Is it too late to fire Hawkins?

Let's say Benson, DiStephano, Bohn & the Regents finally see the light and do what should have been done about ten seconds after the Toledo game and sh!t can Hawkins. There are still some pretty good names out there that would be good choices for head coach here. Recruiting can't get any worse, so firing him now would have no significant impact on recruiting and in fact may actually help it.

I have been secretly hoping that they would come to this conclusion....

Unfortunately, the same issues that led them to keep him are still in place. I had hopes that perhaps with the funds in place to fire him that they'd see through the political bullshat that is driving their decisions. Politics can work both ways.

Only chance we have is if Talkins leaves for a San Jose State like job..

what other job is like a San Jose State type of job? :smile2:

This is the newest sports cliche....

"we need to get a Brent Venables type of guy in here..."

Using actual people and places an an adjective....

What, is Butler Benson up for reelection? If he's so anti-sports, I can only imagine what his political agenda trooly is. Can he be recalled?

yes, no matter how bad we do this offseason in recruiting, Hawk is here to start next season, if he finishes is up to him.

Benson serves at the pleasure of the Board of Regents. That is where pressure needs to be placed IMO. Bensonis obviously a political hack. I winder if the CU Presidency was a plum for fighting the good fight as a Republican gubernatorial candidate but losing. Makes you wonder how much thought went into naming this hack as President.....

These guys never expected Recruiting to be good this year. It's not a possibility given the situation. Do you really expect they would somehow, only now, see that?

Who are these "guys" you are talking about?

And wouldn't you agree that the lifeblood of any program is the recruits you bring in? How do we compete if all we are doing is just accepting recruiting is bad because Hawk has been a failure as a coach here?

The doubletalk and backpedaling really is hilarious.

Please, grace me with a glance into your crystal ball and let me know how the 2011 recruiting class is going to end up.

Did anyone catch Turner Gill's press conference to announce himself as HC of KU?

Paraphrased, he said:
"We're going to recruit. We're going to win games against our rivals. We're going to recruit. We're going to win the North. Then we're going to recruit. We're going to win a Big 12 championship which puts you in the NC more times than not. Then we're going to recruit."

Tennessee is going to be back at the top of the SEC East soon because they are pulling in very, very good classes and have top notch recruiters. TN is willing to put its money where it's mouth is though and is trying to compete with the likes of UGA, LSU, UF and Bama.

oh like Junction... he works both ways...

Snow, let this serve as a warning to you. Is this who you want to end up being??

It's not too late to fire Hawk. But it's too late to get anybody in place in Boulder who would make it happen. I hate to say it, but we're stuck for another year... :sad1:

Just trying to warn you against turning into Philly. It starts out with a few quasi-humorous insults, but the next thing you know you're babbling about saunas, three ways with me and Liver and "working both ways". Just trying to warn you away from that road while there's still time for you. Consider it an early Christmas gift...

i've seen a picture of philby. he's not my type.

as to the original question in this thread, hawkins isn't going anywhere. we all need to get over it for now. recruiting is going to suck. there will be horrific transfers. we are going to lose good coaches. that's the off-season in a nutshell. signing day is going to be miserable. spring ball is going to be a yawner. of course, once the fall camp starts up, we'll have all the usual arguments and discussions about the impending disaster of a season. so, we've got that to look forward to... then, once the season is underway, the trainwreck will unfold slowly and on television. yay.

i know. i can't help myself. i am just so darned giddy about the glorious future of CU Football.

i've always been of the opinion that coaches come and go and that everything is cyclical. but, this benson thing has really sapped my ability to believe that there is any light at the end of the tunnel any time soon. CU may, someday, get lucky and have a nice little run again, but it won't be because of a plan. it will be because of random luck. i've done what i can do. i've voted with my wallet. it is closed.

i'll go up to the cal game because i won't be able to help myself. but, i am not going to invest any money or emotion in this program for the foreseeable future. i am getting too old to be miserable by supporting those that have clearly decided to de-emphasize what i am supporting.

this train wreck has turned into an all out disaster....CU continues to fall farther and farther behind in all aspects in college football. We may be watching the downfall of a once proud football program, that may never recover....

After this season, we now have too many ranting and ravers.. We need more DBT type of posters to balance it out.. :smile2:
I like Juicey's new greasy hair, looks like a young loose cannon, ass kicking Nick Nolte.

Happy Holidays to you too. :sad1:

I still believe in Shanny Claus! We are just waiting for the Texan's season to be over!!!!

Benson certainly has not achieved what the Regents had hoped for when they hired him, which was to increase state funding for the school. In fact, it's decreased. Whether it would have decreased even more had Benson not been in place will never be known.

I can't figure out whether Benson is really so ignorant that he can't make the connection between athletic success and alumni support, of if he fully understands it, and figures it needs to be made abundantly clear to the politicans in Denver. If the latter is true, he's playing a dangerous game that could cost him his job, but might be better for CU in the long run.

As our favorite juice box hander-outer is fond of saying: "we'll see".
