Anyone going to the recruiting Luncheon?

Sorry, but sitting through an hour of Hawkins bullsh!t would be more than I could handle. I used to go to these things religiously, but it's just not a priority for me anymore. Maybe I'll start going again when we get a new coach.

I don't think $50 is cheaper.... Will probably go but I must say that even in 2007 (DS class), it wasn't that good. It's a hassle to get to and park at, and then they just don't do enough on the players. It's the first time the coaches can actually speak about the players and they say stuff like "good kid, right kind of guy, good family"....

I want to hear about the drama of the last N months. Who we went up against. What is the kid like. Why did you recruit him vs. others? They could make this a lot more interesting. This is the first (and probably last day) the coaches can open up and talk about these kids and I'd like to hear them talk them up. Not that I want Lane Kiffen cheerleading BS though. Fine line I guess.

I swore after the '07 and '08 years I wouldn't go. I missed '09 (but would have probably gone if I didn't have to travel that week).....

I have been to the last 10 or 12. I can tell you they have not been as good since Hawk took over. There have been good moments like when coach Mac speaks, but overall a big drop vs when Gary did them. I have had enough of Hawk. I will be at the games next year, but will not go to any events to hear him talk.

I've never been to one, and I'm not likely to start with the current regime.

I'm not going this year. The first one I went to was right after Hawkins was hired. I thought it was good - Hawkins gave comments about each recruit and took questions from the audience. The next year the format had changed - instead of Hawkins narrating the highlights of each recruit they had a canned voice over by Mark Johnson (the radio announcer) and no questions from the audience. Also that 2nd year alot of time was spent on fund raising (auctioning off items). Last year they raised the price, cut out the auction part, but still did not have Hawkins narrating the recruit highlights.

If the Buffs had a new head coach, I'd be there, but with Hawkins again I expect they'll limit the interaction with the crowd and not have him talk about each recruit.

The one thing I did enjoy when going to the lunches was the people I met. One year I sat next to a quarterback from CU from the late 50's, and another year a basketball player who played for Sox in the 60's. Interesting to hear their perspectives and stories from their playing days.

You bring up a good point - this years event is bound to be very un-entertaining. Hawks comments will be restricted and I seriously doubt there will be any interaction between him and the audience.

I've always wanted to go, but work always got in the way. I actually could swing it this year, but I'd rather work....

Yeah, maybe. But usually the kind of folks who go to these things are not the types who get up and yell in a public forum. It would be very interesting to see if anybody creates a stir at the luncheon, though.

Maybe we can do another Blue-out.:cool:
