Check out the 1st & 5th articles. If Texass joins the Big 10, do the Buffs decide to stay put?

I'm having a good riddance day, now that Tim "the hack" Griffin is no longer with es pee in.

Texas (and maybe a couple other teams) to the Big 10 = CU leaving for the Pac 10 a near certainty IMO.

Now why on earth would Texas move to the big ten? I just don't see that happening. I would think CU to the MWC is a more likely scenario.

It begs the question, if this does become a reality (CU, Texass, Mizzu, and one other school jumping ship) within the next several years, what becomes of the B12?

**** that.

I just don't see Texas joining a northern midwest confrence. And what about their huge rivalries with Oklahoma and Texas A&M?

I would think Missouri, Iowa st and Nebraska would be better candidates for the Big 10

Definitely not Iowa State. Travel proximity doesn't mean much these days. It's all about whether the institution adds revenue and the biggest driver of that is television.

Nebraska may be additive because of them being a traditional powerhouse and you may get some national interest, but the tv sets you add from them for the Big 10 network are not significant. Still not a great partner.

Kansas is probably better than Nebraska, but Missouri gives you most of the Kansas City market anyway since most of the city's population and industry is on the Missouri side of the river.

Frankly, I think that the Big 10 would consider going to 14 if it meant they got UT, TAMU and Mizzou. That would pretty much break the Big 12. CU would leave for the Pac-12 along with Utah from the MWC. But I think Texas ultimately says "no" and it probably shakes out as follows:

New Big 10 (12):
Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa & Missouri

New Pac 12:
Arizona, Arizona State, USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Utah & Colorado

New Big 12:
Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston & TCU

New MWC:
Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, BYU, UNLV, San Diego State, Wyoming, Fresno State, Nevada & Boise State (could go to 12 with 2 more WAC schools)

The big wildcards are if the Big 10 and/or Pac 10 decide to go to 14 instead of 12. Big 10 could add Texas/Texas A&M to the mix in that scenario or Texas/Oklahoma or decide to expand east. The Pac, I would assume, would take New Mexico and UNLV to give it the Albuquerque and Las Vegas markets to completely wrap up every western media market that matters. There was also the "pie in the sky" Pac dream previously posted on this site that would have the conference dropping Washington State and then adding CU, UT, TAMU, Utah & OU to go to a 14 team western superconference.

I can see the MWC adding Fresno State and another school to get to 12, not sure who the +1 would be.

Can we just sell Texas to Mexico to help pay down the deficit? Maybe we can get 1 trillion.

Edit- the whole state not just the school.

The Big 10 and Pac 10 are only interested in schools with good academics as well. That rules out all of the Big XII except CU, UT, Misery, and maybe aggy.

Texas doesn't ever seem interested in even leaving their state for OOC games, I can't see them joining a conference where that much travel will be required.

Is there real talk of teams possibly moving or is all this just an off season fakeroversy by desperately bored CFB interdweebs and sports writers?

Big 10 is going to add another team.

Pac 10 has announced they are looking into expansion.

This isn't the normal offseason chatter. I believe we're about to see changes like we haven't witnessed since the early to mid 1990s when the Big East formed for football, Penn State joined the Big 10, Florida State joined the ACC, Arkansas joined the SEC and the Big 12 was created.

This. Texas is used to dominating every conference they have ever been a part of, first the SWC, and now the Big 12. Going to the Big 10 with football giants like Ohio State and Michigan who dominate that conference would undoubtedly not sit well with Texas. They have to be the star of the show and I don't think that will happen in any current major conference except for the Big 12.

i don't see Texas traveling that much to conference change. they like to look at themselves in the mirror too much like Patrick Bateman and talk about how great they are at the quick stop on the interstate.

OU fan is obnoxious but they are proud of what they have accomplished, UT fan acts like you should stand up and cheer for them while they masturbate. and you'd be lucky to get the invite to do it.

Tim Griffin obviously has inside info on this and is becoming the Big 10 beat writer for ESPN.

I wholeheartedly agree. Something is up. This talk is going above and beyond the typical offseason "Wouldn't it be cool if this school moved to this league?" conversations. Something is happening behind the scenes. I don't know what, but I think by the end of 2010 we'll have a great idea where CU is going to be and where some others might be as well.

Why on earth would Texas want to leave the Big 12?

Makes absolutely no sense.

Texas OWNS the Big 12. Why would they want to leave that arrangement to go to the likes of the Big 10, where they would have to compete with Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc.?

Texas doesn't need the conference revenue - their AD received $120 MILLION in revenue last year. The next closest Big 12 school (Ok. State) was almost $40 MILLION away. Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State all have more revenue than Ok. State.

While he is a Nub, I still respect Tom Osborne's place in the college football world, and here is what he says

“It’ll be interesting to see,” Osborne said. “It isn’t something I stay up at night worrying about. Everybody’s aware there may be some realignment. Nobody knows quite what’s going to happen. I’m sure Dan Beebe and others in the Big 12 are looking at this, too.”

It doesn't make sense, because it is about DOLLARS. Yes, Texas "owns" the Big 12. Would you rather "own" a $10 million a year stake in a business or be partners and get a $20 million stake?

Long term interests are at stake here, and what does the rest of the Big 12 provide Texas? Do they increase the exposure of their university by aligning with Kansas State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Baylor, and Texas Tech?

Compare that to the Pac Ten, SEC, or Big Ten; it is the same reasoning we've all addressed as to why the Pac Ten is generally more attractive to us.

While Texas might not "need" the conference revenue, this is a rich-get-richer environment. They probably feel like the rest of the Big 12 is riding their coat-tails (they might be right) and they would rather be in a bigger arena.
