Mangino, then Leach, now Leavitt. Interesting year for football coaches.

Did anyone here ever have something like this happen on the football field? The worst thing that ever happened to me is my coach grabbed my facemask and tugged it and told me to pull my head out of my ass.

My HS football coach used to slap us in the side of the helmet, hard, and that doesn't feel to good. It also makes your ears ring for an hour or so. If you argued or got into it with a teammate at practice, we had to box each other in front of the team. He pulled face masks to line you up in the right spots. Boy do I miss those days. :boxing:

Grabbing by the facemask, literal kicks to the fanny and hitting the back of your helmet with a nickel were common at both HS's I played at. I even saw a player grabbed by the facemask and slung to the ground by a coach. Either both my HS coaches were the devil or it's pretty common. If kids are getting bent about this now, they're kind of sissies IMO. I would have something to say to the coach if it were my boy, but I wouldn't be angling for anybody's job. If it really was over the line, I'd probably respond in kind to the coach myself....

That facemask grab thing is right out on the high school level...I do enjoy the occassional whistle whip where I smack my whistle on their helmet...that rings a bit and gets their attention.

Whistle whip is classic. Always an attention getter.

I remember doing that when I played pee wee football. Take off the chin strap and whack someone on the helmet. Rings the ears like hell.

Maybe Hawk is on his way to getting fired if he keeps patting his players on the ass, after they f***-up.

I was a shot and disc thrower but our coach would walk around with a big ring of keys on a leash. If we weren't paying attention or goofing off he would starting swinging it. Eventually if you still weren't paying attention. It would "slip" and magically end up in your crotch.

You only needed it to happen once before you learned.

It became a joking/funny thing and we never even thought about turning him in for it. He also happened to be our O-Line coach. I never played though even though he asked every year. I'm not sure if he did the same things on the football field.

Back in the rough and tumble 1980's we called it being coaching up. :yell:

:ditto: I'm a fan of a little intimidation in coaching. I was a camp counselor for a while and naturally I was bigger than all the kids. They would definitely listen when I spoke just because I was 6'4" and had a beard. Everyone always remarked how well behaved my campers were. We joked around a lot also though too. There is much more of a respect factor when there is a little friendly intimidation.

Yeah. My dad coached my grade school team. He played with Doak Walker and Bobby Layne. I was a little twit back then. (Not now though. I grew out of twittness, ****ers!) Anyway, I ****ed up and dad bitch slapped me upside the head. Almost knocked my ass out.

My old track coach would just make us run till we puked - damn should have sued the bastard!

This country is getting soft.. Eventually all the football coaches will be a bunch of soft Dan Hawkins types.

Smack away guys but America is gettin pussified. ****in pc **** and huggin it out crap is disgusting. My generation was a you run your mouth you get your ass handed to you period. Then of course there are people like Rino that if you ever smoked him in the face for being a dick he would run like a "nancy" and press charges. In the end accountability has gone to ****.

Also would like to add that Hawk maybe able to poach a fack load of these Nancy boys who figure the scholarship they got came with out sacrifice and effort.

My wrestling coach had me running auditorium stairs with my goof-off buddy on my back. Ah, the good old days...

Obviously that technique didn't work. You're probably the reason it's frowned upon these days.
