Urban meyer steps down as florida head coach?!!?!?!?

Just saw it! :wow: Thought it had to be a joke, but looks real. I wish him well with his health.

Also, Charlie Strong and the Florida athletic department are giving a mutual "oh ****" right now.

At least Nick Kasa didn't commit to play for Urban only to get strange news like this.

Wonder if any commits (this year) will have second thoughts? It's pretty late in the cycle to shop, but for some there is time to take another look.

For reals, they've got to make a scramble now for the recruiting period, though they shouldn't be too worried because most of the guys in that class probably like their perceived situation at Florida regardless.

Does Charlie Strong rebuke Louisville and return? Does Dan McCarney get an "interim" tag and hold the reins for the spring with a potential tryout for the gig?

Bob Stoops may be a leading outside candidate. Will Muschamp only if the money's right to take him from his current deal. Skip Holtz a long shot but maybe on the list. What's our favorite first-to-report website have to say about this?

This has to feel very similar to Gator fans to what happened in 1994 with Bill McCartney and Colorado. Colorado is flying high as one of the best programs in the country, just basically crowned our first Heisman winner and then WHAM!! McCartney announces his retirement.

Holy crap! Guess Meyer's hospital visit after the Bama game was a little more serious than anybody knew.

Hope he's ok. This is going to be an interesting search, a top program that had absolutely no intention of looking for a new coach. I agree with BB, Stoops and Shanny make a lot of sense right now. Foley courted Shanny HARD a few years ago, and with Shanny available right now, you know he'll make another run at it.

As for a dark horse, don't forget Nick Saban is ALWAYS available to the highest bidder...

Tim Tebow graduating. Urban Meyer stepping down. This is a major disturbance in the SEC force.

Woodies must be sprouting in Athens and Auburn, Lexington and Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge and Oxford and Columbia, Fayetteville and Nashville and Knoxville and Starkville and all across SEC country.

Shanny is going to DC.
He isn't there yet. Plenty of rumors he's also interested in Chicago (hometown, basically) and UFla (former employer, Foley is a good friend).

He's not going anywhere until the season ends. He's in no rush to miss out on any options...

Wow. This will be interesting. If I'm Florda, I go after Kyle Winningham. They did alright with the last guy they hired from Utah, didn't they? He probably runs the same system and knows a lot of the assistants.

Honestly, I really do not think Shanny ends up in DC. It seems like one of those stories that people repeat enough so it is accepted as fact. I would actually think it is more likely he ends up Chicago or Florida. I hope he ends up at Florida, I think it would be fun to watch him coaching college football.

Let's say Florida goes back to the well. Meyer came from Utah and they go to another non BCS school for their coach and go for Chris Peterson. Is this the straw that sends Hawk and his ego over the edge? LOL Now THAT I'd love to see.

Probably be a big BCS name though. Wonder what happens with Strong and Louisville now.

Shanahan to Florida would be fitting. After all, I hear he and Urban were the original choices to star in the film Brothers before the studio had to settle on Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire

I am shocked - SHOCKED - that ESPN's talking heads didn't include Coach Da-yan Hawkins' on their First Two Names to consider.

Your right, lots of things in common with the way Mac stepped down here.
