This is one quote from Hawkins that I think is about right...

Agreed. I said it in the newsroom thread. As a baseline, I love it. Any season we beat CSU and NU while going to a bowl game is a successful season. There are certainly bigger goals out there that we shoot for, but that's a good basic set of goals for every year.

I could live with it.

If that's our minimum acceptable standard, I guarantee you could happily live with it.

The minimum is what you get with hawk and less.

The standards and goals have dropped, when you're going 2-10 and 3-9, 6-6 with wins over csu and nebraska seem monumental.

That's a range of 7-6 to 13-0 and a national championship with both scenarios covering the Rams and Nubs. If all we could do was the former, it wouldn't be good enough. If that was a down year, I'd be tickled pink.

Alfred is interviewing coach Barnett right now. He (Barnett) is cutting hawkins every break he can about the idiotic 'burned down' remark, but you can sense the underlying feeling that he's being portrayed unfairly.

He also just said he'd come back if offered the job.

This. I realize we aren't Texas or FSU of the 90s, expecting double digit wins every year is not reality. Then again shooting for the stars at 6 regular season wins, with one being over a terrible MWC team, isn't my idea of a great season. I'd rather our expectations be that we beat teams that we should beat. Nothing more, nothing less. That means we should beat teams like CSU, Hawii, ISU, Kansas, Baylor, KSU, maybe even NU and hell, Missouri.

Either way, at least Hawk has big plans of at least a winning season next year, Bohn seems content with a season that doesn't have any criminal activity and a 2.8 team GPA.

It's amazing how dumb people are sometimes or how much they can't correctly interpret what they are reading. Hawkins said, and what I agreed with is BASELINE or minimum, each season. Not shooting for the stars. Amazing how many things are taken out of context and then used in an argument which is not at all accurate.

Minimum, yes, I would take that over what has transpired so far.

I'm all for this if he's held accountable for it. If CU goes 5-7 next year but wins at *ebraska, I think Hawk needs to be shown the door. He has set the standard. Bohn didn't. DiStephano didn't. Benson didn't. Hawk did.

Bohn did set the standard. Hawk didn't meet it.

It's amazing what pricks people can be sometimes. I suppose you're right and he did say baseline, I just don't like the idea of 6 wins being any sort of expectation. Maybe next time you can just disagree with what I said and correct me, seems pretty simple for how brilliant you must be.

Since when did beating CSU become the baseline for sucess? We pounded the crap out of that team for so many years it did not make sense to even have them on the schedule.

CSU was one of the worst teams in the MW in 2009, but Hawk is using them as a measuring stick on him doing a good job? Instead of playing some DII school (although Hawk can't beat them either) for a pre-season tune-up, we would play CSU. CSU should not even be factored into being a sucessful season. It should be a W every year.

I understand that we are talking "minimum" standards, but shouldn't we try and raise the bar? Shouldn't our minimum standard be to challenge for the Big 12 North every year or win 8 regular season games every year?

At least he is already preparing everyone for another season of "minimum" standard (ie average at best) football in 2010. At lease we won't need to talk about 10 wins, no excusses.

This time next year Hawk and Bohn can go on the radio and talk about how they met the standards and that is why Hawk is back in 2011.

I paid much less attention to the CSU part of the comment than I did all the rest of it. If they beat *ebraska, that means they won on the road. If they win their bowl game, that means they had a winning record. So boil it down to a minimum of a 7-6 record and a road win at *ebraska. The CSU thing is more along the lines of "we don't want to lose to those assholes - ever".

I'd be satisfied with a 7-6 record next year if it included a bowl win and a road win at *ebraska. Would you not be?

I might be happy with 7-6 with a bowl win and corn road win, but only because of how crappy things have been the last 4 years.

If you are a student getting D's in all your classes, you are happy if you get a C.

What I don't want is for CU football to be happy with that. I would expect them to have higher minimum standards.

If we go 6-6 and our wins are against CSU, Hawaii, NU, ISU, KjcSU, and Baylor, but get pounded by everyone else are you happy?

That's what I'm trying to say. The baseline expectation of wins over CSU and NU as well as a bowl win are acceptable so long as they aren't the norm for the program. This baseline setting is basically what Barnett was getting for us after 2001, it wasn't good enough, so I think it's okay to expect a little more.

I'd be thrilled. But there's more to it. To be true to the "baseline expectation", we also have to win the bowl game.

And you're right, that isn't what we all want every year. Going into this year, I said I'd be disappointed with only winning 6 games. I'm far beyond disappointed at this point.

I think bottom line should be 7 wins, top three in the Big XII North and a bowl game win. Anything else, especially four years in a row, should get you dismissed.
