Man, it pisses me off

So, Munchie decommits the night before signing day and says that, while he's still considering CU, he's worried about Hawkins' situation.

You've got to be kidding me. Hawk's record and job security have been in front of the Munch Man for quite some time now (as have been the relative quality of academics at CU, Cinncy and Arizona, not that that matters much). It comes to him in a flash, yesterday, that maybe he should pull his commitment from CU? Not much point to it all, but at least it keeps the calls from the Rivals guy coming.....

Please. This process makes me sick. It turns 18 year old kids into prima dona's who manipulate universities and the men who represent them. It's no small wonder that so many of these kids end up in trouble, out of programs and without degrees. The exaggerated sense of self-importance, and lack of humility, is mind-bending.

I can't wait to watch ol' Munch at his "press conference" tomorrow, playing the shell game with school hats. He's obviously not going to end up with a CU lid on his head, but even if he does, this whole thing makes me want to puke.
 
It's definitely frustrating sometimes, but in all fairness this a 2 way street. The kids get a lot of attention from coaches, schools, fans, recruiting services, websites, etc. If they get a big head, it's hard to blame them. Plus they are treated as a commodity as well. Basically, it's "hate the game, not the player".

Regarding Munchie, I won't consider it over until he inks with someone else. I understand his wavering, though. QBs are heavily influenced by coaching change, perhaps more so than any other position. Cincy is an attractive spot to play football right now, but I'm highly doubtful he'll get a quality education if he goes there. Hopefully, he'll end up in the black & gold.
 
You're right, Cree, it's the game, not the guy. It's even odds that Munchie is a good kid. And, you're right that a lot of parties have their hands in this mess (including those of us who follow it so closely and ascribe so much importance to it). But, ultimately, it's the kid who choses whether to be manipulative and less than forthright, and it's the kid who decides whether to milk it for all it's worth or not.

I don't have any problem with kids who change their minds. There are a million legitimate reasons for doing that, especially with schools like CU that are going through some turmoil. I think Danny Spond is a good example of a kid who changed his mind, stayed above board about it, and announced his ultimate decision without turning the whole thing into a soap opera. I respect that, even though I was disappointed with the outcome.

The sad thing is that for some of these kids, like D Scott, the shell game press conference may be the high water mark of their career.

And, like you and the rest of Buff Nation, I'll be thrilled if Munchie ends up choosing CU (if for no other reason, he's got a great name).
 
The munch-master was flattered with the new offer - maybe he sees it as a better opportunity, and he's 18 - he came up with an answer to a reporter's question. No big deal.
 
Or, he's a kid under a lot of pressure and didn't want to come out and say he preferred Cincinati to Colorado. At any rate, it was obvious he was a Colorado commit until something better came along, and in his mind it did. And you know what, I can't blame him. Jones produced NFL QB at CMU of all schools, and Cincy, well, has won a whole hell of a lot more than we have in the last 4 years. It's obvious it was about the football for Munchie, and right now, with what we know, he made theright call.
