Perhaps this was posted elsewhere already, but I didn't see it. Pretty ridiculous.

Hays County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s dashboard camera footage of Longhorn running back D.J. Monroe’s arrest Nov. 15 for driving while intoxicated. The felony charge was dropped and Monroe pled guilty to obstructing a passageway in exchange for deferred adjudication. University of Texas head football coach Mack Brown reinstated Monroe after the legal issues were settled.

lol - i posted this before seeing the end of the video, where the dude yaks all over the patrol car. Can't believe he got out of DWI

Don't get me wrong, guy should have been punished, but that officer totally gets off on being a dick.

Well, he didn't really get out of it in reality. Sure he doesn't have the charges filed on him right away, but he gets what is called a deferred judgment. If he gets in trouble for anything in a certain amount of time, say two years, the OWI charge will be refiled on him. When drunks throw up on the back of your car, it really ****ing sucks!

Where was he being a dick besides saying, "are you deaf?" He didn't need to say that, but he was fine for the rest of the traffic stop. You have to understand that dealing with drunks is a pain in the ass and they forget everything you say to them. By law he has to make sure that they understand what is being explained to them. When they repeat the same thing over and over again that has nothing to do with the question that was asked you begin to see how big of a pain they can be. Unless you've processed a sloppy drunk you can never know where officers are coming from.

"I didn't have anything to drink." Yeah, well most people don't throw up in the back of a patrol car, slur their words, and fail the field sobriety tests if they're not drunk turbo.

He appears pretty drunk to me. Be interesting to see if the DA is a Texas Alum. I did some digging on the Hays County DA, Sheri Tibbe. I found this little tidbit in her County Bio. "Sherri left her job at the AG’s office and attended the University of Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work with Honors in December 1989", and there you go. BOOK EM HORNS! In all seriousness, I am just damn glad the kid didn't kill someone else or himself for that matter.

I don't see the cop being a dick. He handled it pretty well IMO. Repeated himself countless times for the drunk...even did the instructions 2 times for the drunk. Didn't overreact when the drunk puked inside of his police cruiser...

Cop did a good job.

This was almost exactly the same spot on I-35 in San Marcos where I got pulled over for speeding four years ago. SMPD, which actually has a rep (college town) as being bigger dicks than the Sheriff's Office. Cop was cool as hell; figured out I was sober when I quoted the exact speed he had clocked me at when he asked if I knew why I had been stopped. Said he appreciated my honesty and let me be on my way.

Though he mentions he's a football player a couple of times, DJ is pretty respectful and cooperative toward every command he can comprehend in this state. Doesn't start yelling "Do you know who I am?!" and claiming racism or anything. Cop here is doing a good job for the most part. That's a pretty dark stretch of road, though. I figured all stops along here get backup at some point just to be safe, but nothing doing here.

I blame the baggy pants for the retardation on the field tests.

Kinda comes with the territory. Most cops are complete assholes.

I like cops - always found them reasonable and helpful - but I am a law abiding nerd. When we get into any deep Sh&^t who do we call??????The police. I will say I am not fond of criminals and drunks.

I posted before watching most of the video, and you're right, he was alright most of the time. That part that made me post was when he kept telling him to stand heel to heel, toe to toe, and the guy thought he was supposed to stand heel to toe. Instead of explaining to him what he was doing wrong, he kept being a dick about it and just repeating himself.

No, the DWI charge was dismissed. He pled guilty to some BS misdemeanor (obstruction of a passageway), and that is what got a deferred adjudication. So if he gets into trouble within the deferred period, he gets a sentence for obstructing some passageway.

Say what?? He is drunk as a skunk and he gets a deferred sentence?? Wow!!

Right, if I'm driving in that state of consciousness and I get caught, I deserve all that's coming to me and more. But, if he gets a deferred sentence, I want one too.

The thing is he HAS to explain the test in a certain way or he can get destroyed in court by some defense attorney. It's just a way for the defense to say their client didn't understand something. In Iowa they've tried to pull this B.S. on me a few times in court and always end up losing the argument because it's a stretch most of the time. If I arrest someone for OWI they are usually pretty damn drunk. Most of my drunks are around .200 which is 2 1/2 times the legal limit. Highest I've had was .302, that guy was a pro and it was his 4th OWI.

If I had to guess with this one, without seeing the other portions of the test, I'd say he was around a .185 or so, but it's hard to guess without seeing the other tests.

I understand that's what the article says, but what does the exact order from the judge say? Do you have that in front of you or have access to it? (Not trying to be a smartass, just asking as I don't know what you do for a living?) Alot of times articles like this come out and appear one way when in reality there are several other conditions that need to be met in the order or the original charge can be filed. This is my experience from being in this line of work for 8 years now.

Sorry BRI, I don't have access to it, and I'm not involved in the situation. If the paper is incorrect in saying the DWI charge was dismissed, then I'm incorrect as well, since that's the only information I have.

Okay, I was just wondering if you had some more information on the situation. Thanks
