Hawk to be on Austin ESPN Radio tomorrow

Oh Yippee! I get to hear our Zen-Master coach talk about how Texas has "popped," "does the little things right," and got "their wins and no excuses."

Tomorrow at 4:00 CST/3:00 MST on ESPN Austin 104.9 FM.

The talking heads lead in "And at 4 we'll have Dan Hawkins, a guy who knows a little something about playing Texas." Yeah - and how to LOSE BIG to them!

I'll post a link if anyone's interested in listening to the Hawklish.

My question, why the hell is he going on UT pre-BCS radio show when his sorry butt needs to be out in recruits' houses getting them to come to CU?!?!:sad2:

Come on, man, chill a little. First, he is probably calling in on his cell phone while he is out recruiting. Second, getting on a sports radio show in Texas isn't exactly a bad thing to do, is it?

When you're the laughing stock of the Big 12 in this state? Yeah, I think so. What makes it worse is the idots he's going to on this show with have ridiculed him to no end in the past. I'm sure they'll show him the tongue-in-cheek respect TX sports talking heads are famous for, but in the end - it'll be disaster.

Will be tuning in crossing fingers and toes that he doesn't drop another "burned to the ground" doozy. Hopefully he doesn't come off looking like the complete and utter doosh we all know he is. With any luck, he has a good show and helps sway Austin Westlake HS ILB Bryce Hager our way.

Here's a link for tomorrow if interested... http://www.espnaustin.com/

Maybe it is good practice for Dan Hawkins to take a new approach to the media in general. He really has to get better in that aspect.

My sentiments exactly! He needs to get his act together with the press and the fans. Hopefully he's learned his lesson in the way he's handled himself in the past. Does this go without saying, We'll See?

If the guys he is on with have ridiculed him in the past, all the more reason to get on there and try to build a relationship with them. Positive exposure for us in Texas is crucial.

In this vein, I was reading about how Rutgers pays a lot of money to get their coach's show aired on Florida television stations. About a dozen other out-of-state programs have followed their lead. This is the type of thing that I wish the CU Athletic Department had the funds to do. Produce a 1st class coach's show and air it in California, Texas, Ohio, Louisiana, Arizona and Hawaii for starters. Heck, we don't even have one airing in Colorado except for on the radio and internet.

Hawkins should call into the show at the Mac Brown estate while pearched atop one of Mac's dozen gold plated crappers with his pants around his 3 dollar tube socks.

I wonder how many of Mack Brown's sh!tter vision TV screens are equiped with x-box?

Is Erin Hogan still on the air? If he interviews Hawk, that'd be a real meeting of the minds. Probably eight minutes of talk with neither party actually saying anything.

and probably gives Barking Carnival some good material....glass half full, ya know?

A backhanded compliment that could be stretched to "glass half full" status with some imagination.

Somebody get a mop, the glass is overflowing.

Yeah, he is, but he is on in the morning with Dan Neil (former Broncos OL for those who don't remember) so he won't be doing the interview.

Hawk will be on with the jackasses on "The Afternoon Drive" - Jeff and Chad. Dudes who, IMO, know jack and squat about sports and are just there for entertainment value much like when Mike Evans and Sandy Clough were together on KFAN back in the day.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Hawk will outfox them with his high level Zen talk. Then again, we'll see....

Regardless of how we feel about him he is still our coach for at least another season. If he can bring exposure to the program in Texas then he has my full support, there is plenty of talent in Texas to go around.

Agreed - I don't see how this is a negative. If Hawkins wasn't on and they instead had Pelini, we'd be bitching about how Nebraska is getting more exposure in Texas than we were & why wouldn't Hawkins be trying to get on the radio as much as possible in recruiting rich areas?

Good luck with your recruiting trip, Dan. With Mack Brown in Pasadena, you are now the best active B12 coach in Austin!
It's a balzy move to play in UT's back yard when all the mutant cows are out of town.

Sure hope they don't rib you hard about losing DS or make fun of the size of your scoreboard.

+1

Regardless of my feelings about this person as HC, I credit him for getting out there and battling on the recruiting front. I just pray he thinks before he opens his pie hole.

During football season the buffalo stampede is a defacto coaches show. Its on FSN. I actually think it is a pretty good one as far as those things tend to go. I haven't watched in a year or so, because I can not stand hawkspeak when we are loosing, but the show was pretty good when we won a couple.

Sorry guys - listened to it on the way home (4 CST) and just got tot he computer (Ms. NB96 was on.)
Anyway, not a whole lot to be said. A lot of rah-rah for UT (of course) and a lot of typical Hawklish. Even said that all UT has to do is get the "little things right" and they would win the game. aik called it as Aaron Hogan WAS on and conducted the interview so it truly was about 8 minutes of nothing.

Some of the low-high, high-lowlights:
Opening - "Hey coach! You getting excited? (clearly meaning for the game) Hawk: "Well, you know recruiting really has us going!"

"Hey, coach between you and Nebraska, you guys had the best defense against Texas all year, what weaknesses did you see?" Hawk: "WEAKNESSES?!? Texas really has no weaknesses. Just a matter of play here or there and we had a good showing against them."

Hogan and Dan Neil lauded Hawk for keeping his job saying he's good for the Big 12 North and the Big 12 overall becuase he's getting it done the "right way." They (Austin talking heads) were very happy that he was retained. (Insert true meaning here.)

Other than that, for the most part a pretty "blah" interview. He did say "little things" like 4-5 times, mentioned something about "conflama that surrounds the kids," (general quote nothing specific) and he got into his Zen no peaks or valleys thing once too when asked how to keep players focused on a big game.

In all, no embarrassment to us (CU) and no "completely burned to the ground" doozies., and no other interesting quotes or recruiting insights (which of course he can't talk about)

Overall Grade: C-. Which is better than the series of FAILS he had at the end of the year:huh:.

I'll watch the website tomorrow and post a link of the interview if they put one up. Looks like they will. :blah:

I'm embarassed to think I was considering a Neg rep or Fail reply when this thread was heading towards a dud.

Don't be, I was late in posting the summary. Got home and the missus was surfing fb relating to me that apparently there's some FB thing going on today where they're asking people to post the color of the underwear or something. Then I said we needed wings for the game tonight which then turned into orders to order them NOW b/c predictions were wing places were going to do 3x more biz tonight than on the Super Bowl. So had to order, send her off to pick them up (and she's back!), etc. etc.

Sorry again, and hopefully one of the last times I ever say this....HOOK 'EM HORNS!
