The California Zyphyr. You can depart Denver on the 9th and arrive in Emeryville (San Fran) on the afternoon of the 10th. One way is $96. Then you could catch a one way flight back to Denver after the game. The train ride is about 33 hours. Man, an Allbuffs junket on the Californial Zephyr sounds like a blast, doesn't it? Or am I on the wrong meds?

That does sound like fun. It would probably be less expensive to simply fly out and back, though. I'm giving some thought to going out for that game, as I have relatives in NoCal that I could stay with.

I rode the train up to Glennwood and i wanted to die by the end of it

I looked at taking the Zephyr out there to Colorado for the CSU game last year. I ended up not doing it because I didn't want to take the extra time off work, but I plan to do it sometime in the future.

One thing to make sure of is that you leave early enough that you can still make the game even if there are delays. Trains can be bitches like that.

Also, yeah, the price of the train is much more expensive than a flight. Especially if you decide to get a sleeper car.

i could see doing it one way, maybe. i took a greyhound from LA to Denver once and it was awful, like 40 hours total. maybe combo with a flight back from Vegas or Reno (since i've got buddies who live in Tahoe City). if you could take some time off that working thing most of seem to have to do.

DBT's just excited because he learned that trains don't run on steam any more. He thought that trip would take 3 days by rail.

33 hours on a train? are you people effed in the head??

i can't even sit still through an hour long meeting. when i take a flight longer than about 2 hours, i end up standing in the galley area, talking with the flight attendants. who the hell can sit still for 33 effin' hours?

i hope some of you decide to do this. you can regale me with tales of the epic suicidal boredom you faced if we meet up at the game.

I may have been interested in something like this back before I quite drinking. But 33 hours in an enclosed space with a bunch of people? SOBER? **** that ****.

OK, so the idea sucked. I thought you could reserve a party car or something.

The idea of going to the game is not a bad one. Airfare between DEN & SFO is pretty cheap, usually. Southwest will often fly that for around $60/each way. I'm seriously considering it.

Don't sleep on purchasing the tickets. I'm sure they will sell out fast.

This game is on my schedule for sure.

Ain't no party like a west coast party cause a west coast party don't stop.:dance:

The $96 ticket is for a coach seat...33 hours in a coach seat and you will regret it. No movies, no TVs, no shower, - if you get a bedroom it costs you about $350 more and does not have much amenities.

I am all for going out to the game, but I will fly in that case. Could be very fun.

It's definitely on my Calendar as well as I have a bunch of friends and family in the Bay Area and a lot that went to Cal. My cousin is also interested in both schools. I am definitely going to get tickets. Does anybody know when tickets go on sale?

EDIT: I called the ticket office and tickets wont go on sale until July or August. I should have known that from years past but I wanted to clarify.

Cheapest air fare, round trip, with tax, right now, is $235. That would be to either San Fran or Sacremento. Oakland is higher, for some reason.

And Oakland sucks because BART doesn't go directly to the airport. Frontier is usually cheapest into/out of San Jose. Suckramento is too far away.

I suspect once SWA releases space for September, those fares will drop.

Yeah. Bart goes to Berkeley and you can either walk about a mile to the stadium or take a shuttle bus.
