I think most would agree that we have two fine coaches in Hawkins and Bzdelik, but which one gets their teams to the promised land more quickly? Hawkins to a BCS game or Bzdelik to the NCAA Tourney?

Perhaps this question was asked prior to my arrival...

Of course, you have to give Bzdelik an extra season just to make it fair. Honestly, I think both coaches will reach those intermediate goals.

Hawkins has certainly made visible strides toward improvement; I just don't think the improvements of Bzdelik are quite as obvious. Next year should show a lot in both cases. Both are headed in the right direction I think.

I wanna change my vote... it's a LOT easier to get into the NCAA tournament than it is to get to a BCS bowl... I think Bz can bring the tournament first. It would be a better comparison if you compared the Tourny and a New Years day bowl or orhter top tier bowls rather than just limiting it to the BCS

That was my thinking also. A LOT more teams get into the NCAA BB tournament than get into the handful of BCS bowl games.

I still think that it is more likely that CU makes it to a BCS more rapidly than an NCAA Tourney bid. The football team, regardless what you thought of Barnett, had more on the shelf than did the basketball team when each new coach took over.

Sure, there are only 10 teams in the BCS and 65 in the Tourney, but about half of those are minor programs the other half are from BCS conferences. Right now, 30 teams from BCS conferences are expected to play in the Tourny, so I guess it would be 3 times more likely to reach the NCAAs than a BCS bowl. But given the current state of B12 Basketball, who would we beat out for a tourney bid? A Tourny bid is hard for me to imagine within the next two-three years, on the other hand I think the 2009 football season has a great deal of potential.

I do agree that perhaps I should have said a "Tourney victory" when I posed the original question.

This might belong on the BBall boards, but I believe that we're dancing within the next couple of years in March. I'm dead serious - barring the unforeseen of course, like Coach leaving for another job.

I think we're BCS bound the year after this next one. :smile2: of course, that's optimistic thinking.

I see Hawk in a BCS Bowl in '09 and Bz in the tourney in '10. Good to have both here at CU!

It's easier to turn around a basketball program than it is a football program. All you need is one or two really good players and you're in the NCAA tournament. The BCS is another story. Only 10 teams go to BCS bowls, compared to 65 teams in the NCAA tournament.

For these reasons, I chose the Bz to the NCAA's option. I have all the faith in the world in Hawk, but his is a far more difficult task.

:yeahthat:

my reasoning as well. i want the best for all of the programs at CU! :gobuffs:

Good point. You can have a very good season with only 2 or 3 losses in football and still not make it to a BCS bowl. This was a tough question so I took the copout and voted for a tie, and I think that year will be in '09.

EDIT: When I said '09, I really meant 2 seasons from now, so '09 for football and the '09-'10 season for b-ball.

It's much easier to get to the Big Dance than the BCS. All you really need is one stud freshman and you're in.

:bump:
I know, I am dragging out ancient history but...

Given the interesting confluence of signing day for football with the exceptional effort of the basketball team against Kansas (and the good feeling of improvement) I thought of this poll.

Kind of interesting the voting and the confidence we had in the Hawk... shoot, in Bz and his basketball team. Right now Bz looks well ahead of Hawk for sure.

I would post the same poll again if I wasn't already sure of the outcome.

Much tougher to make a BCS bowl. Most years, you have to be #1 in the Big 12 to make it. In basketball, you just have to finish in the top half of the conference and you're likely in the NCAA Tourney.

Bz has a somewhat realistic shot of making the NCAA tourney, eventually. Hawkins, however, has virtually 0 shot of making it to a BCS bowl.

We have two fine coaches? Hawk has shown improvement? It's easier to make the ncaa than a BCS bowl.

:wow:...crazniess..I'd change my vote in a heartbeat right now....think the Football team has a very slim shot at a bowl next year, while I firmly believe the BBall team will be tourney bound next year (especially if we sign the 7' 1" Juco kid!)

Oh how things can change fast!

When this poll was made, Colorado had just come off a bowl season with big wins over Oklahoma and Nebraska. We had just landed the #15 ranked recruiting class in the country and the program looked to have great momentum of turning the corner. I was so pumped back then, a far cry from what I feel now.

CU basketball is looking good!

i just don't understand all the confidence in bzdelik. just like i didn't understand all the confidence in hawkins back then. the basketball team is losing almost every close game they are in. just like they've done every year under bzdelik except the first. but at the same time i don't care about basketball so it doesn't really matter to me if bzdelik is successful or not.

but what the hell was up with that ou game? we won that game by pounding the ball down their throat and playing tough defense. how come we completely abandoned that philosophy right after that game? i will never understand that
