Got our RB named Jones?

Don Bosco Prep is one of the top 3 or so High School programs in the country. He was the NJ player of the year..... And.....

bcs reverting to his old ways.... PER RIVALS he commited to cu!!!!

Major pickup for CU. Rivals' scout in the East says he's the next Ray Rice. The Jersey boys on the Rutgers board say he's Dion Lewis Part Deux (the great Pitt freshman no one recruited).

I think we got an absolute steal here. And since he played his HS ball on the #1 team in the country (beat top teams from AL and CA on top of their NJ schedule)... Jones is going to come in ready for big boy football.

I'd still take 2 RBs. Maybe wait until summer and see if we can snag McConico or Howard as a late qualifier like we did with Will Jefferson last year.

I'm at the basketball game, but will put together a profile thread tonight (and merge this one in).

The Pitt guy had some offers I believe from Mac schools..

Ray Rice had offers from Big East schools.

We'll see if he can play.. .

He had offers from Michigan and Boston College this summer, but both schools rescinded their offers.
A steal ... if Jones qualifies ...

Which means he won't and I gather all of this is just to make the recruiting class look better Feb 6..

Jimmy, why don't you take a break?

If all you can do is bitch when CU lands the Gotorade POTY for New Jersey, it's time to get away.

I'll remember that when August comes around and he doesn't qualify and everyone here spins that.. Carry on with the kool-aid drinking.

Taking a risk on two RBs with grade issues is a bit much IMO. If we get left with neither, that is not going to be good at all. I like taking a chance on one kid, but we need a sure qualifier with the second RB.

He looks super quick with good vision. But really small. Can't wait to see him in the black and gold. Welcome Tony.

Wow, I do not understand why some of you have so much confidence in Hawkins.

No one else offers him...let me guess, Hawkins is just better at scouting players than the big-name coaches.

Talent is not the issue here. Scouting is not the issue. It has everything to do with grades. Considering where we are, is it that bad an idea to take some risks on guys with grade issues?

He will be a nice addition if he qualifies and we decide to run the ball every once in a while.

There are many talented players, with grade issues, who have offers. Countless, talented players with grade issues and offers.

All this talk about our admission standards being so much better than most others, and yet we're the only one to offer a kid who has so much talent? That doesn't add up.

Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep running back Tony Jones has made his decision and the three-star prospect will be heading to spend his college years in the Big XII.

He had offers from BC and Michigan that were rescinded due to grades. Again, feel free to bitch and complain about plenty, but I do not see much downside to this commitment.

First, where do you see that he had offers from BC to Michigan?

Again, I can find you a list of talented players with grade concerns who have CURRENT offers. Offers that have yet to be rescinded.

You have too much trust in this staff.

Sigh. No use arguing with you.

I think my feelings on this staff and this recruiting class have been very clear.

Then quit being so damn sensitive. Hell, I'd love to be proven wrong when it comes to my confidence in Hawkins' ability to do anything. Just once.

If Jones makes it to CU, I'd be pleasantly surprised. If he becomes a star at CU, I'd do a triple backflip. I just don't see either happening (especially the latter). The reason? H-A-W-K-I-N-S

Apparently disagreeing with you makes me sensitive. Got it.

Why are we the only ones offering a kid who will not make grades. Embarrasing. Hawk is just padding the recruiting commit list so it doesn't look so bad numbers wise. No way in the world Rutgers, Pitt, Connecticut or Syracuse don't offer this kid if there is ANY chance he qualifies. For goodness sakes, he's the gatorade player of the year in New Jersey on the best team. Every school knows about him and his skills.

...and we got him! WOOT! GO BUFFS! (some people just refuse to be happy about anything)

Wow, BuffMania sure switched screen names quickly.

1300 yards, 34 TDs, 7.97 yards per carry
Played against top competition
Thrived on the big stage (31 rushes, 218 yards, 4 TDs; 2 catches, 71 yards, TD in the state final)

Looks like a solid pickup at a position of need. Hopefully he finishes strong academically and qualifies.
