Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

According to a new article from InsideSocal.com, Powell will be visiting CU in January.

Also coming will be some of his teammates from Charter Oaks: LB Keith Smith, RB Adam Muema, and ATH Brandon Golden.

Thanks to White_Rabbit for finding the article.

Charter Oaks is coming off a "21-0 victory over Diamond Ranch, a win that secured their second consecutive CIF-Southern Section Southeast Division championship..."

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

isnt this the guy we all wanted right after signing day last year or was that sean parker

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

No thanks here, I saw someone post it on netbuffs, so thank them.

I don't know anything about 3 of them, but Golden has some pretty good size and speed. He's currently committed to Washington State, but obviously he's open to other possibilities.

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

All of these guys were mentioned heavily in an article that ran on MidValleySports.com prior to Oaks winning the championship (Top 10 Reasons Charter Oaks will Win). You may notice that the author is kind of high on A.J. Powell :wink2: :

1.) Adam Muema: The prolific CO back has gone over the century mark rushing 22 times in his career and has scored 64 touchdowns. Terris Jones gets a lot of love, but Muema is playing for another ring.

1A.) A.J. Powell: This will be the third title game in Powell’s four years. He made first varsity appearance as a freshman.

2A.) A.J. Powell: He plays defense.

3A.) A.J. Powell: DR’s Elijah Henley is an excellent ball player, but he is not Powell. Not close.

4A.) A.J. Powell: He plays offense.

5.) Experience on the Field: Keith Smith (second consecutive 100-plus tackle season), Leon Youngblood, Dennis Rufus, and Brandon Golden are all very experienced in the big game.

5A.) A.J. Powell: He returns punts.

6A.) A.J. Powell: …by A.J. Powell.

7A.) A.J. Powell: In regards to the suddenly in-vogue “field position” question, Lou Farrar himself he has seen no one like Powell in 43-years of coaching who could change field position at the drop of a hat.

8A.) A.J. Powell: There are “Get Back” coaches who are mostly unofficial. Powell is the unofficial “Get Down” coach for CO on the field. He says ‘get down, get into it’ to his teammates or ‘get out’.

9A.) A.J. Powell: He gets a lot of help from his friends: Keith Smith, Dennis Rufus, Leon Youngblood, Patrick Dallen, Dillon Howes, Charlie Avila, and Curtis Ortega.

10A.) A.J. Powell: He’s been chiseled out of a granite football. If they could capture an image of him appropriate enough…he could be the logo for CIF.

I think you're thinking of Sean Parker - he was teammates with Josh Moten. I doubt Parker is coming to CU...highly doubt it...as in it's not going to happen. Parker is a top recruit that although I haven't been keeping tabs on, was leaning USC last I checked several months ago.

Sean Parker?
Take a look at his offer list :wow:

But he hasn't visited USC, only Notre Dame and Cal at this point.
There was a report that four-star safety, Sean Parker (6-0, 185, 4.5) from Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne had committed to USC, but that rumor ends up being unfounded.

He is a heavy USC lean, along with Demetrius Wright.

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

I think he would fit in nicely as a nickel CB replacing Chapelle

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

After his visit, A.J. says Boulder is in the lead, he loved his visit, but not ready to commit.

This may not seem like much, but take it as good news:
Freshman running back Quentin Hildreth served as Powell's player host for the weekend.

I've seen Quentin around other players and he has a great personality. I know they've asked him to host other players previously, so the coaches must have seen his charisma, too.

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

We may be slow playing this a bit. Doesn't sound like anyone is committing immediately.

A.J. said he's going to go on his Portland State visit even though CU is his clear favorite. That's almost certainly a sign that he is making sure he has options in case the CU offer doesn't end up being committable.

Also reasonable that the CU coaches didn't overly pressure anyone and did their standard routine of "Make sure you look around and explore all your options. Once you commit to CU, we want you to be 100%."

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

New article from Scout (interview with Powell).

As some of us suspected, the 4-some from Charter Oaks does not have committable offers from CU.

“We could all play together in college,” said Powell. “We all have the same work ethic and the same mentality to win. We’re all young leaders on the field.”

“We talked with them quite a bit,” said Powell. “They haven’t offered yet, but they’re supposed to call us this week to let us know.”

Powell has offers from New Hampshire and Portland State, but said an offer from the Buffs would likely end his recruitment.

“If they offered, I’d probably commit right away,” said Powell.

************

Also, the article seems to confirm that Ashley Ambrose is on the Buffs' defensive staff:

Powell spent ample time with the coaching staff, primarily head coach Dan Hawkins and defensive assistant Ashley Ambrose.

I've been staring at this for awhile and have come to the conclusion that I can't read.

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

I don't know how the "not" got in there. Oops. Sorry.

Re: '10 CA S A.J. Powell

Either way, interesting that they're holding off on offering Powell and Smith. Are they doing the same to Golden? I kinda want to see them offer Powell if for nothing else than he seems to have the heart and sounds like he has the makings of a heck of a special teams contributor. It seems like what is holding the guy back is his height and his lack of speed for said lack of height.

A.J. has committed to Portland State. Congrats to him!

I'd like to think that Kiesau put in a good word for him there once it became clear that CU was not going to offer.
