I'm watching the CU Texas wbb game. This is ridiculous. Our offense is having Spears or Jeffery dribble the ball for 25 second, with everybody else standing around watching. Then a shot is taken with 2 or 1 seconds left on the shot clock - if the ball hasn't been turned over already. I believe this team is talented. Jeffery is good, and so is Spears. With a new coach, this team could be decent.

Like I have stated before, there IS talent on this team. She should be gone at the end of the year, she 's awful.

i agree. If no post season this year then she HAS TO GO! There has been ZERO improvement since she's been here.

So KMM in a couple of months should be gone.
If no post season for football then Hawkins should be gone.
Same goes for Bz after next season.

I would also consider Bohn being fired as well if it goes down this way but he does seem to bring in the money. I am still up in the air on him.

i agree. it's not like she came her and inherited nothing. That program went to the elite eight three times under Ceal. Speaking of Ceal, I wouldn't be opposed to her coming back. It must be tough for her to watch the program she built crumble

the current coach did not inherit an elite eight team. this is a little overstated on your part. Ceal was a great coach, but "K-Mac" didn't inherit a ton of talent. whatever she has or hasn't done is a different story.

Ceal had a lot of highly recruited players leave the program in the last years. and some of the reasons stated are not that pretty...speaking as a friend of one of the top recruits of the later Barry era.

maybe Coach Mac will come back too and we can run the option?

Ceal was definitely slipping at the end and she knew it was time for her to move onto the next stage in her life.

But the WBB program has been a consistent winner since the late 70s. Peaked in the mid-90s, but was still damn good into the 2000s. KMM's had one of the worst, if not the worst, 4-year run in the program's history. And I could deal with that if I saw reason to believe she was a good coach. But this team rarely maintains discipline on its defensive rotations beyond the first shift. The offense is always degenerating into 1 on 1 moves or jacking 3 pointers, which leads to long stretches without scoring a basket. The team doesn't maintain intensity on the road and lately hasn't even been competitive at home.

Fortunately, KMM has recruited pretty well and has a good class already signed during the early period for 2010-2011. Add in the groundbreaking on the practice facility this April and the likelihood of a fast start to next season with a talented, veteran team... and our new WBB coach should be able to get this thing rolling in a hurry next fall both in recruiting and in the win column. With a good coaching staff, this is a Top 25 team next season .

KMM needs to be replaced at the end of the season. She is not a good coach.

I don't think she gets replaced. Women's basketball is not a revenue sport. They can be terrible and it doesn't impact the bottom line. The only two coaches at CU that have real performance needs are Hawkins and Bzdelik. K-Mac is safe until her contract expires, at which time she'll be allowed to leave.

Normally I'd agree with you, but this has been speculated on since last year and Bohn had an escape written into her contract extension:

I blame Bohn. When Barry decided to move into administration, CU formed a coaching search committee led by Jack Lengyel to replace her (the last true coaching search performed at CU). They came up with Kevin Borseth who had great credentials. Borseth flies out to Boulder with his wife to be introduced as the new WBB coach. That also happens to be Bohn's first day on the job - Borseth goes meets with Bohn for an hour and comes out and says the job is not for him ( Bohn basically told him he was not his guy) so then Mike Bohn does his typical thing with his one man search and comes up with KMAC. Her credentials were very mediocre and she did not even make the short list when the search committee was looking - they had identified several good candidates the first time around none of which Bohn even looked at for the job. Borseth later took the Michigan WBB job and is rebuilding their program (has a shot at the NCAA this year).

I really think Bohn is a style not substance guy when he hires people. I DO NOT want Mike Bohn hiring any more coaches for CU. Put in a fund raising PR role but I do not believe he has a total administrative grasp.

KMac is a nice person but her coaching is lacking.

Unfortunately we are getting what we CAN pay for. KMM's salary is around $330,000 while the average in the Big 12 is around $650,000. I found this article about Missouri's Women's Basketball and how it has become a shell of a once proud program. It is a long article but it is worth reading because the parallels are there (CU is mentioned in the same boat) The Big 12 is not the Big 8 and the dynamics have changed. Sadly, I don't think CU can catch up.

BNG - good insight, I did not know that story. My opinion on Bohn is still out. Don't know enough about the WBB program to comment on the situation. I don't fault him for the hires of Bz and Hawk. They were both considered great, if not the best hires at the time. You are right about Bohn's fund raising / PR ability being his strength but I don't think he has done CU wrong with his hires.

I fault Bohn because he is suppose to vet those candidates. It is okay for fans to say - this guy would be great or that guy would be great but it is the job of the AD/search committee to really get underneath the hood and find out if this is the right person for the job. In each case Bohn has only had one candidate for the job. He had a whole year to fill the MBB position and had a single candidate. Bohn is paid a lot of money to make those decisions and he has an absolute horrid record over his career in hiring. It is time for him to realize that he is not good at it.

I think this would be true had Kathy not interviewed with UCLA a couple years ago. I think that has burned some bridges between her and administration. I would be shocked if she wasn't fired - but thats what I said about Hawk.

sooner or later, somebody is going to have to hold bohn accountable for these hires...

For Men's Basketball and Football - absolutely. I don't see a groundswell of upsetness over the performance (or lack thereof) of our ladies basketball tream.

Some of you guys talk about the womens team like its not important to CU or the well being of the Athletic Dept. I beg to differ. CU has actually sold out the CEC for womens games in the past. When they were consistantly in the top 25 you could get 3,000 to 5,000 regularly for their games. At minimum, the womens BB program could pay for itself. Then profits from Football and Mens BBall could go to other things such as facilities.

The potential is there for CU to make money or break even on the womens program. We just need a modern day Ceal to get them back on track. KMM is NOT the answer and she needs to go at the end of this season.

Yep. I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about, but I worked with a guy who's daughter took a recruiting trip to CU in those years and said there is no way she would have considered coming here.

Wasn't it last year when there was a story out about a kid that was promised a scholarship, left her school, came to Boulder, and was told to hit the road? There have been other unseemly stories about K-Mac that never seem to cause her any problems. Based on that, I still think she's safe until her contract expires. Does anybody know when her contract expires?

This link is to an article about KMM's contract. As I read it, her sontract expires in 2013 but sounds like she can be re-assigned to another job after this season and only owed her base salary for next year. I would think that, if you want to be a coach, re-assigning to another job would encourage you to resign and go elsewhere.
