, Danny Spond is potentially a linebacker if we can re-gain his commitment.

After that, we're looking at the two Hawaiian ILBs (Lolohea and Elisara) along with Kris Rice at OLB. And of course we'd always make room for any of the bluechip guys.
