Suh leading for Heisman

According to this website. I think he is deserving but I don't want a Nub to win it:

The team is hardly the point. If this award goes to a defensive lineman on a team not in national contention, it will shatter the mold for the Heisman.

I consider this a good thing.

Instead of giving the award to the most electric offensive player in the top four ranked teams in the nation, perhaps this could establish the award as one that goes to the most deserving student-athlete.

I'm on board.

He played like a super hero v. UT. Holding off a lineman with one hand and dragging down McCoy with the other. Like freakin Hercules or something. And this coming from a guy who hates all things Neb.

Thanks for the support some of you. In all honestly I think he deserves it after that texas game.....dont forget that McCoy was the front runner before that game and suh shut him down.

Suh for hesiman.

"The best all around football player in college ball"

He's worked his butt off.

i think the thing that amazes me most about suh is his ability to throw off an offensive lineman using just his arms. he's unbelievably strong and he leverages well. he looks like a man among boys.

i don't think he'll win it. i also believe it will be ingram.

a. **** Nub

I don't disagree with the sentiment.

b. Like when Charles Woodson won it shattered the mold?

Didn't Michigan win or split an national championship the year he won (97-ish?). That's a big difference from nebraska this year.

I'd also argue that a shut-down sort of corner is not so much of a leap from a quarterback, runningback, receiver sort of player. I'd argue that a D-lineman really does break the mold.

Yep. You also have to remember that Charles Woodson was a dynamite returner. He won the award partly because of his explosiveness on special times. Giving the award to Suh, a defensive lineman, would definitely shatter the mold.

My thing is, if Suh had played for Texas for example, his numbers would be the same, if not better. Texas played 4 cupcakes OOC and, while, Nebraska played three, he still dominated against Va Tech. It all has to do with the team and that is not what the award is really about. Suh anchored a defense that gave up something like 11 pts a game, its not his fault that their offense was so inept.

Sadly for Nebraska, losing the game to Texas probably cost Suh the trophy (because now he's on a 4 loss team not in the BCS, which matters to voters). Ingram wins it b/c of the great game vs. Florida. Suh will get the last laugh when he's picked #1 or #2 in the Draft.

I hear ya. The award is a beauty contest -- a good player off of a great team.

The best player on O I saw this year plays for Stanford. The best player on D was Suh. I personally saw Toby more and he won the games for Stanford. Hence, he'd get my vote. Suh number 2.

I'd be happy if either one of these guys got it but my vote is for Toby too.

Ingram doesn't deserve it if you ask me. His stats are nowhere near what other Heisman RB's typically generate to get the trophy. And here's the real difference maker, if you take Ingram off of the Bama team they still are likly undefeated but if you take Gerhardt or Suh off of their teams their records likely changes...a bunch. Given that perspective, I'd give it to Tebow before I'd give it to Ingram.

I thought they were contractually obliged to give it to Tebow?

That was only a 3-loss team going into the Heisman voting, their 4th loss came in the bowl game.

It honestly shouldnt matter how many losses the TEAM has, that is why they are not playing for the TEAM trophy (MNC) but instead an INDIVIDUAL is in the running for the top INDIVIDUAL award.

So had the Nubs not lost to Iowa State, then Suh would be a top candidate?

Hey, I completely agree that this award has way too much of emphasis of winning put on it.

I was just pointing out that you were wrong about Florida having 4 losses when he won it. :smile2:

Bumping the Woodson discussion but the other thing he had going for him was Michigan also used quite a bit on the offense that year too.

Didn't he have like 6 or 7 TD catches that year while also being a monster against opposing QBs and picking off anything that came his way?

Those offensive TDs went a long way toward his Heisman cred.
