State of the Buffs interview with Brandon Schaub

Listening to 103.5 the fox interview with Brandon Schaub this morning. He mentioned that GB was a good coach, well liked by most of the team, and knew how to prepare and make them mentally tough to compete on the field.

He mentioned that it has been very tough on him and former teammates to watch what has been going on for the last 3 years and that they have let everyone know from the top down of their displeasure.

He made no comment when asked what it was going to take to “turn things around”

Said that when Talkins speaks to the press that most of the time it’s out of frustration and doesn’t give much thought about how he is going to answer a question, hence the “burnt to the ground comment”

He wishes the best for the program and hopes Talkins can right the ship next year. During the course of the interview, he mentioned several times that Talkins has 1 more year to “get it right”

With that said, Does he know something that we don’t?:smile2:

Except for the "conspiracy theory" folks, I think most of us understand that he'll be gone if he doesn't turn it around next year. At the very least, he'd better get us to a bowl.

He also said things would be much different if Barnett was still here. I didn't elaborate on what he meant by that, but pretty much implied it would be for the better.

If he could coach worth a damn we probably would care about his wacky quotes, but it just shows you the guy has no football knowledge.

He is understandably loyal to GB. If all the "crap" had not gone down, I believe GB would still be here.

I suppose you can call me a conspiracy theorist then. I do not believe Hawk has to make a bowl game next season to save his job.

Yeah, I remember hearing that part but my pen couldn't take notes fast enough.:smile2:

Most of us thought he had to turn things around this year to save his job. Then 3-9 happened, and DBT's boy is still our coach.

I don't mind them bringing back old players and so forth - but all the "If Barnett was still here, things would be different" rings pretty hollow to me. I'm sure if Bill McCartney was still coaching, things would be different. I bet that if Rick Neuheisel was still at CU, things would be different.

This isn't a matter of Dan Hawkins v. Gary Barnett. Gary Barnett wasn't fired, just so we could hire Dan Hawkins. Gary Barnett was fired for a lot of reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with Dan Hawkins. And the reasons Dan Hawkins should be fired have absolutely nothing to do with Gary Barnett.

It will be interesting. I heard Benson's take on the whole thing was that Bohn messed up by giving Hawkins an extension and he basically said "I am not going to have your mistakes make my job tougher! It is your mess so you live with it."

GB is not a coach that I want...can win the easy games and folds in the hard ones....does anybody know GBs record against ranked opponents??? and this is not a post defending DH. all I want is a coach that has a positive winning percentage against ranked opponents. pipe dream...I know.

Where'd you hear that one? just curious
