Need to find some 2* diamonds in the rough, because we are no longer bringing in 4* visits. Our only chance the next 2 years is to bring in some serious SPEED. On the same note, bring in more large 320lb 2* linemen that can also be coached up.
Tired of losing to faster players, and stronger offensive linemen.
If our entire LB, safetys and DB's ran near a 4.4, I think that would work better against the spread offenses in the Big 12.
Don't worry about size on defense either, Play skinny fast linebackers. Kansas State always seems to have speed, we need this to win the North. How does Cincinnati and other small schools have better receivers and RB's than CU? Must be admissions, or all of our speeedy WR offensive talent is on the sideline and will FINALLY be seen for the first time next year.

You have to get lucky and coach up some young players that have NATURAL acceleration and speed. CU has a long history of slower, large sized, powerful O-lineman growing into great players. Need to steal some Texas players from TCU's backyard!!! If all else fails, hire some of the recruiting assistants away from the Cincinnatis, and TCU's and get into these athletic recruiting areas, and get this program TURNED AROUND.

Totally agree with the OP.

Speed is the meat in the big play sandwich. We lost to Toledo because literally every player they put on the field was faster than the guy across from him. I read through their old recruiting pressers before the game. Not one of their backs, receivers, or d-backs ran anything slower than a 4.5/40 in HS. A couple of the receivers on our 3-deep couldn't even outrun Toledo's linebackers. Wanna see some of those little flag routes, and routine handoffs go for 70 yds? Bring in some kids who can ****ing run, and get the ball in their hands.

Don't even get me started on our safeties. Who throws a D-1 BCS conf scholly at a DB who runs a 4.8? Had Hawk ever watched a down of Big XII football before he went on that 'go play intramurals' rant?

As for the O-line... Not sure if it's our S&C coach, or a lack of work ethic from the players, but they're just not packing on that last 20 lbs of muscle. By their 2nd or 3rd yr in the program, their legs should all look like tree trunks. Who's planning their diet & workouts? The crew from the Biggest Loser? Somebody needs to tell these kids to quit playing ****ing Mafia Wars, and go hit the squat rack and the sleds EVERY day until they get their man legs. You'd think someone with a potential NFL contract waiting would be willing to put the work in. Strap on a 100lb pack, and go summit a 14-er. Take a summer job as a hod carrier or furniture mover, FFS! Whatever it takes. Maybe that new kid Richter can help get them all squared away.

I posted this in the Sam Galiano recruiting thread. He's a 2* track superstar we have offered out of Texas. The best way to make recruiting inroads into Texas is to take the smaller speed guys that UT, OU and TAMU aren't offering. Build the pipeline and increase our team speed. It's the strategy that worked for Rutgers in Florida (now coming off their 4th straight bowl win after being a doormat for decades).

Speed has nothing to do with the losses....it comes down to one thing, the coaches. This team is never prepared to play 4 quarters of football, to many mistakes.

How the hell can you get bigger lineman than Solder and Miller? I am not sure they make them that big.

I'll admit that we had major coaching problems last year.

But I can't agree that team speed had "nothing to do with the losses." It's been obvious since about 2004 that this team was getting progressively slower and it was killing us against top competition.

It's both. We were slowest against Toledo because we were so poorly prepared. Our team speed improved after that game because the coaches dumbed down the scheme and let the guys run first instead of think first. Our team speed obviously needs to improve, but coaching (or lack thereof) can slow a team down.

How much faster can we run a 5 yard curl? Sounds exciting... can't wait.

Here's the deal - a kid who runs a 4.3 gets a 5 yd cushion on that route, because a missed tackle = 6 points. A kid who runs like Chalky McDutch doesn't get that extra cushion. On obvious passing downs, a slower receiver is probably going to get jammed. He's not going to get a cushion to get some YAC. And to top it off, the corner is going to be sitting in his back pocket all day, which means your QB gets picked more often.

Can we hire you as coach? :smile2:

that is were I do disagree, a better prepared team with fewer mistakes will find a way to win...this team has talent with some speed, the coaches need to have them prepared to play to win, and believe that they can win with the talent and speed they have on the field...
